Colin

Being rejected by family hurt like hell, but I kept my head high, left my toxic relatives behind, and moved across the country to Gaynor Beach, CA. Luckily, I have great furry company. My French bulldog puppy, Widget, was dumped on me for not meeting my parents' ridiculously high standards either, so we're comforting each other. With a nice rental house and a new job, Widget and I were ready for a fresh start—until I got a devastating diagnosis. I can't take care of Widget properly while trying to save my own life, and I expect a long, hard road. I'll have to break both our hearts and put her up for adoption, for her sake. Right?

James

I’ve wanted a pet forever, but my family circumstances didn’t allow it. Now I’m away from my masses of relatives and on my own, and I’m ready to take on a furry companion. My friend, a guy who never says no to an animal in need, introduces me to Colin and his beautiful puppy Widget. I’m horrified Colin feels he needs to give her up just because he's sick, but I’m happy to take Widget as a temporary foster. I’m also happy to offer support to the new guy in town who is so very alone during a time of crisis. Helping someone in need comes naturally to me. But what if that temporary help turns into me wanting a forever relationship?

This is a gay romance slow-burn novel about new beginnings, found family, unconditional love, and a puppy named Widget. This middle-angst story has a guaranteed happily ever after.

I listened half and stopped, but the story itself was fine. I already was down, and this story was too much te cope with. I am only slightly annoyed by a village where 90% of the inhabitants are gay.
Arthur and Jordan have distinctly performed voices. But both protagonists have the same voice as each other and for speech and thoughts, and the narrator rushes along without pause, making me very confused

This is a heartfelt story with strong characters in Colin and James. The author does a great job developing their story and brings a sweet, slow burn romance with a touching storyline. She paints her scenes perfectly and had me glued to the pages reading their story. Loved and recommend this book.

Love Furever is the first book in the new series ‘Friends of Gaynor Beach Animal Rescue’. This is a spin-off of the ‘Single Dads of Gaynor Beach’ series. This stars Colin and his dog Widget, and James, who is self-employed. This is told in first person from Colin and James’s povs.

First, I’ll start with the cover. It fits perfect for the story. The cover model is James and Widget. I give the cover an ‘A’ for representing the story.

The blurb does a good job of describing the plot. I’ll add that this is slow burn because of Colin’s illness, so the two men can’t have fun times for a while.

I’ve read a few other books by this author, including a couple from the original series. I usually like her books, but I had a difficult time getting pulled into this one. Maybe because what I read was an ARC, but it didn’t read smoothly. The feelings and thoughts sometimes didn’t seem to relate to what was happening. For instance, what Colin and James would express with their feelings to each other early on about how wonderful the other was, but later tell readers what they thought about the other was different. Like how someone is polite to your face, but thinking not so kind thoughts. The discrepancy was confusing and it made it difficult to believe in the two as a couple. Add in that there were significant time jumps and after the time jumps, one of the men would mention how their feelings were growing more intense, but there weren’t deep emotional interactions to convey that. It came across as telling instead of showing.

The author did a good job of describing how Colin’s illness made him tired and affected him, but I didn’t feel drawn in. Maybe it was because Colin was more cerebral compared to James, and except for during sex or in regards of caring for Widget, Colin didn’t express himself much. He just seemed angry about his illness and hurt by his parents and family and how they treated him. Despite a physical description of Colin, he came across like a ghost, without any features and just a talking body, and I’m pretty good at visualizing a character if given features and emotional depth.

James had a huge family that was in each other’s business, and accepted Colin right away. James was ambitious, outgoing, and tended to have ‘plans’ that had to be changed when he met Colin and Widget. It was easier to connect to James because he had feelings and his character bounced off his family dynamics. I wasn’t a fan however of how the family slapped and hit each other, ‘out of love.’ Those hits I found troublesome.

There is an error I spotted immediately which I hope is fixed in time before publishing. One of the characters mentioned doing something on Boxing Day or something like that. The US doesn’t have Boxing Day, especially in Southern California. That’s a Canadian or UK thing. So this wording would have to be changed or a different date used for a substitute.

Anyway, Widget was my favorite character in this book, along with James’s friend Arthur who ran the animal rescue. Colin and James were okay, I just couldn’t connect with them. I give Love Furever, 3 Stars because the plot is good and so is Widget.

Wow, this book was absolutely not what I expected when I started; it was seriously emotional and covered a lot of really emotional and difficult topics, but it was an incredible read and I am going to be thinking about this one for a long time to come.

