If you like all array of paranormal creatures at odds and a mortal, 20-something, woman who is thrust forward as the potential solution to a long cast prophecy, then you may like this book.

The story and premise was really good. I liked the bait and switch that took place with the factions and the ending had me running to get book two.

It was a tiny bit spicy, and relationships were slightly rushed, but overall the story telling was good.

Audiobook? Good narration!

4.5 yes! Malik and Kylie?? That tension! I was on a dang rollercoaster of emotions. I’m usually not into the vampire trope but yesssss! Also the world building? Well written and necessary for a book one!

A wonderful romantacy book.

I absolutely loved the characters. The fmc, Kylin is an absolute queen with top tier humour. Her character development was also great in this book. It felt like you lived the events of the book with her, and she is very relatable.

Also, the love interest is great. I loved their dynamic.

Another thing I really liked was the pace of the book and all of the secondary characters.

If you liked Throne of glass and A court of thorns and roses, you are going to really enjoy this story.

I can’t wait for the next book!

This book was so good!!!! It has vampires, elves, dragons, romance, battles, and suspense.

Kylin grows up being told that all vampires are evil and they want to kill all the mortals. While on vacation she meets Malik and they develop feelings for one another. Kylin is strong and is always doing what she can to protect others.

Kylin gets taken and her whole belief system she now questions. She gets thrust into a century old feud between the Elve King and the Vampire King. She can't tell who is telling the truth until it may be to late.

I really liked the world building and character development through out the book. I really felt like I was going through what Kylin was while reading this book. Kylin and Malik have great chemistry and I can't wait to read the second book. Hoping to see if more develops between Emilie and Nick.

Thank you S.P. Woods for this book for an honest review can't wait to start the second one.

SO GOOD! I loved this book. From start to finish, absolutely captivating. It was so well written, everything flowed, the descriptions and explanations to lay out this story were so well done.

The romance is so wholesome. There was not a tone of spice but this book was so well written that it seemed to have just the right amount to have your heart rate going.

I did not what this book to end and I cannot wait unless the next book comes out. Maybe something more with Emilie…

This book starts off right where the last ended.

I enjoyed Kylin's character development in this book. You can see her grow into a warrior who is not willing to back down from her beliefs. She had quickly become the spokesperson for the mortals, and you can see this weighing heavily on her shoulders. She is still unsure of her feelings on the two men in her life. I love both of them and can see great qualities in each of them. The spice was amped up a notch in this one, and I loved it!

The ending was an emotional roller coaster mixed with sadness, but also happiness! This is not the end! We are definitely going to have more in this series. I am so happy to have found this series, I cannot wait to see what comes next!

Marriage of Convenience. Verified Consent. Vampires. Dragons. Elves.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book so much!
The plot was really engaging, well written and featured a beautiful, curvy, and fierce heroine.
From the very beginning, I was really intrigued and the further I got the more entangled I became in the story. With each page, the plot thickened and unraveled the truth behind so many lies and deceptions. I felt the pace was set well throughout.
The main dynamic relationship is so wholesome and really made me cheer them on. Kylin (FMC) is so determined to protect her people, she will stop at nothing to make sure her family and those around her are safe and well taken care of.
Fantastic read and I look forward to reading the rest of the series when it comes out.

A story of love, longing and breaking through deeply ingrained misconceptions. A mortal Queen is a fantasy novel that feels like you are walking through the snow or swooning for a handsome vampire right beside the main character.
I cannot tell you how many times I got butterflies while reading the love interest interactions and to avoid spoilers, you will simply have to read it yourself if you want to experience the same giggles. I had the pleasure of reading A Mortal Queen while it was still in its infancy and got to re-read it as a bonified published novel. I am here to say I am so proud of Woods for producing not only a captivation story, but of pouring hours of work into creating A Mortal Queen.
Eagerly awaiting book 2!

Could have been a really good story but the pacing was wonky and I didn’t really connect with any of the characters cause I feel like we didn’t get enough info about who they were. Idk not my thing.

After reading this book I can say it is going to be one of my new favorite series, and I cannot WAIT for the next book! I really appreciate the fast pace of the story - it gives you enough to understand the set, setting and situations but moves on to the next thing before you have time to get bored.

I loved that Kylin has quirks and flaws like a real person and I felt connected to her struggles throughout the rollercoaster of emotion she's subjected to throughout the story.

To keep it spoiler-free; the fantasy world is engaging and pulls you in, the characters are all unique and interesting in their own ways, and the romance scenes will DEFINITELY have you going back and re-reading them a few times over. Do yourself a huge favor and READ THIS BOOK!

"Whatever this is? Kylin, You are mine."

I think that this was a great debut novel! I listened to audiobook and loved it! Perfect for Romantasy lovers.

The Female main character was likeable and I loved that she would do anything for the people she loves!
The writing was well paced and the plot kept me engaged. Great side characters and settings, I found it descriptive and interesting. I am a sucker (pun intended) for a Vamp love interest and he did not disappoint!

The narration was great on the audiobook also!  Overall this is such a good debut novel, I can't wait to read the next book and see what else S.P Woods writes!

Debut novel

Despite being a debut novel, I feel it was well written and it was easy to follow along.
There is a good valance between world buidling, fantasy, and romance. It is timed well. It also has several open doors that I hope we get to explore in books to come.
What I enjoyed the most was the not so typical take on Dragons, vampires, werewolves, elves and a world where they interact with mortals.
I did not know the author is a fellow Coloradoan but the book from the beginning has a very Colorado feel to it and I believe above all it is why I enjoyed it. The soul of this book is something I could see in one of the many trails I love to explore.

