Finish What You Started (The Kurtherian Endgame Book 5) - a review by Rosemary Kenny
It's here at last folks! The long-awaited, (by comparison with the incredible speed of despatch normally executed by the lightning-fast minded Michael Anderle,in his many other series) 5th book in the Kurtherian Endgame series, continuing the fantastic universe-wide saga of justice and peace, starring Bethany Anne, (aka The Queen Bitch, aka Baba Yaga, aka The Empress), enhanced Human ruler of the Etheric, wife of ancient, (though he doesn't look it) vampire Michael Nacht, mother of Alexis and Tabitha etc etc. With a welcome index of characters and other relevant terminology at the start and interesting illustrations of the aliens (of which there are many), at suitable points throughout, Finish What You Started continues Bethany Anne, her family and allies' battle on the planet of New Devon, to eliminate the Ooken who have enslaved The Collective and are using their 'essences', (along with that of other captured aliens) to further empower the hated Kurtherians who have long been Bethany Anne's enemies as they seek to destroy the Federation. Naturally this is a total thrill-fest that will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout.
Luckily there are more books to follow the previous four, so grab a copy of Finish What You Started and buckle up for a wild ride with all the Kurtherian Endgame adventures - they'll give you a supersonic thrill like no other. Don't delay - the countdown's started!
I am definitely starting to get the feeling that this series is becoming overdue for being wrapped up. I really liked The Kurtherian Gambit when I started reading it. The Kurtherian Endgame is more or less the continuation of The Kurtherian Gambit. So much that the two series could really be one and the same.
The problem I have now is that the series is just barely keeping my interest any more. Sure, the same good action, sharp tongued dialogue and ass kicking by the Queen Bitch is still there. However, it’s really not going anywhere. It feels like a somewhat disjointed set of (too many) threads and events that never really leads anywhere but are just there so Bethany Anne can come and kick some ass and/or curse a bit.
The series started to go downhill for me when the author decided that Bethany Anne should abdicate from the throne and be forced to work in secrecy, hiding her ships and not really have any resources at hand any more. To me that was a really stupid idea.
At the beginning of the first series Bethany Anne was much more present and it was really her story. Now there are a shitload of characters, each of them quite likable in various ways, which means that none of them really stands out. It is not Bethany Anne’s story any more.
I do still enjoy reading these books but if things do not shape up soon I might actually put this series on the to-read-maybe-if-I-have-the-time list. A shame really.
Solid 5 star rating. It has been some time since the last BA book. I've missed reading about her, Michael, the twins and their adventures. The author doesn't disappoint with this installment. You can see BA changing with motherhood but still keeps true to her character for all else. Michael as definitely changed for the better. Oh there's still the Patriarch in there but it's not so in the open anymore. He's a husband and father first and foremost now. Hopefully the next one won't be so long in the wait.
How does it keep evolving into something even better???
I was hooked on the Kurtherian Gambit from the moment I started reading Death Becomes Her. It feels like an agonising eternity between new books in the Endgame, as I want to read them all **NOW**!!!
Each new story not only keeps me on the edge of my seat, but also enriches the overall storyline. Keep them coming, Michael!
What can I say, it’s B.A. I have to give 5 stars. A family that fights together...and family doesn’t end in blood. Sorry but this brings the original and off shoot series together so no stand alone.
Grammatical errors are just so annoying. The use of BETWEEN instead of AMONG was so clear and bad! Between compares 2 items and Among more than 2. Please. Get it right. Other than that the story is simple, predictable and is now moving into YA territory. For me, I will be moving to another author. Thanks for the ride.
This series has been mediocre at best for quite a while, but I thought the last book All’s Fair in Blood and War was an improvement. This book didn’t quite continue the upward trend, but it wasn’t bad. However it still feels disjointed, as if it was put together in a rush.
