Three very important trees grow from tiny seeds borne by the wind to the forest floor. Dick Gackenbach’s lively, colorful illustrations and simple story convey a timely message about the use and protection of our natural resources. “This pleasant nature story should be welcomed by teachers.”-- School Library Journal
Dick Gackenbach, the illustrator of all the Adam Joshua Capers, is also the author-illustrator of more than a score of books of his own. Mr. Gackenbach lives in Washington Depot, Connecticut.
The Mighty tree is a short story that explains the uses and purposes of trees. Gackenbach explains the reproduction process of trees. He then shows and lists different things trees are used for. He lists things such as paper, bags, wrapping paper, hats, candy wrappers and Christmas Tree, and then how a tree can just be a tree to help produce more trees. Great book to use in class, really good illustrated pictures and all the details about the trees life. Great book for Elementary level.
We read this today in line with our Forest of the Trees unit study. This is a good one to read along side the religious The Three Trees story. It too is about three seeds but it's different. It's good for discussing the habitat of trees.
The great story of three trees. All of the trees live out different lives: getting cut down, turned into a Christmas tree, and....you'll have to read to find out what happens to the third tree!
I did a story time about Earth Day and the enviroment. I used the library's Kit for Kits theme : Environment. This book was in the kit. Good book to use for a story time. Lovely large and bright, bold illustrations and easy and short text per pages. Full of good information as well. Lovely little charming read.
