Straight From the Heart: An autobiography by Kapil Dev as recorded through interview with Jyoti Sabharwal of Macmillan India Limited. In comparison to the other Autobiography by Kapil Dev, this book is chronological order from initial playing days as a child to after retirement. He is a simple patriot who played for the pleasure of the game and won laurels for the nation. He has written details about how Manoj Prabhakar interviewed to Outlook that Kapil had asked to take Rs 25 lakh in a match to fix the match. After this an income tax raid was done at all his residences and offices. All this ultimately did not result in any result. He was awarded Wisden Player of the Century. Apart from Cricket he has been playing Golf, Billiards and squash. With the help of his brothers he has invested n business- hotel, development of lighting system in sports complex and many more. He has written that Cricket administration in India (BCCI) should be in the hands of professional cricket players and not in the hands of Honorary persons who have no time for the development of the game and no knowledge of the complexities of the game. BCCI has enough money to develop the cricket at State level so the youngsters can be groomed for the game and India can develop an international level cricket team. It is an impressive and encouraging book. A must read for all.

Forget talking about life events in chronological order, when the former Indian captain tells about his life's experiences in random manner, you can compare the same with an old man telling fables of his past to a child. No wonder, the words come straight from the heart. People who witnessed the historical feat of 1983 or have read about it in the past could better relate with Kapil's words; probably because a few connecting nodes are missing in the book. However, it's worth a read!

An honest, and perhaps a slightly biased story of one of India's greatest cricketers
