So, this is an expected volume as we slow-burn our way to a possible romance (or disaster? nah. . ) between Komi and Tadano. Valentine's Day/White Day. So you might expect some actual clear romantic moves, but no, a chocolate can mean so. many. things, especially in ths series where so many people can't communicate. So we get anguish instead, though Komi is actually starting to talk more, developing a few more friendships (73 to go get to 100) to help her.
Katai is an interesting character who actually makes a connection with Tadano. Yamai's continuing crush on Komi is supposed to be adorably cute, but it seems a little creepy to me.
But what we all want to know: Will Komi actually be able to give her best hand-made chocolates to Tadano? We have to wait a long time to find out, but that is part of the humor and charm of the series. And then, what does it MEAN to get these chocolates??! Oh, she just thinks of me as a friend, ha ha. At this pace we can maybe expect one episode of hand-holding in volume 16 and a single kiss in volume 27. . .

A sweet volume as the kids get all anxious about Valentine's Day and the reciprocation of gifts on the following White Day. The cuteness and gentle humor is marred a bit by a very fetishistic fan service chapter with a creepy, stalking classmate who just keeps getting worse and worse. (That's her on the cover lying on the ground trying to get an up-skirt shot of Komi with her phone. Eew.)

This series is so cute.
Valentine's/White Day theme for this one mostly, with the kind of misunderstandings you would (and perhaps would not) expect.
MORE KATAI, MORE KATAI. I love how mostly everyone is scared of him because of his intimidating exterior but he's a soft marshmallow inside.
Also, Komi's parents as teenagers? Omg absolutely adorable.
This manga is just such a comfy read and makes me happy. Nice to have something like this right now.

Volume 9 contains that standard trope of school based manga, the entire Valentines-White Day arc, but this series has one of the most heartwarming and funniest depictions of it.

Another enjoyable installment in this series with Komi Can't Communicate, Vol. 9. This volume focuses on the pretty typical Valentine's Day/White Day theme, but it is sweetly (and funnily) done with a lot more focus on the friendship aspect. I do love that Komi is starting to improve and take the initiative more, it's been so much fun to see her grow! Tadano as well! I look forward to seeing what the next volume brings.

Komi still can’t communicate. Oh, and Valentine’s Day is approaching. Is Tadano in for a sweet ending or will Komi’s homemade chocolate see his hopes whisked away?
There is no chance for this volume to measure up to the adorable school trip arc from last time, but it does have some real high points. The entire Valentine’s section is pretty fun, showing a lot of welcome cast interaction beyond the leads.
I love the incredible number of fake-outs with Tadano’s storyline (which carries over to White Day); it was really executed well, and I especially liked the way his sister got involved. In some ways he is just as bad as Komi, which has me hoping that in the end she’s the one with the confidence to confess. That would be pretty much perfect.
The two new characters are fun - I think the overly helpful girl is probably my favourite of the two (she REALLY cannot say no). The other one is pleasant until ogre mode engages, but we never see it happen so it’s a bit of a dud. I love the way her hair is drawn through the whole thing though - it’s great design work.
By far my absolute favourite section is a chapter showing Komi’s mom meeting and falling for her dad. I normally hate these sorts of flashbacks, but the dynamic between them is so damn charming that it’s completely irresistible. More of this please.
The biggest downside is going to be a total broken record from me, but I despise Yamai, the girl with the psychotic crush on Komi. I realize it’s being played for laughs, but it isn’t funny. Crossing lines and making people with anxiety disorders uncomfortable doesn’t go far with me.
It was also a bummer to see the school trip duo sidelined. I mean, I knew it would happen, but they were the best additions to the cast in ages. I’m glad they got a little to do, but it wasn’t near enough (and this shogi chapter was much lamer than the last one).

Komi is super popular despite her aloof reputation. Only timid Tadano seems to notice that she doesn't talk... ever! When she reaches out to him on the first day of class he quickly realizes it's awkwardness holding her back. Now he'll become her first friend in her quest to make 100 friends.
I absolutely adore Komi Can’t Communicate and volume 9 was just as good, maybe better because there were a lot of Komi and Tadano moments. He’s a bit clueless but has a really good heart and is quite bold at unusual moments. The Valentine’s Day and White Day flurry was quite fun. I wish we had both in the US!
There were quite a few group situations in this volume. Komi is getting better one on one so this is a welcome change. I loved, loved, loved when she meets the siblings of one of her friends and they ask embarrassing questions. Also her parents as teens was squeeeeee worthy.

Thankfully this year Komi has a secret weapon to combat the stressful holiday, her new friends. Now armed with homemade chocolates, Komi prepares to give Tadano his Valentine’s gift before the day is over, no matter how nervous she might be.
I really enjoy this series. Not too silly, not too serious, just warm feelings. I am always so excited to get each new volume.

This was so cute with this volume focused mainly on Valentine's Day/White Day.
Komi makes chocolate for her friends and even Tadano but is embarrassed to give it to him so does not receive any chocolate.
I can't wait for the next volume and how Komi and Tadano get together.

Your usual cuteness, but this volume dragged quite a lot with the whole Valentine's Day/White Day (which I didn't even know existed) thing.
The best part is the young Komi's parents story, and even parents in general for the whole volume. And Katai, of course.
