"Jarvis lay dead on the stage in a pool of blood... as the police led Clarise away in handcuffs."
Introducing America’s first diabetic amateur detective. 25 year old millennial Betty Crawford is thrown into a maelstrom of murder and deceit as she races to clear her best friend of murder charges while coping with Type II Diabetes and her new web business run out of her parent’s home.
And if that wasn’t enough what can – and should - she do about her inexplicable attraction for the police officer handling the murder investigation?
Mystery and Romance are the two most popular modern literary genres and the Betty Crawford series combines both. What makes Betty interesting isn’t merely the crimes and how she solves them but how she deals with the important issues of her life.
Betty is a type II diabetic who loves food and it shows; she is overweight. With a self aware sense of humor she faces the need to change her lifestyle, improve her self image, rebuild her career and most importantly figure out the appropriate ways to interact with her family, friends and the man she loves.
As is the case in real life, there are no easy answers, few straight lines and there is always more going on than meets the eye.
The pen name Liz Marvin is a tip of the hat and a tribute to Bess Marvin, Nancy Drew's best friend in the enormously popular Nancy Drew Mysteries.
Murder in the theater, Jarvisthe understudy and general dogsbody is murdered and Clarise, the director is arrested. Betty, who is Clarise's best friend, knows she could never hurt anyone and starts her own investigation.
A light-hearted cozy mystery set in the local community theater. It has some editing and format errs but they can be easily overlooked. Enjoyed.
This review is from: Murder Takes A Bow - A Betty Crawford Mystery (The Betty Crawford Mysteries) (Kindle Edition) I very rarely give a poor review for a book. This is perhaps my 3rd in almost 100 reviews. But...this is just not for me.
Whoever is editing or checking the grammar for the kindle edition of this book has not done their job. After the first 5 errors I started to lose hope of reading a well put together book. Very unusual for the books on kindle that I've read.
The story, in my opinion, was so totally unrealistic it was basically childish. The tantrum thrown by Betty when she came upon the scene in front of the theater ...caused me not to take this book seriously as a good mystery for me to follow. This sort of nonsensical behavior just wasn't what I was looking for in a mystery.
Sorry...but I'll be deleting this from my kindle and not following this series. It did look interesting but it's just not for me.
This book was OK but the heroine, Betty Crawford, is rather annoying. She is the assistant director of the neighborhood theater. When the stage manager is found murdered, Betty's best friend, Clarise, is arrested. She feels that she must try to help her friend and find out who murdered Jarvis. That part is OK, it is the back story that is not to my liking. Betty finds out that she is diabetic and she goes through hoops so that her parents, who she lives with, don't find out for some reason. She has police protection but, of course, she doesn't want it. She knows how to trap the murderer and then is upset when she does and it almost backfires. I don't think I'll read any more of these. Too much of the book was spent on diabetic rules and treatments. Not for me but I'm sure there are many who will enjoy it.
I wasn't to thrilled with this book I will chuck it up to I get what I pay for and since I didn't pay for it it's all good. I don't know what year this was suppose to be based in but Betty's reaction to having diabetes was just simply stupid. I'm not convinced Clarice wasn't a part of this whole robbery and murder thing but i will not be getting the next book it will have to remain a mystery to me.
Easy read, would have benefited from a proof read as it had several instances of typos and wrong names used on occasion etc. Annoying main character as well.
