I'm not exactly sure when I fell in love with books. Probably on my mother's knee listening to her read Dr. Seuss to me. I do remember that I was barely old enough to cross the street by myself when I discovered the delights of the local library. Could anything be more wonderful than spending summer days surrounded by stacks of Nancy Drew mysteries? Over the years I fell in love with Victoria Holt, Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, and J.R.R. Tolkien just to name a few. I read poetry, essays, biographies, and plays. In fact, I read anything I could get my hands on.

Years later (no, I'm not admitting how many) I'm still an avid reader, and my tastes are still as varied as they were in my youth, which I suppose helps to explain why I enjoy writing regency historicals under the name of Deborah Raleigh, as well as my contemporary paranormals as Alexandra Ivy. For now that is enough to keep me busy, but who knows what the future might hold!

I do have a few other loves in my life besides reading and writing, the most important being my unbelievably patient husband, David, and my two sons, Chance and Alexander. Without their constant support and belief in me, I never could have been able to follow my dreams. They are truly my heroes.

Enjoying the ongoing storyline and I do think that the individual stories are good and very well written but they are just way too short which doesn't allow the relationship to develop - it is literally a case of them meeting and within less than a handful of days the couples are mated and devoted to each other.......but if you are looking for a quickie that is well written with a great back story throughout the series then this is for you!

OK - I am a little confused. I appreciate that the story is moving along. But have the authors given up on the romance? I really liked Sebastian's story. It was interesting and had some sizzle. A solid 4 stars. But then it ended. I was like WTF? And it is not like it continues into the next story. Sure, Reny made a brief appearance right at the end to drop a bomb, but otherwise - no Sebastian and Reny.

Aristide's story was a joke. I am being generous with 2 stars. Aristide and Katherine were barely in the story. It was much more to do with the overall mystery/suspense and Hiss (who somehow gets his own book much later). I do not think they even mated.

I am starting to feel like I am going to read all of these books and still be waiting for something to happen. What is that called? The train to nowhere?

We did hear news about Ashe/Rafael. But did we get to see anything in person? Of course not! F you to the authors for this! They know why people were holding out! And to not give us ANYTHING was bullshit!

Because I have the box set that includes the next two books and the Christmas novella was free, I am sure I will persevere through these. But I am not spending another penny if they do not start delivering something other than this played out formula.

Sebastian was pretty good but too short and not developed enough. The over arc still going nicely. Reny is an FBI agent and has amnesia of her childhood. I don't see that happening, too much of a security breach. The twist of her origins was good but not developed totally and obviously she is related to the traitor Hiss. Who in the end will be forgiven since he has his own book. 3 stars

Aristide not as good. The woman, Kat, is too much keeping information to oneself even when you have no bargaining power and you realize you are completely wrong. Even being blackmailed, it just didn't jive. And then Hiss being a traitor that just doesn't care when we know that his book is coming... hmm... I might be getting tired of the series. Too much flip flop and forgiveness of the unforgivable. Between 2 and 3 stars

This whole book starts out with a prologue in which Shakpi, in the form of Chayton, is rescued by her loyal follower (we learn who the betrayer is) and escapes. Then a bunch of her followers start making trouble for the Pantera by murdering people to look like panther attacks and directly causing some really bad press for them.

Sebastian - Alexandra Ivy - 3/5 - I’m pretty sure we were introduced to Sebastian way back when in this series. He’s a suit and tasked with being a liaison with the FBI as they investigate these so-called panther attacks. He doesn’t really want to work with FBI Agent Reny Smith, but when he meets her, he changes his mind right quick. He instantly recognizes that Reny is a pantera, but she has no idea what he’s talking about. She has no memory of her childhood and has always been able to do things others couldn’t, but that doesn’t mean she’s a pantera. But it turns out that Sebastian is right and she has to accept her cat in order to bring down Shakpi. This was okay...just average for me really. Didn’t feel the connection between Reny and Sebastian - lust, no problem, more than that, not so much. It was really nice to see Reny come to Sebastian’s rescue, but then she’s a hunter and the Pantera are a fairly egalitarian species in that regard.

