When one door closes for the young witch, Raven Alby, she'll kick open another one.
Raven is graduating from Fowler Academy with her fierce red dragon, Leander by her side. She is taking on the responsibilities of a WarMage--just like her late mother--and has joined the kingdom's army corps and their fleet of dragons.
Time to get ready for whatever the world throws at Raven and her homeland, the kingdom of Lomberdoon.
Something is affecting the dragons, wild and tame. A few have turned up crazed, spitting fire and ice, right before they die. Did the creepy crawly monsters that once plagued the kingdom leave one last poisonous gift behind?
Can the corps' veterinarian, Dr. Welby find out what's causing it and create a cure before it's too late?
And Raven's grandfather, Connor, has gone missing. Can her frenemy, Bella and her private company track him down for Raven--in exchange for a favor, of course. Things are changing in the land of Lomberdoon and battles may be on the horizon. Who will stand with Raven and Leander?
Okay, I'm a late bloomer who's a big DC comics fan and spent my childhood summers on the Jersey shore but I was born under a wandering star and have lived in different parts of America ever since. That's enough about me. Need to feel inspired today? Looking for something to make you root for an ordinary hero? I'm all about that in everything I write.
I love a good tale that makes me wonder about things and I love a story even more that leaves me feeling inspired or like I'm capable of doing more than I realized. That's my goal with everything I've ever written. Some of the stories I tell involve twisting, turning thrillers and others have a lot of magic.
There's something to be said for getting lost in another world and coming out the other side feeling a little better about yourself or the possibilities in front of you. That's basically the best part of life in a nutshell, no matter what kind of story I'm setting out to tell.
Bubbling with joy and turning around for an immediate Re-read!
This is an incredible entry into the world of Raven and Leander… And wow! What a way to spike the reader in the first few pages…
Don’t approach this with any expectation of having the slightest clue where “real“ life is going to take Raven. Astounding is perhaps the best word that comes to mind with the way they handle an amazing story.
If I were to summarize this book in a one line header for a marketing tag, “Just as with “great power,” with great strength of character comes great responsibility. Raven is given the chance to raise the bar for the whole kingdom just as a far more ancient menace returns to threaten all they’ve built.”
Ok that was 2 lines. Get over it, pick up this up and be prepared to ENJOY!
Raven and Leander are like family, the war mage and her dragon
Change is a constant in all worlds, this story continues after Raven graduates from mage school. She enlists with the military of her kingdom and demonstrates how her approach to magic and her connection to her Dragon, although unusual, helps the kingdom and teaches the other dragon rider's new ways of flying and defending their homeland.
A wonderful continuation of Raven and Leander's story!
This book begins at the leaving ceremony for Raven's classmates at Fowler Academy. This is three years after the previous series ended, and the fourth year of her training, there.
Each of her group of friends have their future decided on, and Raven has her heart set on beginning a new War Mage Corp, within the Air Corp of her King's Forces.
This turns out to be much more difficult to attain, than Raven had assumed it to be but, as she so often does, she decides to keep her aim in mind, as she takes her first steps within her new life as an Adult Mage, and Dragon Rider.
I really enjoyed reading this book, and can't wait to start book two: 'Dragons Rising', to see what's going to happen next, now that Raven has been given more responsibility.
As usual, there are stories within stories, and I'm very much looking forward to untangling them all, to find out the who, and the why, of the various plot lines.
So, I'm off to start reading Book Two, and I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I think of it!
This us a wonderful adventure. Raven has just graduated magic school (I didn't read the prior series about Fowler school, if there is one.) Raven is a bit of a rebel, she thinks outside of the box and Leander is her perfect partner. I read this book for the dragons, or course. I enjoyed the story. The characters are great and show some development. Most of this book is just getting to know Raven as an adult and how well she and Leander work together. The story gets serious when dragons get sick and start leaking black gunk before they just die. Did they get rid if the black gunk? I guess book 2 is needed, so I'd guess this series needs to be read in order.
I was very happy to find out that my favorite warmage and her dragon are back. The characters in these stories are great and the storylines have lots of magic, humor, fighting and suspense. With some of Ravens old friends making an appearance and her making new friends there is a lot to look forward to in this new series. I am looking forward to the next books.
Just when I think I have read an awesome series along comes Martha with what I feel is the best in a series of great books. I really enjoyed the school years with Raven, somehow this book topped them all. Raven, all grown up, locked and loaded. Outstanding. Thanks for the great read!
She is a rebel at heart and her familiar is one of the largest dragons. He also happens to be a rebel. They join the STAR PROGRAM (read military) and come up against sick and dying dragons. The writing and character building are fairly well done and it is a good book.
Oh the next installment following Raven and Leander on the next journey. Yet again, full out adventure including some unexpected surprises...and of course some friends from their school days and new ones. Really hope this one is released as a box set...eventually!! Thank you both for continuing the adventure!!
This is a really great story. I do however have some complaints - I wish more of the old characters were in the book. I also am upset about the way William moss is not a huge part of the book and about the way he is in this book. However this book has great new characters, dragons and lots of action! Raven is back and it is awesome!!

The continuing story of raven and leander. Well written and with insight into mining procedures and the insidious fungi which affects all dragons of infected grows apace. Waiting on the next instalment of this enthralling series .
So very glad that Raven is back. This was an excellent way to bring her back like she never left. Something to make the dragons go crazy then kill them a great puzzle. An what are the strange people doing? What will Raven grandfather find?
Good to see Raven back with new adventures. Leander and Raven take on a whole different set of situations and problems and seem to handle them well. I'm looking forward to book two
We'll we'll .. waited and hoped for a continuation if thud amazing story and Martha Carr once again delivers a great intensely light hearted story that keeps you wondering where all the time went
Raven has finally graduated, and has joined the army. Of course it’s one with dragons and riders, but will the willful mage and dragon rider find comfort in a regimented society? A good read.
Enemies come in many shapes and sizes. Can the greatest threat to dragon and man be stopped?
Another really good read that leaves you the readers need to find our. Some fantastic surprises await you. A really worth while book to add to your collection!!!
I missed reading about these characters so this was a pleasant surprise
Having read multiple books prior to this about the same characters, it was great to see this come out and I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it
AT FIRST WAS NOT INTERESTED IN ANOTHER DRAGON TALE.
I first had a heavy compunction of wasting my time with another dragon book. But, it did not take long before it captured my interest. Now, I have to continue to just get this reader's itch out of my system. LOL
Fun and way too quick. The kids have grown and things are moving forward as they come to realize things change...life is not static. I can't wait to read the next!