Investment banker Colin has been abandoned by his wealthy family, after he was outed as being gay by his family doctor. Colin caught Hep C after a one night stand, and due to his homophobic parents and hidden lifestyle, he didn’t get tested and left it too long to be treated. His liver is failing and he urgently needs a transplant in order to survive. Weak and accompanied only by the French Bulldog puppy his parents also discarded for having health issues, Colin moves to Gaynor Beach California to try and survive treatment.

James has moved to Gaynor beach to escape his loving yet overbearing family - he has a small startup cyber security business and one friend in the area, Arthur, who runs a small animal rescue out of his home. When Arthur mentions that he has met an ill young man in need of someone to help look after his puppy, James feels obligated to help, but after meeting the beautiful but ailing Colin and his French Bulldog puppy, he feels drawn to the pair. As they both work on getting the puppy settled and trained, the two men grow closer and James is determined to help Colin, no matter how ill he gets.

As a Frenchie mama myself, I instantly knew I had to read this one, but I was expecting a puppy-meet cute a-la 101 Dalmatians… this book was so angsty and emotional and it brought tears to my eyes in places. Colin is only 32 and he is facing death if he cannot get a transplant; there is a lot of discussion around planning for death and the horribleness of potentially terminal illness. It also explores the ideas of unsafe sex as a form of self-destruction due to homophobia and Colin’s regret at what he has done. It was deep and heavy and oh-so-emotional.

James’s family were amazing and supportive - he comes from a large, loud family with lots of relatives who love him and embrace Colin wholeheartedly. It’s wonderful to see Colin’s healing ARC after being abandoned by his family but essentially being adopted into James’s.

The only reason this book doesn’t get 5 stars from me is that is it so child-centric, which doesn’t resonate with me personally as a reader without children. Two of James’s sisters verbally say that they do not want children, and both are met with phrases like ‘you say that now…’ or ‘just wait until you find the right person’. Same with Colin, due to his illness and shortened life expectancy he actively worries about raising children, but James sort of brushes off his concerns and says that he’d be a great dad in the time that he has. It just sort of gives me the ick because not having children is a valid choice for a whole myriad of reasons, and I hate when people don’t take that at face value.

Overall though, this was a great (if deeply emotional) read and I loved the representation of someone suffering from a long term illness and how a romantic relationship can still happen under those difficult circumstances.

Audio Arc review

James comes from a large family and at long last he finds himself living on his own in his new home. His best friend Arthur lives close and they love each other, but there is no chemistry.

Colin has been disowned by his family, for being gay and being ill with hepatitis and needs a liver transplant. He leaves his family home with his french bulldog ‘Chambord’ in tow. Chambord who later has a name change to Widget, is a poorly dog and needs medical care.
Colin is also sick and needs to have surgery, so he knows he has to give up Widget. Arthur works at a veterinary centre, that helps to re home pets, where Colin takes Widget, he suggests rather than giving her up, she could be fostered in the short term. James helps out with Widget, and also ends up having feelings for Colin.

James and Colin meet and hit it off, but Colin worries that relationships are off the cards with his illness. Spending more and more time together, feelings start to emerge.

This book is heartbreaking in some places, but is so well written, and the slow burn love between the main characters is just wonderful. Please read the content warnings.
This is my first book by Gabbi Grey novel and I loved the way the story evolved and grew. The narration of the book was also excellent.

This is a story with all of the feels... a sick MC, a French bulldog puppy, and a tall, dark and handsome man who comes to help out with the puppy. James has been wanting to foster a kitten, but when his animal rescue buddy connects him with Colin and his puppy, James is happy to help out where there is a need, and Colin seems to need his help as much as his sweet puppy, Widget. I loved these characters, their slow burn romance replete with caregiving and patience, James's big, crazy and welcoming family, and the love for a pet which holds it all together. If you've read the first Single Dads of Gaynor beach series, you may recognize a few old friends. I'm looking forward to more stories in this new series.

Widget for the win!

This was an awesome book, it tackled some very deep and emotional topics, and yet still brought humour and fun to the story.

For Colin and James, it really is a case of opposites attract, not just in looks and personality, but also background and family situation, they were perfect for each other. I loved James's family, how they embraced Colin (and each other).

I also really liked the way the book even had, in my opinion, some good dog and pet educational information.