Aristide - Laura Wright - 3/5 - I think I liked this one a bit better, maybe because there’s more angst between the couple, but there were a few things I kinda wish the author had played up a bit more to create more angst, but didn’t. Aristide is a nurturer (I take this to mean healer) and ready for a mate and a family, now that his sister mated and moved out. Aristide gets involved with Katherine Burke, a reporter who wrote a very unflattering piece about the Pantera and is now enemy #1 among the hunters who are after her to find out why she wrote it and who she works for. Aristide though more or less claims responsibility for her since he’s head over heels in lust for her. At first, Katherine won’t tell why, but she is quick to trust Aristide and tell him and get herself off the hook with the Pantera. Then, Aristide takes over and heads off to solve the problem so he can get on with being mated to her. The author here could have dragged out the angst between Katherine and Aristide for a bit...he’s hate-lusting for a woman who wrote awful things about his people and he refuses to trust her. And before this can drag out or even really affect anything, she’s telling him the truth and that angst is pretty much over. Then, there’s the potential angst on the horizon, since Aristide has declared that he will only mate a pantera female...which Katherine decidedly is not. But she never really learns of this declaration and while he dithers about it internally, it never really becomes an obstacle to their HEA. So, opportunity for some even better angst was there, but ultimately not followed through with. Still good, but could have been better.

I feel, for me, that this pair was the weakest of the set. also seemed the shortest, took an hour and a half to read both.
still, a good tale, with the hunt for Shapki taking centre stage, and finally the birth of the cub long awaited since book one :-)

I will buy any more that come out, as there is still a lot unfinished.

The plot is moving nicely, the couples' stories are too fast as usual, and for once I preferred Alexandra Ivy's novella.

As always this is just to let you know before reading my review that I write my reviews as I am reading so I don’t forget anything I wanted to say. So please keep that in mind when you reading this and if it seems like I am making any guesses as to what MIGHT happen this is why.

Sebastian by Alexandra Ivy
Book – 7
Okay so the Pantera are continuing their search for Shakpi who has now taken over Chayton’s body to escape her prison under the Pantera’s magical lands. Sebastian has been asked to dispel all the rumors surrounding the Puma attacks along with the help of Reny who has traveled from New York to head this case.

So Reny is in New Orleans waiting to meet up with I’m gathering is Sebastian…but something she says makes me think…HMMM…
Reny told herself that was the cause for the restlessness that had plagued her since her plane had landed two days ago. It didn’t entirely make sense. But it was the best explanation she had for the weird feeling that something inside her was struggling to get out.
I have a feeling Reny is going to be a Pantera…oh…and if so then this should be interesting.
Of course I’m right…but my next thought is what happened to cause her amnesia, AND is Sebastian going to be the one to find out what happened to her…HMMM…

Okay where can I find my own Sebastian?!?!?!

So when did Sebastian forget to NOT be arrogant when dealing with Shakpi’s people?!?!? He KNOWS they have a toxin they use against the Pantera…SMH…when will these men learn to not be so damn cocky and to stop trying to be the hero all the time?
WTH happened with Shakpi? AND WTH was up with Hiss and his reaction to Reny…there is a further story here and dang you two authors for keeping me hanging for more information…LOL.
Also does this now mean Chayton is dead? That was never said in this one…I need to know these things. GAH I really hate cliffhangers in books, but I love them all the same because it keeps me interested in the series.

Aristide by Laura Wright
Book – 8
Oh Aristide…How I missed reading about him, there is something about him I liked him when he was in scenes before it the other books. He so wants what the life of a normal Pantera family but I think fate has a different idea for him. Whether or not he accepts it before it’s too late is another story.

Why doesn’t Kat just tell the truth??? This is going to irritate me, Kat needs to just tell Aristide the truth. Granted I’m not sure what that truth is at the moment…HMMM…
Keira needs to back off though, she should know firsthand what Aristide is going through but she just HAS to be a bitch anyways. Granted I liked her book and she went through hell to get back to the Wildlands but COME ON NOW she could be a little less bitchy about stuff.
Parish obviously wasn’t his usual GRR self but I think it may be because Parish went through the same thing with falling for a human woman…understands better than anyone and seems to be giving Aristide a little slack where Kat is concerned.

WHAT????? I totally did NOT see THAT coming!!!!