It's been a few years since we left Bethany-Anne and Michael. Now they're back and they brought the kids. The family dynamics play a large role in this story. I was uncertain about how that would fit in the overall story of Bethany-Anne and Michael's war against the Kurtherians, but it turns out that it not only works, it makes the characters stronger and more determined to end the Kurtherian threat. This entire series and its characters have surprised me and drawn me in so much further than I ever dreamed it would. I normally read high fantasy and scifi. These are so much lighter and fast paced they almost feel like they were written as episodes in a TV series. I give all the credit for my love of, and addiction to their stories, to the writing and personal beliefs of the authors. Especially, Michael Anderle. His sense of duty and honor is something rarely seen these days. He and I seem to feel the same way about how people should treat each other. And how it is the responsibility of those who have power, to use their power, in whatever form it takes, to help and better the lives they come in contact with.
I'd forgotten just how intense it is, reading about Bethany Anne. She is such a huge personality and, in this story, she has finally come into her own, where her powers are concerned.
I absolutely lost all awareness of the world around me while reading this. In fact, I even forgot to list this book on here, before starting to read, because I loaded the book up, and started reading straight away, so forgot about the mundane stuff - because Bethany Anne is just awesome to read about!
I'm loving that everything is finally coming together in this story. This book set the scene beautifully for whatever is coming next, and I'm really sad that I've got quite a few books to read before I get to book 27!
Only another 8 books, and I'm back here, waiting to see what Bethany Anne is going to do next! How awesome is that?
So, in the meantime, my next book on my reading list is book 5 of the Superdreadnought series - I'm so looking forwards to see what's going to happen next with this!
This KU library selection is the continuation of Bethany Anne and team rooting out oppression and slavery in her corner of the universe. The Federation came about due to her efforts to provide a safe place, but the species under her protection fear BA as being too powerful. As part of their agreement, BA is exiled, but she has been preparing for just that eventua!ity by building a safe place for her family and friends on the nearby High Tortuga . Now she's discovered another species taken over by the Kutherians and she''s taking the war to them. BA is tired of hiding, but the Kutherians have been preparing as well. BA is coming out of exile. Will the Federation stand with her against the real threat or will fear continue to drive them. Book six is up next.
BA is getting Michael more proficient working with the power of the Etheric as well as herself. It’s time to take it to the Ookans so it’s all hands on deck. BA is going to kick a$$ and take names. And save a few captives along the way. Until she hits a snag ( there’s always a snag). The twins, who were left behind, Alexis, somehow knowing her mother needs help, along with Gabriel, make a daring bid to help their mother…with the assistance of Izanami. Worked out well for Bethany Anne, not so much for Izanami. Of course the Kurtherians aren’t happy after that set back and decide TQB (Death as she is known by them) really needs to become unalive. We shall have to wait and see how that is going to play out for them. Lol
Mr. Anderle, you've done it again. My husband ( who is not a reader), survived another Bethany Anne book with his usual eye rolling and smirking. He has become Very familiar with her through the many books you've written, and the MANY times I've read them. Your characters mesh in wonderful ways and your storylines keep expanding to accept more and more! Characters, scenarios, villains, SHOES! I also love the way you incorporate our times and movies(Game of Thrones, lol) and stuff. Keep up the good work and Never Submit, Never Surrender ( I couldn't do ns squared with my phone). Ad Aeternitatem Michael
Once again I am so into this series I was like NOON ON I have to wait for book six for a while 8 days ugh.
How does this author so this?? I mean from book one in this kutherian world. It is a ride that is for sure and it just keeps getting better and better. I don't want it to end but I don't want to have to wait for the next books. Doubleheader sword that is. Please keep them coming faster. This author has kept me intrigued and now I am off to another series of his.
I am loving this continuation of Bethany Anne's story. The books are still hard hitting and full of action, but for some reason it is okay that they are released less often. BA grows ever closer to taking out the Seven, to the point that they are now worried and a bit ticked off. I am also loving the fact that everyone now has kids and even in the future there are no easy answers for parents. Write on Mr. Anderle!
