I recommend this book as a teaching tool for basic shapes introduction to build on from about 2 1/2 and up. Also, it's a fun read for Valentine's Day, as well as a conversation starter for caring about and loving others, and what you might choose to do for someone you care about. All the Alphonse knows books are enjoyable and educational.

Such a simple premise, but ridiculously cute. (Plus, we've learned shapes!)

It's a good idea to review basic shapes with pre-schoolers before sharing this story. It is great fun and perfect for Valentine's.
