The essential, gentle guide to breastfeeding in the fourth trimester - whatever that looks like for you.
Have you recently had a baby, and feel like you're on a rollercoaster looking for answers? Are you pregnant, and wondering what life is really going to be like post-birth? Perhaps you're a partner, family member or friend who is helping to care for new parents.
Written by an expert lactation consultant, Breastfeeding and the Fourth Trimester will give you all the information you need, explaining the methods, tips, and tricks that accompany breastfeeding - alongside abundant reassurance. Woven through with case studies and real parent stories, and advice on troubleshooting for every stage, this book is the ideal companion for those first few whirlwind months of life with a newborn.
The most useful, informative book I have read about parenting. Wish I'd read it when I was pregnant and will definitely come back to it if I ever have another baby. Very validating!
Fantastic read! I read it whilst really struggling to get through the early stages of breastfeeding as a first time mam with my little one and it really helped, not only for the sound advice but also for the comfort in knowing I wasn't going insane and my experiences were shared.
With this in mind I have shared your book with all of my pregnant friends and will continue to do so. I really consider it a gift that has helped us get through a rough patch and I am very grateful.
Stacked with info and diagrams and well structured, definitely UK-centric though, which was probably a good thing scope-wise. Published in 2023 so inclusivity and diversity are woven in. I hope there are similar books out there that are more relevant for other health care systems and that women can access help easily for such an integral part of childrearing.
Flicked through a few books on breastfeeding and wasn’t convinced at all, but this one is very different and so good! Easy to read, no unnecessary points like trying to convince the reader about benefits of BF (if someone grabs such book I think it’s safe to assume there’s no need), nor idealising the mythical “village”. Instead she’s keeping it real and at the same time encouraging via the lovely supportive tone. I really appreciated reading “you’re doing brilliantly” every now and then! Cannot recommend it highly enough to read while still pregnant or as soon as possible after the birth.
This book supported me with so much in the fourth trimester. It normalised many things i was concerned about and gave me confidence and tools to advocate for further support where needed. I have recommended to all my pregnant friends who intend to breastfeed. I only wish i’d read it sooner!! ⭐️
I purchased and read this book leading up to the birth of my second baby. I had breastfed my first baby for 2.5 years but it was not an easy start and so wanted to be much better prepared this time around. Information is given in a non judgemental and gentle way, but also lays straight what is normal and not normal, and when and where to seek support. In a society where there are many myths and limited support surrounding breastfeeding, I think this book is without a doubt the best tool to have and refer back to if you are or planning on breastfeeding. Having read this book, I’ve felt empowered when discussing feeding and seeking support from professionals. Thank you for writing this book!
As a Grandmother who still remembers how insure I was about being able to breastfeed I love the way the author reminds us gently that your baby is not independent the minute it leaves your body and needs nurturing which often has to be learnt. There is no judgement just helpful, realistic and reassuring advice that you are doing ok. An invaluable book especially for first time mum's during pregnancy (when you have more time to read) and early days.
Best book I have ever read on breastfeeding. It's a lovely practical guide full of useful information and great tips. Every one considering breastfeeding should get this book.
