Romancing the Dark Side:
A superb sequel that stirs up every emotion possible while reading!
Controlling the Dead wastes no time in getting to the nitty gritty of things picking up right where Taking the Dead left us, with a lot of questions to be answered. Kansas (aka Kan) is trying her best to recover after her horrific attack at the end of book one, but is finding it hard to readjust to life now that’s she back home in the community. She’s become somewhat of a loner (although I can’t blame her) but is determined to keep the ones closest to her safe by any means. The stakes are higher than ever in this post-apocalyptic world and just when you think things are going well, new revelations surface that force Kansas to make some life changing choices.
First let me start off by saying this book is so much more than just a “zombie book.” The world building and story in Controlling the Dead (and series) is phenomenal. The characters are just as unique as the plot and pull at your heartstrings with their raw emotion, it’s impossible to not feel a connection to them. Ms. Walls loves to put her characters through the ringer, but each obstacle they face makes them that much stronger. The relationships are just as complex as their world but they’ve managed to keep their humanity intact, their loyalty to each other and their cause is what keeps them going strong and what I love the most. There are no guaranteed HEAs in this world and the endgame is unpredictable.
Despite all the physical and emotional pain Kan has undergone, she remains the fiercely strong heroine I grew to love in Taking on the Dead. Seeking what she knows best, solace, she moves out on her own and tries to make sense of everything that has happened in the last couple of months and how to rebuild her relationships and her new life. There’s a new secret ability she has now that makes Kan a very special asset which was a great unforeseen twist that I’m excited about. What I love most about her character is her determination and loyalty to everyone around her, she’s not afraid to sacrifice herself for the well being of others and will stop at nothing to keep them safe. Kan can sometimes put a wall up and doesn’t let people in easily (which is totally acceptable during the zombie apocalypse), but she slowly brings that wall down and opens up to her friends as the story progresses.
I like my books with a little romantic element to them, even when you’re dealing with the undead, so I was thrilled to have a dash of romance thrown into the story. The best romances are the ones that develop through time and that’s why I’ve been a fan of Rudy and Kan’s relationship. Their chemistry is undeniable and while they’ve kept things platonic, you know they have feelings for each other. Rudy loves Kan and knows her better than she knows herself, he never treats her like a victim, knows how to give her space and supports her in all her choices. I love their friendship and how they make each other better people. I was a little worried about the “semi-love-triangle” that I saw developing in the last book between Rudy, Mac (Rudy’s friend) and Kan but she makes pretty clear who holds her heart putting my uneasiness to rest. I’ve been Team Rudy from the beginning and while he has a few secrets of his own his feelings for Kan are true. Just when I thought I’d get no smexiness from these two in this book things heat up and needless to say I wasn’t left wanting.
The supporting characters in Controlling the Dead are as well developed as the hero and heroine. Mac, Reece, Glinda and even Guido each bring a different dynamic to the story and add plenty of humor with their sarcasm and charm. It’s great to see their interactions and relationships, it brings a sense of normalcy in a world filled with famished (zombies) and chaos. My heart was broken when , I wasn’t expecting that outcome and still need a little time to recover from it.
If I could give this book 5.5 stars I would, it’s that good. Since reading the first book in the series I’ve become a huge fan of the TV show The Walking Dead (not comparing) and find that it’s made me appreciate this kind of story even more. Annie Walls can easily hold the crown of zombie gore, she paints vivid scenes with her words that put you right into her world of the famished and putrid…I love her attention to detail. This story has everything that made me love Taking on the Dead and more! It’s dark and gritty with plenty of nail-biting action and heart, I said it before and I’ll say it again, dark urban fantasy at its finest. Controlling the Dead is an emotional roller coaster ride that draws you in from the first page…you won’t want to put it down and when you do you’ll be dying for the next installment (no pun intended)! Bravo Annie, you’ve done it again

I enjoyed this book almost as much as I enjoyed the first book. It starts exactly where book 1 ended. We start off with Kan and Reese off looking for Mago. From there it takes a crazy turn and there is not a lot of breathing time in between all the excitement going on. Starting book 2 so long after reading book 1 was a struggle. I couldn't remember exactly how things went in the first book and the second book does not backtrack. I am a bit disappointed that book 2 has been out since 2013 and at 2018, book 3 still hasn't been released. With the ended that I just read, it is a struggle not to go crazy!!