I felt like some of the scenes with James’ family could have been cut – not all of them, but the information about side characters and small talk was a bit excessive for me. I know I say this all the time, but while I enjoyed the book in general, it could have been shorter.

3.5/5 stars, rounded down to 3.

Colin & James

This one took me on a little bit of an emotional rollercoaster. The ups and downs were worth it for the story though. I really enjoyed reading and listening to it. The narration by Michael Ferraiuolo was great for this story.

I received an ARC and this is my unbiased opinion

I really loved the idea of this one. However, the execution wasn’t great. The writing was really awkward, I didn’t really like the characters, and the medical issues… didn’t really feel like issues.

A Joyfully Jay review.

4 stars

This is a pretty quick dash to love, and I was okay with it. James and Colin are both pretty lonely guys when it comes to love. They want to love fully and be loved back–even if Colin’s afraid his diagnosis will reduce his longevity from decades to months. Colin’s health challenges are severe, and his money won’t save him, as the first half of the book is really good about showing. But James’ love, that could save him from depression, if nothing else. Colin is fully honest about his prognosis with James and his entire family, who accept him at face value and won’t accept Colin giving up without a fight. His gratitude is unmeasurable, especially when he gets a huge push toward health.

Back in one of my favorite cities, Gaynor Beach - which couldn’t be gayer- we finally (well me, this is a me issue) get the story of Colin and James. I’ve read these totally out of order but it was an absolute delight to go back and see how their relationship evolves. Colin is alone with his bulldog widget (I can’t even spell her pompous first name, but widget fits) with a critical medical issue (liver failure due to hep c) after having been ostracized from his family, and James is just there to help out. This is a - to some extent by necessity - a slow burn as these two really develop their relationship above all else. It’s almost like everyone else knows they’re in a relationship before they do. But Colin gets a family (and a liver) and these two get their HEA. For the record, five stars for the portrayal of the medical issue. Overall quite realistic so didn’t detract for me at all.

What can I say that will let you know how I feel when two of the sweetest characters I've ever read come together? I thought this book was fantabulous! yep, that's the word to describe this story... FANTABULOUS!  I can count on certain things when reading a Gabbi Grey story. There will be some amount of angst. There will be some amount of trauma. There will be visits from either old friends (what I call the cameo appearances from characters from other books) or familiar places, truly, I want to have all of her characters as neighbors and friends! There will be characters that are respectful of the environment. There's probably going to be a dog or cat somewhere and most of all there is love. This story has all of that.

I meant it when I said that there were some of the sweetest characters I've ever read (there's actually more than two, but the MCs are my main focus for this review.)

Colin is a character that you are going to want to hug and protect. He's got some really big things going on health wise as well as emotionally. Gabbi really brought my feels front and center with him. Have you ever wanted to travel into the story you're reading and kick some major butt because of the way someone was being treated? I totally did right here with the way his family treated him. Thank goodness he found James.

James had his own stuff to go through, but he didn't ever have to worry about being loved. He is almost suffocated by the love of his family. I adore his family and the way they are freely sharing of that familial love to anyone else that might be in need of it. But man, is he ever a sweetheart.

I found that the dialogue between James and Collin was some of the best I've read. It flowed effortlessly. Seriously, it is flawless! I could have listened to (or read in this case) these two guys talk together for ages and not been bored. I really hope that it is available as an audiobook soon because I'm dying to hear them talk together.

I have to mention WIdget. Such a good girl with her own set of problems just melted my heart. It is always a good idea to look at taking on a pet like having a baby. They have needs and wants and they need their owner to take the time to train them. They also need their owner to know before hand that pets are expensive. Even a healthy pet needs regular check ups and shots and dental care, etc. It takes a special kind of someone to go the extra mile for a high maintenance pet and Widget got so lucky in having two someone's to love and care for her.

The secondary characters are amazing. Everyone from James' brothers and sisters to his bestie Arthur need to have their stories told.

I highly recommend this book.

This MM romance was bittersweet as it featured one young man, James, happy to be on his own after managing to finally leave the loving arms of his large family and another, Colin, who faces the possibility of a liver transplant if the meds he’s taking can get the Hep C out of his system before it’s too late for that. Colin has no family support, having been kicked out along with his “defective” puppy. Because of his illness, the story is light on sex and heavy on relationship-building and loving on Colin’s little French bulldog. Add in enough angst for Colin’s situation and one would think the tone would be dark, but it was not at all. Theirs was a gentle sort of love, sneaking up on them, moving into their unguarded hearts, and taking hold without notice. Add in the care for Widget, the Frenchie puppy, and Colin and James get a good jump start on love.

