I am a fan of BA Tortuga’s books. I like her characters and there is something about her style of writing that I really enjoy. I admit that I haven’t loved all of her books, but she is still an automatic buy for me, and I always look forward to reading them.

Hollis Lee is a very famous rockabilly singer who is on the verge of becoming an alcoholic and he is possibly on his way to have some major health problems. Since he is on the road more often than not, his life consists of partying all night long, and living off of fast food.

Since his manager is concerned about Hollis’s bad habits and inappropriate behavior, he and the record label decide to take matters in hand and hire a personal trainer/dietitian to get Hollis back on track before his bad choices causes his popularity to slip.

Jeremy Winger couldn’t believe his luck when he was hired to get Hollis Lee back into a healthier lifestyle. Even being warned that Hollis will fight him at every turn, Jeremy is determined to get Hollis back into shape, whether Hollis likes it or not.

Hollis thinks his life has made a turn for the worse when he meets Jeremy. Small in statue, and a whirlwind of energy, Jeremy’s stubbornness to whip him back into shape would be endearing if he didn’t want to strangle the man. After all, how can a man live without eating an Egg McMuffin every once in a while?

Hollis doesn’t know if he wants to strangle Jeremy or kiss him for his efforts. To Hollis, either would be a win-win situation. Jeremy’s presence and Hollis’s unexpected attraction to him could be dire to Hollis’s career. Would being with Jeremy be worth the risk in the end?

I loved the sexual tension between Jeremy and Hollis. The gradual buildup from strangers, to tentative friends, to lovers was fun to watch develop. The banter they have between them was often humorous, and I had several laugh out loud moments when I read this book. I thought the issues Hollis had to deal with should everyone find about his homosexuality and his relationship with Jeremy was quite realistic and well written.

Between the unexpected twist in the book and the sheer stubbornness that both men have to stay together and make their relationship work, made me cheer them on and hope for the ending that they deserved.

It was well worth the wait.

A QUICK NOTE: If you are offended by hot male/male sex this book is not for you. There is also some recreational drug use (pot) that both heroes use together. If you are offended by either of those things, you might want to pass this one up. Otherwise, sit back and enjoy the ride!

Hollis is a country rock star with an image to preserve. He is thirty something and handsome, and maybe fans, especially women one, like him both for his music than for his look. But years of living on the road, and alone, are leaving him on the brink of alcoholism and poor state of health. So his manager hires for him a personal trainer, Jeremy, who will live with him in the bus during the tour.

Jeremy is young and spirit free. He is openly gay and while days pass on tour, he begins to resent the lack of a sexual life. And maybe Hollis can help him with that problem: cause Hollis ia a gay in the closet, his career will be destroy if someone will unveal his secret. But on the bus, Jeremy and Hollis can have all the privacy they need. But the outside world is awaiting them...

Jeremy is a reckless character, easy and happy. He loves sex and after a time, he begin to love also Hollis. But he is not a selfish person, and doesn't want to ruin Hollis' career. He will content himself being the backdoor lover.

Hollis instead is used to be careful all his life. But he really loves Jeremy, and only Jeremy, and he is not willin to give up Jeremy, neither for his career. He is honest and strong. A very positive character.

The story is build like a collection of single short episodes (I think this is one of the Turn of the Screw by Torquere Press, and you can understand that) and it has a lot of sex, enjoyable and easy. A right dose of drama and some conflicts to give some challenge to the couple. In the end a lightheart reading.

Not many romantic partners are a worse match than Hollis, a rock star who loves to live life in the fast lane, and Jeremy, a personal trainer with more principles around food and healthy living than seems healthy. That is – if you look at the surface of these two men interacting and, definitely, when they first meet. But as this tumultuous, chaotic, and very entertaining story unfolds and these two sometimes aggravating men get to know each other better, it becomes clear that there may be far more to their relationship than the professional interactions both intend to stick to. So much, in fact, that some people become intent on keeping them apart…

3.5 stars - I was given a copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

This is a sweet and sexy story about the relationship between a country rock star and the personal trainer hired to get him into shape. Jeremy and Hollis don’t hit it off too well at the start but soon their playful bromance turns into a proper romance. Personally, I loved the friendship between Hollis and Jeremy but I didn’t fully engage with the rest of the story.

There is a whole lotta sex in this story. Maybe too much. By the mid point, it feels constant and kinda repetitive. Three quarters of the way in, I was skimming through some of the sex scenes and my eyes were still tracked repetitive descriptive phrases. After a while, the sex just stopped being sexy and I grew a little bit bored.

It isn’t just the sex that’s repetitive. Hollis and Jeremy spend most of the book stuck on a tour bus together with only themselves for company. The monotony is probably pretty realistic but it doesn’t make for great fiction writing. There are lots of workout scenes but I felt like we could have seen more of Hollis as a musician and a performer.

I found myself a bit confused by the storyline involving Hollis’ manager. I kept waiting for Hollis to stand up to the man or put him in his place. Instead, we get a rock star placating his manager and sneaking around like a naughty teenager on a field trip. It didn’t quite work for me. I also found the ending frustrating and not terribly satisfying.

Opposites attract. Enemies to lovers. The unexpected twist and a bumpy road to a HEA. It’s all here in this book.

Hollis Lee is a country rockabilly star. He’s at the top of his label, and the executives want to keep him there. Problem is, Hollis has been living in his motor home for so long, on tour, that he has started a serious downward spiral of booze, hard living, and junk food. Part of him loves his life: the chicks, the money and the adoration. Part of him, though, is tired of hiding his true self. He’s lonely and doesn’t have a positive outlet for all his pent-up energy, so he takes everything out on those around him. Living the façade of a music star can be exhausting. Right now, with Hollis, if you can’t have a beer with your sausage biscuit in the morning, there is something wrong with you.

