More than just a first preschool book of biblical stories, this added challenges and prayers right along with different portions of scripture in an easy to understand way for both my 9 & 6 year olds. The illustrations are wonderful and the content concrete.
It was a simple read. It took me exactly seven months to read this book. I had the intention of reading it to our kids, but I ended up reading it in my alone time. It became my Bible read for the year. I try to read the Bible all the way through every year, and the Jesus Calling Bible Storybook became my devotional. It was well done. The art was simple and the telling of the Bible stories was simple enough for children to understand. I recommend this book for anyone.
Well, I'm not on a mission to change you, let me make that clear first. Like any other book , I read this book "Jesus Calling , Bible Story Book" by Sarah Young, it gave me such a soothing feeling. It helped me sleep much peacefully yesterday. I being a Christian, have read most of this stories in Bible itself, but still it felt refreshing to hear it again. And you dont have to be religious to read a book, for a good reader, stories matter, the message matter. So I encourage you to read these stories without fearing that you will be changed or your views will be changed.
"Out of nothing , God created the heavens and the earth. He filled them with every good thing. God made flowers and trees , bunnies and bumblebees, and the very first people ---named Adam and Eve. God loves everything that he made." And so it starts with the creation of world. Sarah Young gave this book a parental touch, which makes this book complete. Childrens & parents will find it very interesting. But people like me , young and not married will also like it, if there is a child in you who loves meaningful stories .
Its easily understandable since it is mainly written for children but I too loved the illustrations of the book, it made the book lively. I suggest it to all readers who are unbiased readers & not shy or afraid that they may change by this or to those who have that attitude inside you that you think "I will only read novels, not story books" .If you like, then give it a try, you will find Joseph, Mary, jesus, Paul , Peter , John ,Moses, Jacob and all those people who made this book amazing other than Sarah. . . . . . . . . . #jesuscalling #biblestory #bibleatorybook #sarahyoung #christian #children #parents #wordofgod #goodreads #soothing #devotion #jesus #messiah #parables #disciples #heaven #suffering #good #bad #faith #hope #love #god #hisvoice #selectedstories #bookreview #reader #reviewer #readerssnapshot #bookie
Our latest family read through Bible. I'm not a Sarah Young person or anything. It was good and had nice illustrations. While I didn't flat out disagree with any of the theology in this (like on inerrancy) but she definitely said things in a way I wouldn't say them. The kids definitely kept asking to read this one so that's always a good sign.
This was a more traditional children's storybook Bible - it covered many of the stories I expected it to and in a way that felt very familiar. The illustrations were lovely, and I appreciated what they added to each story. Some of these stories end with a little section that is based on Sarah Young's popular Jesus Calling devotional. Those portions highlight a verse and a first-person message written as if it's from God. Personally, I really enjoyed this storybook Bible and think it would be a good choice for anyone looking for a children's Bible.
This was awesome for a child! Took you step by step, story by story, through the old and new testament. It was easy for Gannon to understand and he enjoyed it. He still references back to it while we are reading other books.
This book is a collection of all the most well known Bible stories told in a way that can be understood well by children and accompanied by pictures that also help explain what is happening in the stories.
I like that this book is an easy read that small children would also be able to understand. I also love it because it helps tell stories that might be otherwise very difficult to tell because of the gruesome details. I also enjoy the drawings, they look like pictures from cartoons.
I would use this book if I worked in a Christian school or if I taught a children's Bible class at church. I would use this as a way to help children start memorizing stories in scripture because it is equally important that children are taught the Bible as well as adults.
The illustrations in this are cute and fun to look at, but there are some stories that do not follow Scripture. For example, Leah did not have 11 sons. I think the point was to make this less confusing, but I remember reading stories from a story Bible as a child - which were supposed to be less confusing - and then reading the Scripture and being confused as to why the story was changed in my story Bible. The end result was that I felt tricked. I was also not a fan of the paraphrasing of some Psalms and the Beatitudes.

Such a wonderful introduction to some very important Bible stories for my daughters! We absolutely loved making this book a part of our morning routine. After returning to work from maternity leave, I felt so rushed getting out the door in the morning. We started the ritual of reading a Bible story while my daughters ate breakfast after my son had his bottle in order to take a minute to pause in what is otherwise a very busy morning routine. It was such a special time to spend together and helped set the foundation for all of our days. We will definitely read through again!!
"I like this book because they talk to Jesus and God and all the stuff that Jesus did back then. I like the part that they all disobeyed God then they came back then the people that loved God got to do stuff for God and with God. I like it because I read the book and we prayed in your name Amen." -Conley, age 6
We’ve finished several Bible story books this year. We read before bedtime each night and comparatively this one really hold the attention of both my 2 year old and 10 year old. The stories aren’t to long but are more than just a sentence. I think the art is very appealing as well.
"I like this book most of all because it's about Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior, I hope that they come out with another book with more Bible stories." -Cadee, age 9
Overall I would say this is a good introductory Bible story book. The illustrations are simple, beautiful, and nice. The stories the right length to read one a night a long with prayer and other stories. I fault it in keeping the "bad" parts out and some inaccuracies. I also don't think it really covered a lot of the Old Testament or the prophets or judges much. I also did not like how the ending was always speaking as God in the first person. I think that might be confusing for young children.
This is our nightly devotional bible we use and the kids love it! The book is filled with pictures and the concepts are simple for children (I even enjoy the scripture verses as they speak to me too!)
This book is written as a daily first-person of Jesus. The author, Sarah Young, brings a very personal touch, as she relates the words she heard from Jesus each day. Thankfully, she began to journal what He told her. I hope you are blessed by reading it for yourself. GOD bless you.
Loved this Children's Bible, and the kids did too. Beautifully illustrated and I loved the "Jesus Calling" devotions at the end of most of the stories.