I see bad things ahead for Kat especially if she tries to escape…I’m gathering Noah is her son, and Marco her ex but what does Marco have to do with the Pantera? HMMM…

Well I just finished the book, and these were once again a GREAT set of books, I absolutely love how not only these two authors writing styles meld so well together. Not only that but the underlying story that goes on along with the love stories pure genius of these two authors to think up a series like this…I have been a fan since day one of this series and I am liking it even more as it goes on. I’m always excited to read the newest installment in this series even with all the cliffhangers which this one didn’t really have one…but all of my questions above were answered thank God.
If you haven’t read this series you should give it a shot, it has been an amazing series thus far.

Sebastian/Aristide are books seven and eight in the Bayou Heat series. I like this series. It is well written, the characters are well developed, I like the world that has been created for these puma shifters, it's sexy and filled with very alpha males.

The Pantera live in the Bayous of Louisiana. In a place that holds their magic called the Wildlands. But for the last fifty years their lands and their magics have been dying. Their females have been unable to conceive or carry a child. Until a miracle happens. Raphael's human mate, Ashe, is expecting a child. A child that may be the savior to their people. But Shakpi, the evil twin of the goddess who created the Pantera, has been trying to kill the magic and with it the Pantera. Now she needs to end the life of the new baby, to complete her mission.

Sebastian, is a suit, one of the Pantera's diplomats. To ensure the safety of his people, he is forced into the city, to work with a human FBI agent. Someone has been killing humans, making it look like large cats are responsible. Sebastian, knows better. The Pantera cannot shift outside of their Wildlands. So someone is out to cause panic among the humans. And Sebastian knows exactly who is responsible, Shakpi's disciples.

Reny Smith, a new agent with the FBI needs this case to go well, to advance her career. She's finally making something of her life. She has created a new identity for herself, after waking up in a hospital nine years earlier with no idea how she got there or who she was. Now she is forced to work with the Pantera to determine who or what is assaulting people in her city. But when she meets Sebastian, something long dormant in her wakes and she's not sure how to handle what she's feeling. Especially when it comes to Sebastian.

Book eight is Aristide's story. He has always believed he would follow in his parents footsteps by mating with a Pantera female and settling down and raising several cubs. Until he meets the new human waitress at the local bar. Aristide may want a Pantera female, but his cat, wants Katherine. Even after learning she is the reporter writing false stories about the shifters living in the Bayou. But Kat has secrets she cant share with Aristide about the reason she has written those stories. Reasons she will do anything to protect.

After reading Aristide's story, I was a bit confused. I'm not sure whether it was the last book in the series, or if there are more coming. Each story so far has had no conclusion, building toward the big war and the fight for the Pantera. But after finishing this story, there were lots of questions left unanswered. The big war to save their people was more like an after thought in the plot, and the epilogue, really had no new information to pass on. Such a great series, I was disappointed with the ending.

Sebastian by Alexandra Ivy

Sebastian has been charged with finding who is responsible for recent attacks made to look like Pantera killings before the truth of their existence is revealed to the world. He’ll be partnered with Reny Smith, a FBI agent with a mysterious past, a scent that drives him wild, and a secret that will change her life.

Sebastian is as much of a warrior as he is a Suit and as soon as he lays his eyes on Reny, his alpha-ness kicks into high gear and he claims her before she ever realizes it. Reny suffers from amnesia so her whole identity is centered around what she’s made of her FBI career. It’s obvious from the get go what Reny’s secret is but knowing that doesn’t ruin anything I think. There’s immediate chemistry that builds until it explodes into hot, smexy goodness. Just what I’ve come to expect from this series.

The evil goddess Shapki is now on earth and she’s already causing problems for the Pantera. Readers get a peek at her madness and what she’s planning but everything isn’t laid out. This story has less plot and more sex but it works and had me revved up for Aristide.

Aristide by Laura Wright

As I anticipated, there’s more story than sex in Aristide to balance out the books. Aristide is a Nurturer. He wants a mate, kids, the white picket fence but he wants it with a Pantera female so he’s not thrilled when his puma stands up and pays attention to the cute human at a local bar. Katherine’s reasons for posting a hateful article about the Pantera are not what they seem and she’ll need to trust the seductive male that promises her safety in exchange for her trust.

