The Torch Forsaken
A young man waits for his lover under the shade of an ancient sprawling tree as the sun rises over Brazil. It is the end of summer. The earth is baked. Heat rises from the burnt cane fields as dawn floods the land.
Dimas Cabral and Alanyo Valermo are cane cutters in southern Brazil. The 4th book in the series - if you have not read the first 3, I highly recommend reading those first. This story was what I expected from the blurb on the cover, then not, then it was. I think that is what I enjoy about this author, none of the characters or stories are perfect. I would also recommend having the 5th book ready to go as it closely follows this one and this story about Dimas continues in that book. Both books are novel length but, to me, the story really is one.