James is a sweet man who’s not afraid to express his emotions and has a positive outlook on life. His large and loving family was a bit overwhelming, but most lived an hour away so they weren’t in his life everyday now that he has his own little house. He hopes to foster or adopt a cat and is at his best friend’s shelter when he meets Colin and his puppy. Colin has gotten what he considers to be news that he’s terminal—his outlook on life is more negative than James’s. He’s concerned for his pup, who has allergies and other health issues and was as unwanted by his family as Colin was. He thinks the dog may be better off with someone else. James jumps in with an offer to help Colin by walking Widget, the pup, to allow Colin to keep up his strength and, with that offer, both men start on a new life path.

I’d like to say this was slow-burn but in reality it was insta-love because in only a few short weeks, the men were living together, had spent Thanksgiving with James’s family, and were planning for Colin’s future transplant. James refused to be negative about their outlook and dragged Colin reluctantly along on the path to Colin’s recovery. With Colin’s Hep C diagnosis, the author showed how powerful the disease is and how contagious so the men were respectful of the chance of transmission and grew to love each other without the bed-hopping we often see in a romance book.

The secondary cast of characters was important to this story as so many offered emotional support to both men. The author also introduced other characters who may be in future stories in this world of Gaynor Beach, California. I’m looking forward to revisiting the town and all its residents. At over 300 pages, this book is not one that can be read in an afternoon on the beach but it is one that is a sweet comfort read to pick up after a hectic day.

Fabulous Story & Narration🎧Consuming & Heartwarming!

Love Furever
Friends of Gaynor Beach Animal Rescue, Book 1
By: Gabbi Grey
Narrated by: Michael Ferraiuolo

This is a wonderful start to an amazing new series written by Gabbi Grey, a series set in Gaynor Beach, one of my favorite places to visit and spend time in. The first book is James’ and Colin’s story, and it is a story that captivates your attention and tugs at your heartstrings the entire time. James’ friend Arthur is an avid animal rescuer and they discuss fostering pets, though James is thinking more on the line of kittens, thinking they would be easier. Colin and his parent’s rejected dog, Chambord, leave New York and his toxic family behind and head to Gaynor Beach for a fresh start. Chambord was a good cross country companion, despite having some health issues, something Colin has experience with, and he realizes that caring for all of Chambord’s needs may be more than he could handle so after he arrives at Gaynor Beach he talks to an animal rescuer, Arthur, about giving her up for adoption to a family who can take care of all her needs. Arthur, knowing Colin only has Chambord’s best interest in heart, comes up with another idea, having someone help him and he knows the perfect person for the job, James. James, who is caring and has a heart of gold, was the perfect solution for Colin and his French Bulldog, who they wind up renaming to a more suitable name, Widget. I thought Colin and James were great together and for each other, and for Widget, too. I loved all the layers of this story and how it all played out, with the perfect balance of drama, heartwarming moments, heartfelt emotions, and a slow burn but so worth the wait romance. As always, Gabbi Grey’s writing, plot and world building are incredible, as are the character growth and development. Thank you for another wonderful story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 Michael Ferraiuolo is the perfect narrator to bring these characters to life and does some with a complete understanding of who he is portraying, giving each a voice that is fitting. I love how he is a natural in each role, sounding believable and just as I imagined they would sound. He nails it in both lead roles, grasping every aspect of their personalities, James’s sweet and caring side and Colin’s insecurities as he battles his health issues. And he was just as amazing performing the roles of the secondary/side characters too. He set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling them all. Ferraiuolo is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another amazing listen.

To be honest this was a tough book for me. And yes, it's something very personal.
Never thought that would be the illness that was mentioned because otherwise I'd have given this a pass. But like I said that is totally a me thing and in no way the fault of the book.

I've read the Gaynor Beach series which this is a spin-off from and the cover suggested me a cute, fluffy lovestory with the addition of a sweet doggy.
But this is not what we get. It's so much more.
It's the story of Colin, who is gay, life-altering and threatening ill and was rejected by his family for both of those reasons and now he's trying to survive and find new joy and love as well as a purpose in Gaynor Beach.

