This is my last time through the program, and I'm a little sad. The clearly marked path, colorful materials and fun little stories have a been a calm and enjoyable part of my home schooling day. I have used it both with children that have English as their first and English as their second language.
While the word "phonics" is in the title, this really isn't phonics. It is really word families. Kids learn vowel consonant combos, such as -an and then read a series of words such as tan, can, van. Next lessons feature consonant blends, such as ch- followed by words with each vowel sound, such as chap, chess, chip, chop, Chuck. Common English proper names are included in the word lists.
After we finish with this, we move to the solidly phonics based program All About Spelling (AAS) by Marie Rippel which I highly recommend whether you have come this way or not. We will also keep reinforcing reading skills with Master Reader in combination with AAS.