Another good story, advancing the plot, bringing in the Kurtherians(7), etc. I like the wealth of characters, and he's i find trying to find out the whose who, etc, can be tedious, Anderle writes in a style which must encourages you to come along and enjoy the ride, with snippets of life we can recognize and enjoy our not, based upon our own experiences. Looking forward to finishing at some point in the future
AND Michael Anderle just keeps getting it so right!! The growth of the characters, setting and storyline are so damn good that I had to finish in one sitting; 1:20am on a Monday and having to get up for work in 5 hours time. BUT you know what, who cares... I love how you can get so deep into a book that you don’t even realise how much time has passed and Anderle’s Kutherian Gambit Universe books do just that. Now onto the next book!
Everything is very similar to the previous books, so it's close to the 5* I have given previously, however the amount of time spent describing the Kids development in the virtual world drove me nuts It may prove relevant to the storyline later, but it seemed to drag on for far more than was necessary Other than that, it's the usual stuff from the author, action politics and humour, although the latter seems to have gone off the boil a little
I have read all the 25 books so far. They are a fantastic way to unwind from my stressful day. You will be brought to new world with great creatures and people of all types. It. Has good verses evil. There is also the wonders of the universe (aka imagination) to be hold. I can’t wait to see where Michael takes us now. Thank you again for your imagination Wendy
Inventive Use of the spelling of common names for characters .
Mr A & companions have made my reading enjoyment top the charts. A new author & several new series, later & I am a devoted f a n. Da'Mahan sounds like Damien, another bad guy of legend is.just one example. I love the behind the scenes political critical observations. Kutherians of the world, tremble in your shoes. BA is on her way!
This was an emotional roller coaster read! Just when I thought a story couldn't get any better, this book is read. The feeling of family, honor, and trust is paramount throughout this series of books, and this book was not an exception. The main characters grow closer and more important to the reader as each book is read. The plot is easily followed and the story line throughout is protect the innocent and destroy those who would harm them. I cannot recommend this book highly enough!
Bethany Anne is a mother and a wife, but she still kicks butt. Michael is coming into his roles as father and husband but will not allow any harm to come to his family. The characters are very well written and defined. I like the action, humor and love of family. BA gains a lot of power and makes good use of it. I eagerly await the next book.
Bethany Anne is still the most complex and beloved character. She is growing all the time and her ability with the Etheric has jumped a pace. Her war with the Ooken comes to a head a great sacrifice will be needed to save all. Upgrades for the family will be required for the bigger war ahead with the Kurtherians.
From the title I was afraid that this was the end of the series! Spoiler alert, no, it isn't!. BA and crew are back doing what they do best kicking ass and taking names. We catch up with some old friends too. As usual it's nonstop action. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute.
What's not to like about another book with Bethany Anne? As hard as it is to believe, she continues to grow and learn and evolve. As she continues to become more than human, she also stays very human. Read ALL of her books, it is a treat for the mind and imagination.
This is more like the BA of old as ass kicking xome to the fore with increased fighting and more enemies and maybe even new allies to help. The tech is pushed forward as well as does all that they can do to defend the federation and all else that comes under BAs protection.
Each book has you wanting more about what is going to happen next! The development of this story evolves with each book like a awesome saga.Defiantly could make a awesome anime series, I say this because the venture allows more depth and with 3D animation the characters development would be like the book.
BA is badder then ever with Michael by her side. We experienced a loss and a reckoning in this book. Also we are welcoming new people into the family. The Baca are adding to the story while we get a glimpse of others coming together. I've been calling it Federation 2.0. We have one of the lost slowly coming back into the fold.
Bethany Anne never fails to make you both laugh and cry. She is like so many of us, strong and fragile while still pushing forward one glorious shoe after another. She leaves destruction and creation in her wake. Those of us privledged to join her will be forever changed for the better.
How Could a Story About BA by MA Not be A 5 Star Read
The answer of course is that it could but the odds are so unlikely as would be our sun going nova, yesterday. I've spent the last 4 weeks or so re-reading every TKG -BA and TKE book right up to this one - they still grab my attention as much as they did the first time through.