I actually rated this book 4.5 stars but when leaving reviews on sites such as Amazon, Goodreads, B&N..I always round up to the next full star.
Reese and Kan have made their way to NOLA in search of some answers. And the only person who can help them is Mago. Once they do find him, the answers they seek are not what they want to hear. This world they live in is messed up and it is only getting worse. And things will only get weirder for Kan. On top of all the crap she has been through this is definitely not a good thing.
AH!!! It is so good to be back hanging out with Kan and Rudy and Mac again. Only problem is Kan is absolutely losing it. And rightly so. But this girl is cracking and needs some serious help before it puts her right over the edge. Rudy has his own problems to handle, so he may not be the best person to help her out with hers. Mac is flighty and hard to pin down, so he may not be what she needs either. All I know is someone has got to step up and help this girl out before it is too late.
If you are looking for a slow pace book lacking emotion, zombies and suspense, it is best to move on then. There is always something going on in this book you will never find a dull moment. Absolutely amazing!! And even heartbreaking. My heart hurt so bad reading this one. This is one author who isn’t afraid to ruffle a few feathers and break some hearts. So prepare yourself now.
I will say that there wasn’t a whole lot of romance though. And that was kind of a bummer for me. Sure there is lots of flirting going on, but nothing that amounted to anything really. Well not until the very end pretty much. And I do understand why there wasn’t much romance, I mean, I wouldn’t be in a romantic mood either after all that Kan was put through in the first book. I was really hoping for something more to transpire between Rudy and Kan than what did. But, Walls knows what she is doing and I am going to trust that it will all work out. And when you read the book, at the end is a special passage from Rudy’s POV. And it totally made this book!
Love slice and dice zombie reads? Of course you do!! This is the book for you. If you have read the first book, you are most definitely are going to want to read this one. The ending of the first book had to have peaked your interest, am I right? So what are you waiting for? Get on this one. Like now!! NOW!

I could very well give Controlling the Dead five stars. I should actually be giving it five stars. But I can't. Because of the events that took place in this book broke my heart. I can't and won't spoil it for fans who are anxiously awaiting this book.
Controlling the Dead expands, explains, and then cloaks itself back under it's veil. For all the answers that we get, a few more pop up. For all the revelations, more things come to the surface. Who are the good guys? Who are the bad guys? All I can tell you is that by the end of the book the only character I trust is Kan. So many things happen to her that I can see why she often wants to go back into her hole.
I can't wait until she lets me take a peek at book three!!!
The action and romance that you loved (or for some strange reason hated) is still here. So yeah, if you hated the romance aspect of the first book then you probably won't like this one.
I, for the record, can't stand reading books that are devoid of romance and sex. It's boring and not true to human nature.
Annie is still the queen of gross descriptions. Seriously. Ugh. It's so good, and bad that I could very vividly imagine what these things look and smelled like.
Kan spends a good time dealing with her attack at the end of book one. She also carries a huge load of guilt. It affects her and the choices she makes, but I never felt like I was wallowing in her pity party. She grows as a character, and the story grows.
Overall Controlling the Dead was everything I wanted. Kind of. But I can't speak of that. Annie knows what I am talking about. ;-)

Kansas has survived zombies,heartache and so much more but her journey isn't over. She has made new friends and found out many things she didn't know before. She has to learn to let herself heal and find out more answers to the questions she has. This is a long hard road to travel and the zombies may be the least of her worries.
Kansas is one of my absolute favorite characters of all time. She kicks ass and great at surviving. She has more weaker moments I think in this book but she has been through so much it isn't any wonder. It just really makes her that much more fantastic. She has to figure out something strange that is happening to her her now. Along with Kansas are the great and the not so great characters you meet in the first book along with some new ones.
This is one of my favorite series and not just because it has zombies but because while reading it you feel you are inside Kansas`s head. You really live her life. This book adds so much more to the plot. sometimes the second book doesn't live up to the first but this one certainly does. Kansas has really hard decisions to make in this book. There is tons of action and the book never slows down. It keeps you entertained from page one. I will say I had my heartbroken reading this but won't give any spoilers. If you want an amazing story of survival pick this up. You don't have to be a fan of zombies to read this series there is so much more to the books.

