Got this book in my Romance Reveal box.
It was cute, but some things didn't make sense to me at all.
Chapter 19, the first sex scene with Ford and Cait seems randomly thrown in, it's not in the right place at all. He calls and says he's going to her place for breakfast, then all of a sudden they're having sex. Yet chapter 20 starts off with him arriving to her house for breakfast. How has no one else caught this??
The "machine" part at the beginning I guess gives us some background for the Belladonna society, but it still doesn't match. I understand this is supposed to be a series so I guess you find out more later, but it feels disjointed.
There's obvious foreshadowing that Cait's new friend is going to be a target for the serial killer, but it's also left wide open.
The relationship with Cait and Ford is cute, I met my husband in a similar manner with no plans of anything and then wham, he's everything. 💕
I could deal with him calling her "darlin" a little less though...

This was an OK book. Nothing super special, I don't really feel like much happened until the last 50 pages or so.
It starts off with a middle aged woman, Cait, going about her life now realizing she can free herself from her cheating husband as her children are grown and flown. As she is figuring out how her new life, we switch over to the other main character, Ford. He's a big wig homicide detective who is going after a serial killer. The characters first cross paths in the gym, and eventually they exchange numbers and start flirting. Cait joins this women's only society (essentially an old boys club but for women) and makes some new friends. Her husband causes issues so Ford comes over to stay. The story continues on from there and some important stuff happens.
First, I love the relationship between Ford and Cait. Its easy going and they just work well for each other. The dynamic between the two of leaning on each other but still being independent is something to strive for. However, I felt like nothing of substance, at least for the plot's sake, really happened until the end of the book. The first 200 or so pages was just general everyday life stuff. They didn't really have any relationship drama (not complaining there), no major events that changed the course of the plot happened, and all around kind of read like a blog. I feel like she could have added some events to make what happened at the end with Ben (the horrid husband) seem more dramatic rather than coming out of left field. I also would have loved more about Ford's job and the serial killer, I feel like that could have played a bigger role into the plot and story. It felt more like some random added detail that could have been just a bunch of different murders and would have had the same effect on the plot.
All in all a decent book that was an easy read but not something worth reading a second time.

A great love story wrapped in a Mystery
This story is a page-turner! The main characters, Cait and Ford, are seemingly people from two different worlds - he is a homicide detective, and she is a posh high-class lady. However, they have one thing in common - their hearts are open, and they both want to make a positive difference in the lives of people they love.
Their story is embedded into a compelling mystery including Cait’s divorce and Ford’s ongoing murder investigation. I firstly thought both plot lines would eventually interveine, but this book only reveals the ending for Cait, leaving me curious about the investigation that never was finished.
Overall, the story was a nice weekend read, so I recommend it to everyone who loves a mixed genre with spicy romance and a dark mystery.

First time reading a story by Kit McKenna and it is a great introduction to her work. The Prologue kind of puzzled me at first but on further reading I got it. Money can be a good thing or a very bad thing. But for Caitlynn it did not change her personality at all. Even if her father was an ogre. It has been going on more than 20 years and her last child is graduating and starting her new career. Caitlynn thinks it is about time to think about herself. She wants to make some changes in her marriage. But where to start? Along the way she meets Ford and he is quite a surprise. Could this be a new beginning? Well, hang onto your hats because this may get a little bumpy.

August 15, 2024I wasn’t sure how the wish was going to play into the story because it came later than I was expecting. Ignoring the blurb on the back, I did enjoy the story. Loved Ford & felt for Cait’s situation. Their dynamic was great- how they felt deeply, but questioned the timeframe & timing like adults would. Together they burned up the sheets. Good read & am intrigued on where the series will go from here.

A tender romantic story with a little twist. I enjoyed this light read about a women trying to move on after decades of an unhappy marriage. The kids are grown and out of the house, as is her cheating husband. One day at the gym she runs into a man that will forever change her life. This is my first book by Kit McKenna that I received in my month book club. I can say that I am looking forward to her next book in The Belladonna Society.

It was a good little read. There’s a couple of discrepancies with the story layout. I didn’t like that there seems to be loose ends with the oldest son, the friend and her forgetfulness at dinner, I wanted the murders to be solved and the killer caught. I just feel it’s unfinished but I did enjoy the story.

What a pleasant read!
I was very pleased with this novel.
The plot is interesting and I loved both main protagonists.
Their characters were written very well, and their love story - absolutely believable and heartwarming.

Caitlynn story was very slow to start till about halfway thru the book than her side picked up. Ford story line was good it keep my interest in finishing the book in hopes that he finished his case. but over all it was an alright book, left a lot for things out.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can’t wait to continue the Belladonna Society adventure. If the next book is half as good, I know I’m in for a treat.

The 1st book in a series and it has some great chapters! I love the romance, the family dynamics and the suspense, but there are some gaps to fill in.

Meh. 😑
This had so much potential but fell flat. So many gaps and too many unanswered questions. The story kept circling and never took hold of anything substantial. It’s like throwing a wet paper towel at the wall and seeing if it sticks.