Unlike Sebastian, Ari doesn’t embrace the feelings he has for a human female. He wants a Pantera and he doesn’t know why his puma is giving him such trouble. As one would expect from a book like this, it doesn’t take long for man and cat to come to terms and after that, Katherine doesn’t have a chance. Katherine and Ari’s coupling doesn’t come as easy as Sebastian and Reny’s. The connection is there but it takes some work for them to admit there’s something and I thought it was more sweet than smoldering. It works for their personalities and I love that the big, tough Ari wants nothing more than a family to love and spoil *swoon*.

Shapki may have faced a setback in Sebastian but her followers are making up for lost ground and there’s a betrayal that hits close to home for the Pantera. Things take a tenser turn this time around and it adds more substance to the pair of stories. Alexandra Ivy and Laura Wright make a really good writing team because the way they balance each other out makes for racy, engaging stories that both satisfies and makes you want for more.

"Bayou Heat: Sebastian - Aristide" by Alexandra Ivy and Laura Wright. Books 7 & 8 in this paranormal novella series.

WOW! Loved these two stories! Very fast paced, holding no punches.

The story starts with SEBASTIAN.

Raphael's mate Ashe is about to have her cub, someone is trying to kill her, and now the Pantera have been exposed to the human world. Sebastian as been assigned to work with a human FBI agent as a liaison to the Pantera. But when he meets Reny, she is anything but human. So why is she acting like one? Is she undercover? Or does she really not know that she's Pantera?

Reny has felt different from other people her whole life. Now that she's working with a Pantera (a really sexy one!), she feels like she could finally fit in but she doesn't understand why. Someone is causing trouble between humans and Pantera and it's her and Sebastian's job to find out who...if only she can control this attraction between them.

With a bit of a "who the hell is she?" cliffhanger at the end, the story continues with ARISTIDE.

Aristide is a Nurturer by nature, but he sure as hell doesn't feel like one when he sees the beautiful Katherine. All he wants is to make her his, body and soul. But he can't, she's human. And Aristide has a plan to find a Pantera female and live happily ever after. When he finds out that Katherine may be his enemy, he wants to hate her for hurting his people...but wants to protect her at the same time. But when Ari finds out someone Kat loves is in trouble, he'll move heaven and earth to help her.

Katherine is in trouble. All because she was forced to write a horrible article about the Pantera. Now she's being held by the Pantera as an enemy to their kind. She has to escape, she has to save Noah. But in the Wildlands, a woman (Ashe) is having a baby that someone wants to kill and there is a traitor amoung them and Katherine just may have information that will help the Pantera. Can she trust Aristide? Will he really be able to help her save Noah?

The story ends with an answer to "who the hell is she?" and leaves you antoher mystery and wanting to know more. So much more of the story to be told. More Pantera are introduced along the way and every time I learned about them I wanted to know their story too! I am LOVING this series! Can't freaking wait for the next one!

#7 Sebastian by Alexandra Ivy

Attacks outside of the Wildlands are being blamed on Pantera and Sebastian is tapped to work with FBI agent Reny. Reny woke in a hospital 6 years ago with no memory of her previous life. Sebastian immediately recognizes her as his mate. And almost as quickly they are off and running trying to find out who is helping the evil goddess in her plan to start an interspecies war between the Pantera and humans.

This story is super quick and though the other stories were quick also the romance was believable. Not that it wasn't here there just wasn't enough time to get into it, they literally fell in love in one day. Just too quick and I didn't get to know the characters enough.

The furthering of the story was enjoyable.

#8 Aristide by Laura Wright

Aristide is determined that his future mate will be a Pantera female, but one look at waitress Katherine and his mating instincts start to take over. This is bad not only because she is human but she is also the author of an article about the Pantera portraying them as bloodthirsty killers. Kat would do anything to protect her son who was taken by her ex to force her to write the article.

Aristide is so sexy and tender, he is a to die for hero. Kat was likable but not as developed. Again, the couple pretty much fall in love and mate in a day.

Ashe's baby is born and we also find out that the evil goddess needs the baby's blood in order to fulfill her plot.

The Pantera traitor is discovered though his motivations seem to honest and there is a big twist
at the end.