I shared a recipe with you in honor of this book last week on Monday and today I am sharing my review! I know we are buried in our NaNoWriMo WIP, at least many of us are (including me) but this is a great review for a nice break if you are looking for a wonderful set of stories including the latest published on October 27th. A great group of goo filled bottles of zombified awesomesauce.
Controlling the Dead is the second in the Famished Trilogy and I am thrilled to finally have gotten this in my zombie goo covered hands! Mind you I had to stalk the author some (coughing, a lot) and found out a secret minion group! (All hail the Minions of the Famished)!
Having read the last one on a whim last year. Honestly, I was attracted to the cover and the fact that it had some really compelling reviews. Notice I did not say, awesome reviews because (yes I can going to use this as a soapbox about reviews, deal with it). The author has managed to get a great balance of honest, strong reviewers and regular readers who have become fan-girls and boys! It was great! So I grabbed it, read it overnight and sat there with my mouth hanging open. Of course the reviews are also awesome!
What is so compelling about this particular zombie book? It isn’t because it is the “best” written book out there, don’t get me wrong it was more than great and I loved it! (It is really hard not to fall in love with Kansas right away). It did not have the most original story, I mean zombies right? How original can you be in with zombies, it is stretch no matter what? Granted, she did have a pretty interesting one, and her world build was very different from most because this was not right or during the outbreak after but years after the outbreak. Seriously what could this writer do to drag a person who is an avid zombie and post-apocalyptic story reader? What new hook? I am not sure there is one particular one exactly, and by this second book she is working on a few. However what she can do is use that ever so talented brain of hers to create an incredible group of characters.
In this oversaturated zombie industry you have to make the story original by creating compelling and believable characters. Author Annie Walls has them in spades and they are believable, flawed, horrible, lovable despicable, disgusting… and all of them blended together created this ride that crept along at fast, slow… sleeping, neck-breaking and nail-biting speed! With the world build so strong it was a perfect marriage of beautifully designed story elements.
The main character, Kansas, or Kan, is still the character I fell in love with during the Taken by the Dead. The people around her are true supporting “actors” in the tale. Her story could not be told without their balance. Their loss could not be had without her there to complete the circle of life, even amidst a world crawling with the undead. It was lovely and horrific, and bloody and just awesomesauce (grin)
Why should you grab this, the first in the series Taking on the Dead and the find the rest of the short stories in the series? Why read this zombie story in comparison to the others, other than I am telling you too ?. Because it truly is a grand story. It has everything you want in a story. Inner struggles, conflicts, romance, death and disappointment and even a bit of hope. There is not a real happily ever after but there is a window of opportunity, and that is what makes it a great series book. When you get to the end you are left satisfied but still yelling and wanting to next one now.
For those who read the first story, this one takes not so much in a linear forward motion but kind of SE (haha well it doers start off in New Orleans) and goes into the realm of Voodon. Oh, ya no……… this is not a zombie story where voodon is the cause of zombies, but …. Well read the title… CONTROLLING the DEAD? Oh no you can’t get away that easily! This book is much more than shambling and occasionally running zombies caused by some virus Miss Annie brings in Voodon and the added aspect of this with book two really brings this up to a new level of awesomeness!
The book is getting a 4 out of 5 and that is because it took way to long for the second book to come out. I had to re-read the first one. I started reading Controlling the Dead and had to stop about 30% through to read Taking on the Dead. I read a lot and this was over 200 books ago. With a break that long and no back story at the beginning even fans were lost. Which would have been my only suggestion if I was a beta-reader. Kind of like a preseason recap!

