Hotwired for each other...

When Ross Dixon is kidnapped from his office, along with the sexy lawyer who'd been busting his balls over a deal that should have been a walk in the park, he wakes to find a devotion chip surgically implanted in his brain. If that isn't bad enough, the chip, designed to trigger emotional reactions between him and the woman lying next to him, is working overtime on his libido.

Mistaken for Ross's flavor of the month, Kayla Michaels, a 22nd century lawyer, doesn't have a problem spending time in Ross's bed--or over his desk--but she wants no part in the romantic feelings the chip is provoking. She's been down that road before and ended up burned.

Kayla and Ross struggle to find answers while coming to terms with the constant lust sizzling between them, but along the way each wonders if the emotions are real or just a side effect of being hotwired.

Author of erotic mysteries and romance

Anita Philmar likes to create stories that push the limit. A writer by day, and a dreamer by night, she wants her readers to see the world in a new way. With the influence of her children’s sci-fi programs, she likes to play with diverse cultures and places where anything can happen. She enjoys bringing hot romantic moments to life in a great read.

Dear reader,

First, thank you for your love and devotion over the years. You may have noticed. I haven’t released a new book in some time. This wasn’t because I didn’t have stories to write. No, it was more because the characters in my books wanted fuller stories.

Having a love affair with each of my characters, I couldn’t silence their chatter. They wanted their stories told in a deeper, more satisfying way. To silence them, I’ve worked to learn more about my craft to bring their stories alive.

Now the painful part, I want to make sure no one reads my stories in my old voice, so I am removing all my books from every retail site.
The good news is I plan to re-release a new rewritten story each month for the next few years.

So let the fun begin.

All the best,
Anita

Thoughts: For a romance with a little bit of s sci-fi/fantasy premise to it, I thought this was a really interesting and enjoyable read. At approximately 167 pages or so, it is a short read, and the author doesn’t hesitate to dive right in to the good stuff. Before we know it, our main characters are thrown right into the thick of things. The idea behind a ‘devotion chip’ to keep people faithful to one another was a great idea and enjoyed the path it took our characters down, but it also left a lot of questions that were unanswered. I know I would have liked to have learned a lot more and delved more into this world where technology can keep partners faithful to one another. The characters were interesting as well. As with most other short stories, I was left wanting more.

The book reminded me a bit of Laurann Doehner’s New Species series, mixed with a bit of Jocelyn Han’s Stardust series.

Ross sure doesn't mind sharing his thoughts and feelings, "what did they drug us with?" Ross's words rumbled through his chest, teasing her beaded nipples. "Because I'm getting hard just looking at you." I mean the boy just has no damn filter, "don't be fooled into believing our lust will lessen. I have a healthy sexual appetite, always have. And if you're the only one to provide me with the release I need, you have to be nearby." I really loved Ross I loved how he just stated things and not cared what others think I truly find that sexy, "he stood and strolled across the room to pin her against the wall. "Home sounds very inviting, but we're not going to get there any time soon. My fantasy of us effing in my car just hit the realm of possibilities." I wonder if Mick will get his own story.

Not bad for a free read but I would've liked some more character development and a more realistic pace. The premise of a "love chip" was original and fresh. I also liked that the alpha-male wasn't written like a barbarian, like so many are nowadays, and that he had a sensitive side. As I said, the pace of the book was too fast for my tastes and I wished the book itself could've been fleshed out more. For $0 though, I'd recommend it.

3.5 stars. Interesting premise with the devotion chip. I did like both characters, although we never did find out the full story behind the chip on the female lead's shoulder. Love scenes were decent but lacked depth to the passion...usually a problem with shorter books.
