The Four Elements of Eltotsira. Water. Fire. Earth. Air.
For many years, stories and rumours have spoken of those with the Power. Some say it is a myth. Some say it is real. No one with it is ever around to tell their side of the story-they are reported to the authorities and erased from their lives as soon as they start to show the signs.
When seventeen-year-old Brooke Anders starts to show signs of her own Power, she and her brother, Owen, are forced to question everything they thought they knew. Now, the siblings are faced with a daunting turn Brooke over to the authorities? Or go on the run, putting their lives on the line to escape?
Seven years ago, Dawson Rider was ripped from his life and family for having the Power. He was called a monster and forced into a cell. Now, at age seventeen, he has recently escaped from prison, along with his best-and only-friend, Amber Punder. Both are finally free, but with the authorities hot on their trail, will they be able to keep it this way? Or will they be forced to find a new home somewhere else?
TL:DR; pick up this book! You need it! _________________
Last year I read 100 books. By the end of the year I was completely burnt out and didn't want to read. Cut to April 25th of this year. I've just put my daughter down for her nap and decide "maybe a new series is what I need." Grabbed Return of Power and... WOOOOOW. Pulled in right away and read the first 200 pages while my daughter napped. I always give books until page 50 to rope me in... I didn't even remember I was still reading until page 75.
The characters are fun, and the multiple points of view make it so engaging. It is action PACKED so no getting lazy and skimming sections: you'll miss too much!
Made my husband watch our kid so I could finish it. I needed to know how it ended! Then the CLIFFHANGER of aaaaalllll cliffhangers. I get it. It literally says "Book One" on the cover.... but now knowing I have to wait?!?!?!
This book might be the one to get me out of a reading slump... but I'm gonna need book 2 like... yeaterday. Too soon? I'll wait till tomorrow then 😌
For her first book, CJ did amazing!!! I don't normally go for fantasy, but I read this book in one sitting. I loved the Hunger Games X Powers thing that she did. I loved and hated Cobb. I pulled some of my comments from when I was reading for you: "This man is a quack" "Cobb deffo always spits when he talks" "if he was alive he'd deffo be a serial killer" "he needs to be chained up"
I also really loved all the dynamics within the characters, and the plot itself was amazing too.
I wish you could've seen the utter chaos my texts where giving at the end of the book, but you should read it to see why.
This is an excellent book by Calgary author, CJ Arran.
Return Of Power is the first novel in Arran’s Fantasy trilogy about . . . power. Young women and men born in the Indicator have unnatural abilities, shaped by the Elements, which makes them targets for imprisonment by adults who’ve fought their way to the top of society’s dystopian-esque hierarchy. The story is told in four parts through the MCs alternating POVs: Brooke, Owen, Dawson, and Amber have to overcome multiple murderous encounters with Commander Cobb as they struggle to grow into their burgeoning strength.
If you like Fantasy fiction, this novel includes every beloved trope: Quests for Freedom, a Mad Militant, Good vs Evil, and Battles—galore! Arran’s dialogue is modern and relatable, and the immediacy of her prose moves the action-packed plot. And our author doesn’t shy away from vivid descriptions, so be ready for blood, bone, and high-stakes death.
What a great debut novel from CJ Arran! It had me hooked right from the start. The action was non stop and the plot was riveting but where CJ really shines is with her characters. Each one was so well crafted. I was invested in each of their stories, and I can’t wait to see where the next book takes them!
Amazing writing and loved all the different characters and their personalities. Action packed and keeps you intrigued the entire time. Go support return of power, it is amazing!!!
Exciting adventure with a vibrant cast of characters. I loved all the twists and turns this story had for me. I enjoyed it very much and am eagerly awaiting the next instalment of this trilogy.
Great writing, great characters (but dawson is #1), great plot, great everything. I NEED the second one immediately. Everyone should go read it, it’s slay and a half