Jeremy has worked hard—on his body and his mind—to become the quintessential personal trainer. He’s had some good luck working with other stars, so when he gets the chance to work with Hollis Lee, he jumps at it. Only one look at Hollis’s trailer, and Jeremy knows he has his work cut out for him. He’s been warned that his new client may be grumpy and will most likely be antagonistic toward him, but Jeremy has committed to the record label that he will make Hollis healthy and help save the man’s reputation. Jeremy takes being healthy to an almost unhealthy level, hiding protein powder in grapefruit juice, and vitamins in applesauce. He drives Hollis crazy. Jeremy does have one vice, though, and he and Hollis enjoy that vice on several occasions (I will always associate weed and Doritos now, hands down).

This book starts with witty banter and highly entertaining laugh out loud moments we can all relate to. These two men just love to aggravate each other! The slow pull and yin-yang of two men who hate each other, but are so attracted to each other, is painful. The instigation of life-changing habits and the slow pull of dragging a man onto a better, healthier path are slow and agonizing, but Tortuga makes them entertaining and a pleasure to read. Both of these characters are so incredibly stubborn, each in their own way, that the chemistry when they get together is electric. And “get together” they do. Often. In imaginative ways. But these men have to use that stubbornness to stay together, and the perseverance that they show toward each other and their relationship was surprising and unexpected.

The “twist” that happens was not what I was expecting, and it gave a seriousness to the feel of the book and the relationship that I feel it needed. The accident gives weight to a relationship which up till then could be considered superficial and temporary—from a fun/flirty beginning to a serious twist which takes us to a satisfying ending. I will say that I am not sure that the people conspiring to keep them apart really got what was coming to them, or that what was done to Jeremy was really atoned for. I’m also not sure the timeline worked, maybe because I have an orthopedic background, but what is described in the book and the timeframes given just don’t add up. But putting those misgivings aside, this was a fun read in true BA Tortuga fashion: hot men, lots of hot sex, some good storyline thrown in, and a solid HEA.

I really like this author’s writing style, but I must say her books come out somewhat repetitive. There were way too many sex scenes in this story. It was one right after another. I mean we had one at the end of the book then basically had an epilogue so they could have another one. The story in between the sex was good. I liked both MCs. Jeremy and Hollis were wonderful together. That being said, the author did leave out some crucial information.

Overall, the story was okay. I think the author could have made it better by leaving out about half the sex scenes, but it kept me entertained even though I skimmed a lot.

From that review: "In Living in Fast Forward, BA Tortuga combines a staple of hers,  the troubled country rocker character with a California personal trainer and comes up with a sweet, heartwarming hurt/comfort story that's pretty realistic for the times.  I say that because this is a re-release and unfortunately it feels so true for the current political climate than I would have thought even a couple of years ago."

HEAVY on the Steam!

I haven't read a book with so many sex scenes. This is more like erotica than romance. It was a little too much.

The trope is a good one, but it feels like an HFN than an HEA. There are many loose ends and questions unanswered. It seems the focus was just sex scenes.

HOT and Heavy!

Hollis and Jeremy's story is, well, super sexy. I've really become a fast and furious fan of BA Tortuga. P.S. Why the heck can't people just live n let live?!

Was into it up until they hooked up and then it was downhill from there. From that point onward it was just sex scene after sex scene loosely linked together by cheesy, low budget porn-like scenarios. It's unclear if a few weeks or a full year passes after

One other thing, Hollis called what's-his-name 'baby' something like every other time he spoke. It came off very condescending-greasy-car-salesmanny. I've now developed a total aversion to this term of endearment and hope never to hear it used again for as long as I live.

Okay, so sometimes a particular author just hits all your buttons. There is a lot about B.A. Tortuga's writing that shouldn't work for me, but sometimes the subject is just right and the characters are just so aw-shucks appealing and the sex hovers just on the right side of too-much. I really liked Living in Fast Forward. It was just what I needed during a tense day. Absolutely adorable relationship between a rock star and his personal trainer on a tour bus. Still too much sex, as in all this author's works, but enough of a plot and plenty of skillful charactization to carry the day. Probably one of this author's best. (She does write under several names, right? I'm never quite sure....)

Even if this is an oldie, I didn't read it jet. I admit the start was so funny that it install pulled me into the plot. This story was built around the relationship between Hollis Lee and Charlie, his personal trainer. Their mutual attraction developed from need toward deep love. And the plot was well developed around them and Hollis music career. They were really hot as a couple and really well suited. I liked them a lot. I recommend this book to everyone.

This is the first book I've read by B.A. Tortuga so I'm not sure if the style it was written in is how she normally writes or not. I'm used to more prose than dialogue telling the story, so this required me to put more of myself into the story. I liked the plot, the characters and the sentiments. Lots of sexy scenes throughout. I'm looking forward to reading another to see if the characters tell the story in it.

This writing style was a little difficult for me to get used to. It was a lot like the characters, rough and blunt. What I did like was the sex and boy there was a lot of sex. Actually, this was mostly sex. The whole ook is rough, sexy and kind of dirty. There's not a lot of plot, a lot of rough romance and an unsatisfying ending.

Book was enjoyable. Plot was to easy for my part and nothing much happens. There is a lot of sex action around main couple at last what pulls you reading on. We have happy ending.