LOVED this book. The only reason I gave the book 4 out of the 5 stars is because the MC does not seem to have much of a backbone. She will say she cares about something but will not speak up about it or say the plan that she forms in her head. I would love for the MC to say her plans and have her be the "hero" or "villain" depending on what side you read it from. My favorite part and the part I enjoyed the banter between the MC and her love interest.

It’s hard to give a proper review without spoiling anything. I felt it was a little slow to start but I was hooked from the night of the festival through the end of the book! Kaylin was a great FMC, a bit of a Tom boy outcast but with a sincere heart that wanted only to improve the lives of her people. I loved the history with the mortals, vampires, werewolves, witches and elven people and learning the true natures of King Malik and King Helion! The camaraderie and friendships, the loyalty and love right down to the battles, this book has it all. The way this book ends makes it seem that a sequel is coming and I’m here for it!! This book was an advanced reader copy ARC.

I quite liked this story including elves, vampires and humans.

It started up innocent and then it just turned unrealistic with how fast the feelings developed. Also, a bit predictable.

The main character, Kylin, feels too insecure somehow and then all of a sudden she gets brave enough to kill someone. That scene, when Kylin is rescued from those who've stolen her, is the best part.

This could have been epic according to me but something is missing. It's still good and I'm curious to see where the story goes from here.

This book has so much potential but it just didn't hit with me. I found the FMC to be down right annoying. She just is so naive. I read to the end to see if it would get better and it just didn't.

i wish this had more of an actual plot outside of the romance. romance is literally my favorite genre so i assure you, i don’t mind books that focus on the romance, but if they do then the romance needs to have substance and be compelling enough to carry an entire book and that simply wasn’t the case here. it was just insta love and lust; i don’t understand why they like each other when they’ve barely had a single real conversation. this was an easy read but i won't be continuing the series.

Stolen - A Mortal Queen S.P Woods

⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3 star read

Distinctly average. Spoiler warning

Stolen follows the story of Kylin, a mortal gal, who seems to attract the attention of very high powered mystical creatures.

Whilst out wandering Kylin, runs into Theo, a devastatingly handsome and mysterious man who she has an instant connection with. Unfortunately *shock* Theo is not what he appears to be and drama unfolds.

The main character irked me in ways I didn’t even know she could. Her naïveté and gullibility drove me insane. She was willing to believe everyone around her except those who were telling her the truth and constantly got in her own way creating unnecessary drama and conflict for those around her.

The writing in this book was mediocre. The book contained a few typos which annoyed me. Beyond that, the characters were poorly developed and the romance subplot was poorly explored. Things went from zero to I would die for you in 0.2 seconds and whilst I understand that everyone loves a romantasy these days it felt too forced, too quick and not enough of a sizzle.

The two main characters had the same chemistry as a flat bottle of Diet Coke. Whilst the author made attempts to show that they had some sort of magical instant attraction it just fell flat.

The main character herself, whilst being naïve, was also yet again another poor female who attracted some all powerful magical man and perhaps it’s just me but I’m a little sick of reading all about damsels in distress in these fantasy/romantasy books. Where are the kick ass FMCs who show no mercy and are the masters of their own fate. I’ll take a badass FMC like Aelin from TOG anyday over a poor helpless soul like Kylin.

Interestingly the author tried to take a unique slant on the FMC by making her “curvy” but apart from a couple of quick references to standard clothes being too tight on her curves this didn’t feature heavily so just felt like lip service to the body brigade and fake body positivity.

Had so much potential, but this book was a struggle for me. The storyline could have been interesting but there was a lot of telling not showing, and I found myself wishing for more vivid description and less narration through boring dialogue. The main character is immature and fairly insufferable—I truly never understood why the MMC was so obsessed. The plot either moves too slowly or way too fast and there are many decisions made that make no logical sense.

Beyond the issues with the characters and storyline was the actual writing. It felt…. lacking. The random jumps from past to present tense in the middle of a sentence, typos galore, and the lackluster dialogue felt unpolished.

I’ll read the sequel because I’m truly interested to see if this series can redeem itself.

Edit: DNF book 2. Writing was just as bad. Maybe worse.

I see it is clichée-o-clock again.
That is all you get in this one. One tired and shallow clichée after another.
It's the very basic vampire king story I have read hundreds of times before.
The MC is initially presented as somewhat feistry and resilient but it doesn't take long for her to turn into a pushover doormat.
Other reviews call the MC naive in an affectionate way. I don't agree. The difference between naivety and stupidity is that the first is just a lack of experience and the second is a lack of brain power. This is very much a case of the latter. She is just simply stupid.
This entire story is entirely focused on how the MC feels about the vampire king and how she is drawn to him, pines after him, how her body betrays her bla bla bla. Did I mention this book is full of shallow clichées?
A common story can nonetheless be enoyable if it is told in an interesting and emotionally gripping way.
But this doesn't apply here either. The writing isn't terrible but it is average and bland, nothing that would facilitate immersion or investment.
There is no spin to the story and neither is there a single character that has any depth whatsoever. The entire cast is as shallow as a puddle and so is the world building.
It isn't terrible per se but it's just an assembly of a whole lot of common tropes without any originality or any life to it.
There is just nothing in this book that differentiates is from the sea of other books which tell the exact same story, many of which do a better job.
I guess if you are into body-traitor damsel being seduced by the dominating vampire king smut there might be a few entertaining scenes in here. It seems like the sexual tension is the only part that works half-way decently but I didn't get that far.