The story itself was entertaining but intense as well as sometimes heartbreaking and emotional.
With our friend having lost the battle so recently it all hit even more home and had me on the verge of tears sometimes. There was so much I could relate to. And I really just wanted to hug Colin and tell him that he had to be strong and needed to get better because he was needed by both Widget & James.

The characters itself were well developed and likeable. But hands down, Widget stole the show. ;)

I loved the slow burn and how easily those two fell into a friendship that developed to more over time.
And I really was so happy for Colin that he more or less 'found a new family', one who would be by his side while he was going through this difficulties and his illness.

I really was hoping for the best for Colin but knowing the reality dampened my believing in a HEA a bit.
But we are definitely left with a hopeful and promising future for those two.

I was entertained while reading it and even if it was a harder book for me this was well worth my time and the heartache I felt.

I have recived a complimentary copy but this is my honest and willingly given opinion.

3.5 - This review primarily addresses the audiobook, narrated by Michael Ferraiuolo. I have now listened to a number of books by this narrator and once more, this is a wonderful performance. The voices are distinct and the emotion is very well portrayed. I definitely enjoyed listening to this book and the narrator elevated the story for me.

I had read the books by this author in the Single Dads of Gaynor Beach series and so was interested in this spinoff series. James finally moves out of his family home and into his own place, not far from his BFF Arthur, who runs an animal rescue. Arthur suggests to James that he could try out fostering a pet, so James fosters Widget, a Frenchie who belongs to Colin. Colin recently left everything and everyone he knows to move to Gaynor Beach - he was outed at home when he found out that he had an advanced medical condition. He could barely take care of himself - how he could he also take care of his beloved Widget? Instead of giving Widget up completely, he is able to foster her with James and over time, they get to know one another and develop feelings. Unlike the earlier series where the MCs develop love within a week or two of knowing one another (yet it seems slower because of the depth of the stories, so do check them out), this one has a lot of time jumps and a very slow burn, which is appropriate, given the seriousness of Colin's illness. This is a very emotional read and I am such a sap - of course I had tears. Having said that, I didn't quite connect to this story as much as I did to the Single Dads series, but this is probably an "It's me, not you" thing, but I was just a bit overwhelmed with James' fmaily, the illness, Colin's situation, etc - there was just a lot. However, I still cheered the development of the sweet romance between James and Colin, and I'm glad they got their HEA, especially with the cutie pie Widget. I always keep coming back to this author's works and look forward to the next book.

I received a complimentary copy and am leaving this review voluntarily.

A Love Story . . .

This story really pulls on the heartstrings as we get to know the characters. Colin has been dumped by his family, but he and his sweet little French bulldog Widget have found a much better place for them to be. But his world will be rocked again when he is diagnosed with HepC and may not survive the damage to his liver. He knows what to expect and will need all his strength to get through this, if that is even possible. So he needs to find Widget a loving home and someone who can accept her and her particular health issues. He goes to Animal Rescue to see what he can arrange.

James comes from a huge family who are very caring. Now that he is living by himself, he decides to go to the Animal Rescue to choose a feline companion to share his home. James’ best friend Arthur introduces him to Colin and he learns of Colin’s situation. Rather than see him give up Widget, James offers to help with her care while Colin concentrates on getting through this difficult time. James also recognizes that Colin should not be alone through this ordeal he faces. And of course when James invites Colin to go with him for a visit because he misses his family, everyone in that huge loving family is quick to accept Colin and Widget into their lives. With all of that love and support, will Colin make it through the ordeal? Will they realize that neither of them want to walk away from each other?

There were so many beautiful things going on throughout this story line, even among the difficult situations. The story gives us hope and fills our hearts with love and caring for others. And any story with a dog already makes us susceptible to emotional overload in the best of ways. It’s a scary journey when health is in jeopardy, but love and support is felt every step of the way. Don’t miss this one!

This is a very sweet tale of two young men lucky enough to meet their person in a small California town that is welcoming to gay men. Colin has just driven cross country, fleeing a family who has never shown him love and considers him defective. He is ill, suffering with Hepatitus C, but leaves all of that behind with just the unwanted French bulldog puppy he rescued from his family. Not sure where to go other than as far west as he can get away from them, he settles in Gaynor Beach.

Due to his health issues and extreme fatigue, plus facing a surgery with a long recovery time, Colin decides to relinquish the puppy to a local animal rescue. The rescue owner has no more room but suggests a foster situation where someone could come 2 or 3 times a day to take the puppy on walks and help out, and he has just the candidate.