4.5 Last year Annie Walls blew me away with her post-apocalyptic zombie tale Taking on the Dead. The first in the Famished Trilogy it earned a top spot on my Adult Top-Ten Reads for 2013. As you can imagine, I was drooling in anticipation of Controlling the Dead. My friends, it was well worth the wait. Walls has created a fascinating world with characters that have become family. We see story advancement and character development as Walls holds are emotions captive. Mini review: engaging, action-packed and heart-wrenching.
This review is spoiler free for those who have read Taking on the Dead. The tale jumps straight back into the story, and it took me a while to acclimate myself. It really needed a recap and I actually went back and read the last few chapters of book one and my own review after reading the first few pages of Controlling the Dead. I do not recommend reading this series out of order.
The tale picks up with Kansas pretty damaged after the events that transpired in book one. She is withdrawn; constantly moving, and planning. The rest of our merry team is worried about her. The team is working to uncover answers, and still planning to save more lives from the compounds. The tale that unfolds was action-packed, with character and plot development. Walls pulled me in and held me till the end.
Kansas “Kan” is a complicated, kick-ass character who has endured more crap in her lifetime then any soul should have to bear. She is driven, unmerciful at times and so compassionate at others that your heart bleeds for her. Mac and Rudy are her love interests, and I feared this little triangle would continue. Mac and Rudy are best friends, and it’s clear they respect and admire each other making things more complicated. Despite how messed up she is, it is clear where her heart lies. Thankfully she lets them know and we could all move forward. Rudy is complex, caring and damaged himself. Max is sweet, and dangerous and dependable. One of the things I adored about the romance is that Walls allowed it to build slowly from friendship, trust and respect. We felt the sexual tension, and experienced the dance as we saw their feelings emerge from their actions and little nuances. The cast of secondary characters are a motley crew, and Walls took the time to develop them. She gave them each a unique voice and made them an integral part of the tale. The results paid off, as I found myself attached to all of them. I suffered, shared in their joy and fears and had my heart ripped open and left to bleed when we suffered lost. She gave us characters to loathe and also introduced us to some new characters. Mago a voodoo man and his gifted daughter intrigued me.
Controlling the Dead offers a solid, action packed middle book that kept me on edge, and left me drooling for the final book of this trilogy. We had intense scenes, zombie mayhem, and even an interesting twist regarding Kan and the walking dead. There is conflict; secrets are revealed, and some questions are finally answered. She weaves in more aspects of the world, increasing the suspense. The closer we got to answers, the more questions arise. *Gah, it was nail-biting* The story twists and turns with moments of elation and devastation. Walls doesn’t hold back, and no one is safe as she rips us apart with climatic scenes and unexpected twists. She balances the dark and the light, the bloody gore and the laughter keeping the reader completely enthralled. This book is more than a zombie apocalyptic world, the characters breathe life into it making it an epic tale of survival. The ending gives us hope and leaves us screaming for more.
Fans of the character driven, post-apocalyptic worlds need to read the Famished Trilogy. Those who loved Taking on the Dead, need to grab their copy of Controlling the Dead stat, you will not be disappointed. The final book Living with the Dead does not have an expected release date at the time of this review.

