It is good to see applied ethics now and then. Ethics and Values in Social Work is a good example of applied ethics. Using a mixture of normative ethical theories and practical guidelines, this book is an example of how to apply a strong theoretical background to a situation. The book starts with an analysis of the two main ethical theories of Kantianism versus Utilitarianism before going more in-depth in looking at other theories and examining how this should be applied. There is a strong amount of research and clear referencing, using the Harvard style referencing common in textbooks. A useful guide for those interested in combining social work with ethical theory.

I thought the best part of the book was the case studies at the end, which analysed the various ethical problems and dilemmas within social work.