James is also fairly new to Gaynor Beach, works from home, and has time to help out. Thus starts a slow developing friendship that quickly becomes a relationship. James has a huge, loving family who quickly adopt Colin into it, the found family that gives him the love, support, and acceptance he never had from his own. The way Colin was accepted into James’s family and the unexpected support he was shown, brought more than one tear to my eyes. Working together, both recognize their person as they navigate the hope and uncertainties of Colin’s medical challenges, ready to build a life together as they co-parent their puppy, Widget ( AKA Chambord).

Lovable main characters plus the wonderful found family that accepts Colin makes for a heartwarming story of insecurity, fear, hope, giving back, acceptance, and a lasting love in this quirky California town.

I received a free copy. This review is submitted voluntarily.

James is a cybersecurity guy who has been convinced by his friend Arthur to foster a pet. He decided he wanted to have a kitten. Colin is from a wealthy family in New York who has been rejected by his family because he’s gay and has hepatitis C. He is travelling with Chambord, his French bulldog puppy who was also rejected by Colin’s family because she had health problems. On arrival in Gaynor Beach, California, Colin meets Arthur who has invited James to perhaps help Colin take care of Chambord (whom they rename Wicket because the name Chambord was far to hoity toity) and he agrees. In fact, he accompanies Arthur to the pet store and pays for the supplies they pick up there. Colin must overcome his negative view of his life with James’ help (as well as James’ family) and undergo a liver transplant on their way to a happy ending.

This is a great character study of two men who aren’t really sure where their lives will take them, particularly Colin who is suffering from a nasty illness that he contracted because of a lack of caution due to not coming out to his family. James has fairly recently moved to Gaynor Beach, into a one-bedroom and den house so he avoids visits by his family. We see James regain his huge family and Colin be accepted as a member of that family. Both men emerge as generous characters. I really enjoyed both. The secondary characters, who are very numerous, are fun and make substantial contributions to plot development. The storyline is very straightforward with few diversions, all of which are important to the plot.

I can happily recommend this book to all lovers of the genre.

The author hit it out of the park for me.
As sonmeone who knows what it is to live with chronic illnesses themself and know others who have those I could relate to Colin and his woes about treatment options, angst, realism and do you want to depend on others for things.
I just love that James comes in Colin his live to help with Widget, the dog. However he and Colin develop a strong connection.

James moved out of his very full and loving home in his own home.
James is demi, thanks brother Danny he realizes that. I like that this book is kind of a slower burn and men being creative to show love to each other.
For me the boisterous and overflowing with love family of James 'adopts' Colin. One of the members of that family goes even further, and other initiated that as well.
I have to settle your mind and let you know that Colin, does get better but actually in a realistic timeframe.
After listening to this one I had to get Danny and Rob their book, who are side characters in this one, to find out what live has in store for them.
Now I only need (to find) a story about Arthur with a love or maybe a story about him and all his animals.

Triggers might apply for others especually on the liver decease, (liver) transplantation, unethical doctor(mention of), family who disowns an adult son (mention of), teenager being forced of tbeir home at 16 (mention of), partner abuse (mention of)

Audiobook:
Michael Ferraiuolo brings all the right emotions in his voicing throughout. As alnost expected he kept me n connection with the captivating storyline very much engaged. And before you know it hours have gone by.

Colin and James's story is one of a sweet romance but packed with emotion when it comes to Colin's medical issues and his family.
My heart immediately went out to Colin with everything that he goes through. The discovery of his illness and his family's of his sexuality, and how that comes about, is heartbreaking and an intense time. With so much to deal with and how weak he's become, he wants to put Widget's care first and so considers giving her up. James is brought in by a friend to help care for the dog but it brings them both so much more than they could have hoped for. There's an instant connection between them, James wanting to help and care for Colin, when he accepts the help, and just being around him makes him happy. The two make a sweet couple and it's a slow burn romance for obvious reasons as well as mostly low heat. Whilst Colin's family are absolutely awful and we luckily don't actually interact with them, James's is the complete opposite - huge, loud, nosy and loving. It's astounding to have soany people interact with very few arguments but they soon envelop Colin as one of their own and it's wonderful to read.
I really enjoyed this story. Though there are some tough moments, it has happiness, hope and all the love for an adorable little dog who is the one who actually brings the couple together. I look forward to reading more from this series, I especially need to read more on Arthur, Rob and Danny.
*Content warning for medical talk, transplant, Hep C, homophobic family*
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

Love Furever is the first book in the Friends of Gaynor Beach Animal Rescue series by Gabbi Grey. It is a wonderfully sweet, slow burn MM romance that, to put it simply, gave me all the feels and the warm fuzzies. I adored this book.