This is the second book of The Famished Trilogy by Annie Walls. I loved the first book, Taking On The Dead, but this new novel is amazing. Controlling The Dead shows how very talented the author truly is. I was spellbound from page one.
Traveling through a world of zombies, Voodoo priest and conspiracy plots is Kansas Moore. She is not your ordinary girl next door. Kan is a crossbow carrying, zombie killing, badass, that is trying to make a better life for the people who have survived. She wants answers about how the zombie virus started and knows that it was not an accident. This series is more than just another zombie horror story, even though it can be very gory and graphic. It is also an intriguing mystery, a comedy and a very hot love story. I can't get enough of this post zombie apocalyptic world.
Annie Walls writing skills makes this book come to life. Her description of Rudy, left me drooling over the hunk with an amazing body. He is Kansas’ lover, friend and combat comrade, but he is much more that it. His sense of loyalty is awesome. He is determined to always do what is right, even if it means sacrificing his own desires and needs.
Mago, is a Voodoo priest, from the swamps of New Orleans, who can control the dead. He is mysterious and spooky. He has a secret agenda which includes Kansas, even if she doesn't want it to. After Kansas seeks out Mago for answers, she discovers that she can do things she never dreamed possible. Is it a curse or a blessing?
Kansas doesn't listen to her friend Max that is trying to protect her. She charges in trying to gain the knowledge of what caused the end of the world as we know it. What she finds is more questions, than answers. When everything goes wrong she discovers she only has one friend that she can truly trust. Reece is like a big brother to Kan and is will to do anything needed to help her, just like always.
I am beyond words at describing the characters from this book. I feel my attempt does not do them justice. There are so many more that I didn’t even touch on here. They are all so well developed. I feel as if I know each and every one of them. I love the good guys, hate the bad guys and just want to slap a stupid princess, want-to-be chick, every once in a while.
I can't praise Annie Walls enough. She is absolutely brilliant. I will be anxiously awaiting the third and final book in the trilogy, Living With The Dead, but I also really want to see what Ms Walls will do next. Will there be other horror, mysterious venues to explore? I surly hope so!!!!

To say that I've been woeful since reaching the end of the first book would be an understatement! I've been looking forward to Controlling the Dead - hoping for Rudy and Kansas to explore a relationship and getting ready to find out some answers along with Kansas to questions raised in the first book. I was anxious to find out about Mago being able to tell there's more to him than meets the eye. I knew an interesting story would be there, too, and I wasn't wrong. Along with excitement, I also went into this book with some trepidation as I knew it was going to be an emotional read, promised by the synopsis.
First of all, Kansas is broken. There's just no other way to put it. In spirit, mind, body...you really just want to put her back together again. Her stubbornness and refusal to take care of herself until her friends see just how bad things are further prove how tough this girl is. And that toughness is how Kansas is going to make her way back to a healthy state of mind. Because no matter what, I had hope she'd be able to mend herself.
I wanted her to put Rudy (as much as I love him) and Mac in their place for keeping secrets from her all the time. In the previous book, seemingly everyone wanted to keep her in the dark, and I didn't get why. She had obviously proven herself to be strong enough time and again to handle the truth of what is going on. In this book, however, I felt she needed time to heal herself before getting back into her role with the team. With that said, Rudy and Mac know she has found out things they kept from her, so why bother to continue now? Why not just come clean because she's going to find out eventually anyway. Each time she finds out another secret that's been kept from her, I felt the sting of betrayal as much as she did.
Controlling the Dead is a pulse pounding, eat your heart out gem of a book with characters I love and a plot I'm jealous I didn't dream up. It raises questions about humanity and what that would look like after a disaster of epic proportions such as the one in Kansas's world. Not only am I entertained by this story, but I also am given food for thought, too.
I'm going to do my best to patiently wait for the third and final book in this trilogy, but it won't be easy!

oh WOW. Where in the world do I start? People see "zombie" and think....ugh blood, guts, and yuck. Well let me just tell you....Zombie stories are some of the most intense and deeply emotional stories out there!!! and Annie Walls is a ROCK STAR author who writes some of the most amazing character stories and plots!!!
Taking On The Dead was one of my favorite books of last year and I could not wait to get my hands on the sequel. I kept thinking, "How in the world is Annie going to top that? How is she going to make the story any better than it already is??" Well i got my answer!!! WOW!
Kan "Kansas" is just a phenomenal character. She is a strong, emotional heroine who is caught in a love triangle between two guys who are both equally HOT and full of personality. Mac and Rudy.....
oh, Mac and Rudy....I mean they are both the definition of hotness BUT I will have to admit that I am pulling for Rudy. He is just so amazing and when he and Kan are together I feel as though I can actually feel the connection between them.
There are so many new characters introduced in this book and each one with their own special meaning! I loved getting to meet the new characters and get to experience the trials and tribulations that they all take together. I will have to say that my favorite "new" character would have to be Dex, the CAT!! I cant help it! I am weak for animals and Dex brings a new story to the Mac and Rudy relationship.
There are so many intense moments to talk about and so many incredible twists that had me in complete shock. I literally had to put the book down and take a deep breath. I am not going to write any spoilers because this is something that the reader should experience for themselves. There is so much more to this book than killing zombies. It is just a phenomenal book and ANNIE WALLS has done it again! Bravo, girl...YOU ROCK!!!