Bought and read years previously but review I posted from the back of the book is missing.
Do not be expecting a full on, complete characterisation and in-depth series. You will not get it. This is not a deep and fully developed world, you glean bits and pieces as you go along, getting to know more characters and situation as things happen. Each story is a follow on, sometimes with a cliff hanger. So I suggest starting at the beginning to best understand the who’s and what’s of this world.
But it is a fun and intriguing series of short stories that slowly develop into a great read.
7 - SEBASTION
Loved Remy, what a great surprise she was. Sebastian is just arrogant enough to be interesting but I liked how he deferred power to Remy.
A traitor is unveiled and I am sad at who it is. His reasoning I understand but I cannot condone what he plans.
8 - ARISTIDE
Sorry but I couldn’t feel sorry for Kat and her position. Dislike reporters anyway but hurting a whole race of people with lies and stirring up mistrust and hatred when she doesn’t know why, just no.
Believing they would give her son back like they promised. Kidnappers and blackmailers never keep their word.
She never seems to have recanted her lies in future books.
Aristide was too nice for and too her.
The best part of this book was what happens with Hiss and Remy.

This is the fourth in a two-novella series and I have read them all in less than a week. If you need a quick Shifter, Alpha, Paranormal fix, these books are perfect!

In this book you have the two stories Sebastian and Aristide. This book continues the overriding story line that was left hanging (they are always left hanging...) at the end of Xavier's story. Here, we have the evil goddess/sorceress/voodoo priestess Shakpi finally in human form and out to start a war for the Pantera. Her first volley in the war is to start turning humans against the Pantera by framing the Pantera for the "attacks" of human women. If the human population is frightened enough, they will start to attack the Pantera and weaken them enough for Shakpi to make her move. In response, the Pantera have two jobs - to get involved with the law enforcement investigations of the attacks and to put an end to the newspaper reports of the attacks. The two Pantera put on the case are Sebastian and Aristide.

Sebastian and Reny
Reny is an FBI agent delegated to work with Sebastian to help solve some puma attacks. As soon as they meet, it is apparent to Sebastian that Reny is more than he expected and more than even she knows. But then she knows little about herself because of the amnesia she suffers from. I liked her character but I do get tired of the way female officers/agents never seem to have a sense of humour. Sebastian was just kinda ho-hum.
Aristide and Kat
Aristide is a shifter snob. He doesn't date humans and seems to view them as inferior. So why can't he stay away from Kat? Kat is in trouble with the Pantera because of an inflammatory news story she wrote about them. But all Kat wants is to get her son Noah back from the 'bad guys'.
I feel like the authors are starting to write these with their eyes closed. I was just bored listening to the audio. The reader does a good job though. It was all so very predictable and I could even guess much of the next two books to come. I am thoroughly tired of Shokapi (sp?) and her evil minions and it seems like Ash has been pregnant for a century...

These boys may be hunters but when it comes to their women they are protectors, and are seriously possessive but at times they can be big kids, "we." His cat purred. "I like the sound of that." Sebastian I loved him and his cat, "a low growl rumbled in his throat. He wanted to bite that soft flesh. Preferably while he was climaxing, deep inside her, filling her with his seed." Astride he's seriously protective of his woman and clan, "Ashe's cub is well and safe," he said gazing down at her, his puma purring inside his chest. The feel of her against him was making his body roar to life. "And your boy is well and safe, and will never have to fear that monster again." And sometimes Astride has to show Katherine the rules of being a Puma's mate, "you are my female," he said roughly, bending down and scooping her up in his arms. "And I'm taking you to our room and to our bed to make sure you understand that fact."

These two stories in the Pantera series seemed more unfinished in their brevity than previous ones. They were an easy read, too easy, meaning simplistic. Each story left me wanting to know more about the main two characters, and what was happening to previous characters. I found it frustrating and bewildering that such critical plot points as the birth of Ashe's baby and the attack of the assassins happened completely offstage with almost no detail. I felt cheated. Not sure these short novellas are working any longer. The series needs a wider scope and more character and plot development. Wright in her Eternal Hunger series especially, but also Ivy to a lesser extent in her Guardians series, keep past characters a vital part of the their series as they develop. This series and the novella format suffers for that lack of continuity.

1) Sebastian is supposed a professional diplomat, but he’s a jerk to Reny who’s not what she thinks she is. And it doesn't make sense for Reny to be able to go from total amnesia to a competent FBI agent in just 7 years even with the police being her guardians. What about background checks, etc.?