Colin is down on his luck - coming out that he is gay, and then discovering that he has a devastating health diagnosis that threatens his life was not something he expected to happen at once. He leaves New York and moves to Gaynor Beach, outside of LA, where he has found a good specialist for his medical treatment. With him is the puppy that his disgustingly wealthy and powerful family rejected when they rejected Colin.

James comes into Colin's life as a favour to a friend who runs an animal rescue. James is a successful businessman with big, crazy but totally amazing and supportive family. He doesn't have a partner for the HEA he wants, and getting involved with his friend's animal rescue seems to be a step into reinvigorating his life. He was first only meant to help Colin with his puppy so that he could keep the beloved critter instead of giving him to the rescue, but James and Colin start developing a deep friendship, that is beyond companionship and a wonderful romance.

If you're a fan of slow burns, sweet devotion, found families and adorable puppies, then I recommend this book to you.

Colin moves to Gaynor Beach from New York after his family express their disdain for him and his dog. He has Hepatitis C, and with also being gay, his family judge him and want nothing to do with him.

Being ill, he seeks help for his puppy, and through Arthur, who runs a shelter, he meets James. James has just left his family home to live on his own, and loves animals. He knows little about dogs, but is willing to walk Widget and attend training sessions.

As the two men share their hopes and Colin reveals his illness and possible death, James sees he could use some support. He begins hanging out and making meals, working from Colin’s place, and encouraging him when he’s tired and low.

Their attraction seems to be impossible to pursue, but James introduces him to his big, caring family, and Colin becomes more hopeful. A shared kiss begins a new phase in their relationship, and once Colin’s infection clears, they commit to sticking it through everything together.

Colin is put on a liver tansplant list, and due to his previous financial success, helps out in many ways in the community.

This unusual plot brings the realities of illness and lack of support some people face, but there’s a lot of feel good in the book to not make it too heavy.

It’s a bit unbelievable at first how much James does for Colin, but things seem natural once they share their feelings.

I received this ARC for free, and am giving it my honest review with thanks.

2.5 stars, rounded down

Let me start by saying that I really wanted to love this book. I don’t usually request ARCs by authors don’t know, especially in the romance genre…but I made an exception for this book because of the puppy factor. I love dogs to bits and any book where MCs meet because of a love for dogs, I will give a try.

But this one was just…bland and boring. I think it was meant to be soft and sweet, but somehow the author didn’t hit the spot. Nothing really happens in the book, which is usually fine with me. In fact, I love cozy books in which nothing happens except the characters befriending/loving each other (like We Could Be So Good by Cat Sebastian). This one had all the makings of such a book but just fell flat for me. One of the MCs had been kicked out of his family and was also severely ill but I didn’t really feel anything about that. The other one had a loving, chaotic family, which could have been a nice contrast, except I was only told about the chaos and never actually *shown* it. There was no chemistry between the characters and the whole found family aspect, which I love, was also just bland here. I found myself flicking through pages and waiting for the book to end after a point, which is not a good sign.

Ending my review by saying that the book could have been about 200 pages shorter and I wouldn’t have noticed. I also wouldn’t have wanted more. Now excuse me while I go look for a more exciting read.

Colin was diagnosed with a disease. His family consider him damaged. They made their displeasure known that one month after his diagnosis he leaves home and takes the family dog, who is also considered defective, with him. He heads to California.
James has lived in California is whole life. At 27 he is finally leaving the family nest. He bought himself a small place. His friend,Arthur, is visiting and they're talking about adopting animals. His friend fosters animals and tells James he's not sure he is ready for all the responsibility.
Colin and James meet when his friend,Arthur, calls him to talk to him about fostering a dog. Colin is ill and may need to get rid of his dog. He's grown to love the animal and is heartbroken. Then he's told maybe fostering will help. That way he can keep his dog but have help that he will need over the next few months, or longer.
What surprises the two of them is how each is drawn to the other. James doesn't usually go for a ginger. Colin doesn't go for the financial business look. They are opposite in traits but both have good hearts. Will he survive till he has surgery? Will they become a couple if he survives it?
This is such a poignant story of two different people but who bond over a dog. They see each other's inner light and that is what draws them together. Be prepared for a tear of more.

