Prior to his first professional work, Tynion was a student of Scott Snyder's at Sarah Lawrence College. A few years later, he worked as for Vertigo as Fables editor Shelly Bond's intern. In late 2011, with DC deciding to give Batman (written by Snyder) a back up feature, Tynion was brought in by request of Snyder to script the back ups he had plotted. Tynion would later do the same with the Batman Annual #1, which was also co-plotted by Snyder. Beginning in September 2012, with DC's 0 issue month for the New 52, Tynion will be writing Talon, with art by Guillem March. In early 2013 it was announced that he'd take over writing duties for Red Hood and the Outlaws in April.
Tynion is also currently one of the writers in a rotating team in the weekly Batman Eternal series.
Listen Tynion is out here killing the comic book game! This was exceptional. I had absolutely no idea where the story was going. And when that reveal happened I was completely blown away. See Tynion’s writing always leaves you guessing. There are so many directions that he can take stories in with most of them surprising the hell out of you. This was no different. I don’t want to say too much about what it’s about because it’ll take away the thrill of reading it but let me tell you...ITS AMAZING! I cannot wait to pick up the next issue. The artwork isn’t what I traditional love in terms of how fluid it was BUT it worked perfectly for this story. This is going to be a hit! I promise you it will be!
Wow! This is shockingly good. Perfect build up and well-timed reveals. Agree with others. Go in as blind as possible. I thought this would be good, but it is so much better.
The Nice House on the Lake opens with a startling reveal, showing the fire and destruction that's waiting for these folks as Ryan Cane (aka “The Artist”) sets the stage. This not only gets right into the story but also puts us on edge throughout the entire issue. How could things possibly go from this idyllic estate in the woods to this dystopian setup that Ryan is sporting?

A group of acquaintances are invited to a mansion on a lake in Wisconsin to relax, unwind, and enjoy the Summer. There is no civilization within miles of the location. The vacation is just getting started when news breaks of a catastrophe in the outside world.
I hadn't even heard of this book before it release, but then I saw one of my favorite artists (Francesco Francavilla) released a variant so I decided to place an order for it. Then all of a sudden I saw this book being talked about everyone. The hype was getting to me but I had to wait for my copy to deliver. It just came in today and WOW! Talk about living up the hype. I was instantly intrigued and can't wait to eventually read the collected edition. I just really hope the book can keeps it momentum and tell an intriguiging and mysterious story.
After thinking I had lost access to this book (didn't download my arc in time) I recently found it on my ipad so I'm here with a review!
The Nice House on the Lake is a short horror graphic novel series about this group of "friends" who are brought together to live in this nice house on a lake by a mutual friend they all share. After getting there he tells them the rest of the world is gone and some weird things start happening .
I was really excited to try this horror/scifi graphic novel. I saw the art was amazing and was so excited to get super creeped out. Unfortunately I was let down in almost all areas.
The story was boring and introduced its characters back to back, leaving no time for any of them to develop beyond their title in this house. Along with the fast paced nature, the story jumps in time leaving me with a feeling of loss and confusion. Like I said I was drawn in by the art, but the page to page style wasn't my personal favorite and left it feeling like it had no personality. The coloring and line art were things I could find in any other graphic novel, and did not lead to a better understanding of the story. Along with that there were pages of text, which took too long to read for a graphic novel.
The one good thing I can say about this graphic novel is the one shot pages were phenomenal!
Thanks to Netgalley and DC comics for giving me a copy of this graphic novel in exchange for an honest review!
To be honest, I'm not loving it so far. James Tynion's work is hit or miss for me. This isn't a miss, but it's not really a hit, either. I'll wait and see how the second issue is, but right now, I'm not all that crazy about this. For one thing, there are way too many characters (in my opinion), which means that I'm probably never going to remember who is who, and for another, I'm not a fan of sexual humor. It makes me cringe.
I'm gonna give the second issue a try and see how I feel before writing a proper review.
That was good, and weird, but in a good way. i didn't expect it to got there and I'm a bit disappointed about the difference of style between the art cover and the comic art, the cover was amazing, the inside was also good but very different and I hate when they do that. Anyway, fun, intriguing and I will definitely be on board for a while!
4.25 Stars. Wow, James Tynion is on fire, he's been putting out some great stories lately and this is no exception. I think this will turn out to be one of the most popular series of the year, everybody loves a great creepy story.
