About the author

Vincent Virga has been called "America's foremost picture editor." He has researched, edited, and designed picture sections for more than 150 books, including Eyes of the Nation: A Visual History of the United States and the full-length photo essay The Eighties: Images of America. a wide variety of maps, unfortunately most of them are too small to read

For each map, the year produced and name of the map maker are given, but I'd also like to know the size of the original map.

several interesting tidbits about the state's history

Nicely stated summaries re shifting sources of revenue (gold mining, silver mining, railroads, ...)