4/5 This was an entertaining read full of lots of emotions. James and Colin come from very different backgrounds but are exactly what the other person needs, and it was lovely to see them settle together and be so much happier than they were—even with Colin’s illness looming.

There were occasionally spots where it felt to me like James was being a bit *too* pushy with his positive attitude. Knowing that Colin’s at risk for depression, I think a positive outlook is generally good. But James sometimes seemed to totally dismiss all of Colin’s concerns in a way that didn’t feel very healthy to me. (For example, maybe addressing it and dealing with things like wills is actually a way for Colin to de-stress and stay positive because he’s doing what he can to prepare for all scenarios.) This didn’t happen too often, fortunately, but I would have felt more depth to their relationship if James supported him in their fears and worries in a way other than always dismissing them.

Widget is adorable, and I loved how much care went into making sure she was cared for. I enjoyed James’ family and the surrounding friends and neighbours. I liked some of the hints about future relationships for those around them. This is a group of kind, caring people who take care of those they care about (and complete strangers), and that was really nice to see.

I received an ARC from GRR. This is my honest review.

Love Furever by Gabbi Grey is a heartfelt and touching romance that centres around themes of new beginnings, found family, and unconditional love. The story follows Colin, who moves to Gaynor Beach, California, with his French bulldog puppy, Widget, after being rejected by his family. Colin faces a devastating diagnosis that makes it difficult for him to care for Widget, leading him to consider putting her up for adoption.

Enter James, who has always wanted a pet but never had the chance due to family circumstances. When James meets Colin and Widget, he offers to foster the puppy and support Colin through his health crisis. As they spend more time together, a slow-burn romance develops between them, filled with emotional depth and genuine connection.

Gabbi Grey does an excellent job of developing the characters and their relationship, making you feel invested in their journey. The story is well-crafted with emotional storytelling, and intimacy of the sweet, slow-burn romance that unfolds.

The audio version is narrated by Michael Ferraiuolo and he does his magic bringing the characters to life. Michael’s narration adds further emotional depth through his acting, making Love Furever a truly wonderful experience.

Love Furever is a romance with a focus on personal growth, resilience, and the healing power of love, whether you read or listen, It's a story that will leave you with all the warm fuzzies and a smile on your face.

(Audiobook overall/Story: 3 stars; Performance: 5 stars)

This story was an ok one for me... made all the better by the always fantastic narrator Michael Ferraiuolo. (Full disclosure: Seeing his name listed as the narrator was my main motivation for I wanting to give this one a listen, as I'm not big on pet-centric stories.)

The storyline has some depth to it, as Colin is dealing with a serious medical issue that impacts his life and his relationship with James, and is a major element of the storyline. ($po!ler: It's all happy health news in the end.) Both MCs are likeable, and their relationship is very much a friends-to-lovers scenario of sorts (more like a sort of pet caregiver to friends to lovers dynamic) and there's health concern barriers to them getting too physical for most of the book. At one point, if I recall correctly, James self-identifies as demi, which does track with how his feelings toward Colin evolve.

In sum, if you love pet-centric stories, small-town romances, low spice, and MC demi rep, this story may be your jam. As always, Michael Ferraiuolo doesn't disappoint, which brought the audiobook up a notch for me.

This is the second "A Friends at Gaynor Beach Animal Rescue Romance" audiobook I've listened to, and apparently I listened to them out of order but that didn't really impact much of anything here. This story works pretty well as a standalone.

Colin and James are both changing their lives. For James, it means moving out of his parents’ home and into his own. He now has an opportunity to get that pet if he wants. Colin’s situation is completely different. When he became sick, his family learned he is gay and they rejected him. He left home taking the new puppy with him. Widget had her own problems and was not as perfect as his family wanted. He landed in Gaynor Beach and realizes he does not have the energy to care for a puppy. James’s friend Arthur calls him to help Colin. James does not feel he should lose his puppy and agrees to help.

This is a story of unexpected love, acceptance by a found family, and a beautiful puppy to pull them all together. Colin and James did not expect to find love but it arrived over their shared responsibility and love for Widget. James’s family had no problem taking him in as one of theirs. In fact, they helped just as they would their own. Afterall, he was a new brother and son for them to love. In spite of the major issues in this story, it is uplifting and will leave you with a smile. Dogs, love and family – what more could you ask for?
