When her twin sister dies, Bree Prentis moves from Seattle to Miami to inherit a shadowy business, an upscale house, and her sister’s sexy Cuban business partner and housemate, Sixto Doria. She adjusts to the vivid culture of Miami, but constantly bumping into Sixto is straining her hands-off vow. Bree is looking for a man to give her a happily ever after, and Sixto has sworn off relationships. He knows it’s wrong to want her, but she makes him forget why he's not right for her, makes him crave her natural honesty and wholesome beauty.
When he teaches her to dance the Salsa Cubana, then suggests she spend the night in his bed, Bree is shocked—and tempted. In the midst of a hurricane, Bree surrenders to her reckless desire and makes love with Sixto. Could Bree be the one Sixto's been waiting for? If she finds out he’s hiding a nasty truth from her—their company is a façade for a semi-legal business—she will shut it down, and Sixto will lose the income his family depends on. And more frightening for Sixto, he would lose Bree.
When she researches their company’s outrageous revenue, she sees a pattern of untruths leading back to Sixto. The word ‘love’ enters their relationship, and she prays his duplicity is all a misunderstanding, and his seduction is not merely a distraction to keep her from discovering the truth.
Disclaimer: I received this book from a Goodreads giveaway. However, all my opinions are honest and in no way influenced by the author or publisher.
The reason why I enjoy Goodreads Giveaways is that it makes you interested to read certain books which you might not have picked up from the sales counter. And surprisingly, even though some of them can be a tad bit disappointing, a few others can be quite enjoyable. Dancing in a Hurricane was one such book -- a page turner, perfect for a light read while on a vacation.
I had never read this genre before, and so, started it with pretty low expectations. However, I and was mildly surprised to actually end up liking it. The book was as an erotica should be: tantalizing, sinful and seductive. It'll manage to seduce the reader into a pleasurable delight with detailed descriptions.
However, the novel was not just about some steamy sex scenes, stringed together in haste. There was ample drama and tension to keep the story-line quite taut.
The characters were also quite well sketched out! They were NOT B-graded shallow ones, the ones which usually makes me cringe! However, at certain times, I felt that the writing was a little too melodramatic, and made me roll my eyes!
Overall, it was a lazy and naughty read, and I wish the author Laura Breck success for her future works!
Excellent book! Book kept me hooked from page 1. Loved meeting all of Sixto's family and how they were part of the entire book. I really liked how the relationship of Bree and Sixto developed. Can't wait for the next book in the series.
I've enjoyed Laura Breck books before, but upon reading this one I realized I'd forgotten exactly how good a writer she is. This was a great contemporary romance with small town Bree inheriting her twin's Miami house (or half of it), secret business (or half of it), and housemate. Yes, the other half is owned by part-time model Sixto (of Cuban descent) and the man is seriously hot! The story flies by with good emotional give and take, trust issues that need to be overcome, a subplot with another romance, great description, and a believable growth experience for both main characters. This is a well crafted story that will sweep any romance reader away for a satisfying read. Truly an excellent book!
This was the first book that I have read by this author and I was not disappointed. I really enjoyed this book!! This book really lets you get to know each of the characters and you love them all. I loved Bree and Sixto's story and couldn't help but root for them and hope that they end up together. I love Sixto's family and how they took Bree into their family. I could not read this book fast enough because I wanted to find out how the book ends and how Sixto reveals his secret to Bree and how she was going to take the news. I loved the ending and how they solved the problem of the warehouse.I am so glad that I was able to receive a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
Picked this book up on Amazon when I found it was FREE. It was very, very enjoyable. Kept me interested from start to finish. Looking forward to the second one. I would have gladly paid money for it.
I hated the ending of this. Sooooo much melodrama. Then, though I could have accepted it.......maybe....there was a bigger deal about driving from Miami to Sanibel Island ("I can't believe you made me drive all the way across the state") than when the heroine drove from Miami to Tallahassee. To Sanibel...maybe 2.5 or 3 hours. To Tallahassee, 7+ hours, yet not only did she do a round trip to Tallahassee the as,e day as she met with a lawyer AND got her PTlicemse, she wasn't fazed by it at all. Good lord!
Al's, mailboxes are generally cemented into the ground. How in blazes do you carry one into a garage? And to casually say that they do it every time there's a hurricane? Despite it's reputation, Florida doesn't really get blasted that often. I will say that I would have made the same mistake before I lived here and saw for myself.
It was an okay story, but definitely one I have any interest in reading again. I wish her every good luck with her future endeavors.
I found this to be an engaging romance, with an enjoyable mix of damaged personalities who found ways to overcome thier pasts. Based on the summary of the story, I wasn't sure I would like the story since it involved a "shadowy money making business". However, the business wasn't as bad as my imagination, which might mean I read too many crime novels, hehe. There are actually two storys that develop here. The main story involves Briana and Sixto, the secondary story that develops later involves Sixto's sister and his best friend. The author did a great job of mixing in the Cuban culture with the story. Living in Florida, I did find it amusing that the hurricane was so lightly brushed off, but I simply enjoyed the story and tried not to remember my own brushes with tropical weather.
2.75 stars. Dancing in a Hurricane by Laura Breck was just OK - some elements were good, but the characters were somehow all a bit annoying, and both the characters and some elements of the story felt like they could have been developed more - I think the pacing was off somewhat. But I did enjoy the Miami flavour.
Je viens de fermer ce livre. Je ne connaissais pas cet auteur, j'ai passé un bon moment en compagnie de Bree et Sixto. J'ai bien aimé cette romance et j'attends le tome 2 avec impatience.