2) Now Aristide is a sweetheart. From the beginning he protects and believes in Kat. Especially once he gets over wanting only a Pantaran female. And Kat is a ferrous dedicated mother. She fits in perfectly with the Pantarans. But we also get the sad story of Hiss.

Quick thought: 1) with all of these couples getting together, where are the babies? Afterall Ashe seemed to get pregnant right away and her babies born already.

Fave Scenes: Book 1) Reny’s arrival in the wildlands. Book 2). Noah riding the puma

I really enjoyed Sebastian and Aristide's books. They seemed a bit shorter than the first 6 installments, but still good.

Sebastian and Reny, you know that they will be attracted to each other as that is how these books work, but it was fun to find out how compatible they were. Reny was a strong female and didn't back down while Sebastian was man enough to realize that he shouldn't over power her in every way and let her actually show she could handle herself.

Aristide and Kate, loved these two! Aristide had a preconceived idea on who is mate would be, and had to change his tune when someone who was not what he had anticipated caught his attention. The fact that he asked before taking with her was very refreshing. Love these two!

Two different females, one without a past and one with a dangerous secret capture the attention of two Pantera males in these exciting paranormal romances. Both stories are fast paced and smooth flowing, full of suspense, action and romance and strong, captivating characters that grab the reader’s attention and doesn’t let go. The well written scenes and details paint vivid images that bring the stories to life and ensure that the readers want more including me as I was completely enthralled with both stories and I can’t wait to read the next one.

I really do like the Pantera world- the men are wickedly hot and the women aren't pushovers.

The authors manage to write their novellas with a very seamless touch. Yes, you can tell that they're two different authors- mainly because you start seeing the authors different writing styles emerge. However, they've managed to write so that the world they created is cohesive.

My biggest complaint- and I've said it before- I could totally do full-length novels for these characters! Yes, I like the world that much.

You really should read the previous stories before starting these two.

Yes, I recommend diving into the Pantera world!

These two ladies work so well together on this Bayou heat series. With the introduction of each new character they all have their own story to tell which over laps and builds into the lives of the Pantera shifters as a whole. A good fights evil concept that has me craving more. I love the background knowledge of how the Pantera came into existence ...the description of the home land and social structure. There is nothing in. These novella's that doesn't call to me. Now it's a waiting game for the next release.

The chemistry of Sebastian and Reny was off the charts from their first meeting. Reny is so brave and strong. She keeps going and tries to ignore the missing past. Sebastian is very focused on his goals until he meets Reny and she knocks him off balance. Aristide as a Nurturer is very caring. He knows there is more to Katherine then she is letting on. I love the addition of Noah and hope to see more of him in the future. Once again I was attached to this book from the beginning to the end and could not stop reading. I love the series and all the characters.

Finally got done reading this. Argh all these cliffhangers. I think that's why I'm always frothing at the mouth for these books. I liked Sebastian's story better than Aristide, only because Ari's story was hella short and we didn't get a fight scene with Marco and the rescuing of Noah. It was more romantic and Bastian was just.....MMMMMMM. And yay we finally got the truth about Reny. Where does this leave poor jaded Hiss? Also after 8 stories, we finally got the birth of Raf's sweet little baby girl. Really loving these Panteras. I hope the conclusion of this series ends up to be EPIC!.

The first book started great, the story progress and chemistry between the characters was good, but I felt the intimacy was hurried; the mating heat made her act very unlike herself, and it felt a little fake.

Aristide's is not my favorite so far. The plot was kind of dull and the love scenes and final was hurried as well and unrealistic. I mean, the girl just met the guy, and already she is head over heels for him? C'mon!

I agree with my fellow reviewers: the stories would improve if you two make the books longer. Let us get to know the characters and they each other.

I think I finished this on the 2nd. Either that, or it was on the 1st.

Maybe it was because I was listening to this my final week of work... but honestly a lot of it was a blur.

I think I remember feeling a bit disappointed with Aristide's story. Or it might have been Sebastian's story. I honestly don't remember. I remember things felt rushed. I think that was for both of them.

I do look forward to reading or listening to the next.

Just wish that either I had been able to pay better attention, or it hadn't been as rushed.