I really like the first one in the series and recommended it to several people. This second book in the series was a huge disappointment, maybe because the first book was so original. Kansas, the main character, was somewhat annoying with her "I'm a bad ass Zombie killing machine who cannot decide between 2 hot guys or take the time to brush my hair". Her dreadlocks were cool in the first book and seemed like a choice, but in this book she makes a reference to her hair matting up when she has access to water, grooming supplies, etc. I threw the book down at one point and snarled "brush your damn hair" to a fictional character, so Kansas aggravated me to the point of insanity. That may seem weird, I admit that, but when you realize that the heroine of the book you are reading is too lazy to brush her own hair things go down hill rapidly. This book she was like Bella Swan with bad hygiene and Zombie controlling powers. The character doesn't even know what she is doing and tells several people that she isn't sure why she is hoarding zombies. The writing seemed disjointed with no real flow between scenes and suddenly the characters are conversing with people who haven't even been introduced in the scene. Voodoo was the magic answer to everything and that got tiresome. "Someone cut off a lock of my hair, did some Voodoo and now I can control Zombies when it is convenient to the plot". It read like an early draft that had not been edited for spelling, grammar or continuity. The book would have been better with more editing and some re-writing. I've read hundreds of Zombie books and none have disappointed me like this one. I should have stopped after reading the first one.

Controlling the dead picks up right where Taking on the dead left us. You can see that Kan is growing and maturing but in a zombie filled world nothing is easy. Kan will be faced with a lot more struggles and events that will shake her to the core and make her want to go running back to safety underground. Kan will start to question who she can actually trust and who the bad guys really are!
I love love love this series, Annie Walls is amazing! Controlling the dead will start to answer all the long awaited questions you've had from Taking on the dead but for every answer, another question arises. There's action, romance, gore, HEARTACHE and you will experience it all with each character! Zombies will attack, than disappear? Only to return and surprise you with their actions! WOW! I could not put this book down, I loved it from beginning to end, I can not wait to see the what Annie has in store for us with Living with the Dead, the last and final installment of The Famished Trilogy.

Love. I fell in love with this series after reading the first book and carefully followed all news having to do with the 2nd book, Controlling the Dead,in order to read it immediately. I've read alot of books and while I can tell what I believe is a good or bad book, I'm not familiar with the why's and the technical aspects behind it. I don't know how Annie does it, but everything is just so real, so much like watching a movie or experiencing a dream. The characters are so loveable or hateable, they truly come off the page for me. My only gripe I guess having to do with the characters, is that some of the secondary characters would have had more time on the page. Only because I wanted to read more, the descriptions are great, you can really "see" these people. I will not give anything away but people are going to be shocked, it sucks but is great at the same time. I wish all the books I read were more like this, so easy and fun to escape into that world. Please next book soon and make it as long as possible, say 500 pages?!

Pretty much the same complaints as with the first book.
Still really liking the characters and enjoying the story, despite a really sad event.
I do feel the need to mention the sex scene could have done with an edit. Something goofy along the lines of vocal cords being in sync, but with what? Each other? It didn't say. The way it read made me chuckle.

I read the first one last May or so and I couldn't remember what all happened. Since this is a trilogy its not recapped like a series book. It ruined the story for me trying to remember what happened and who is who. Now it ends with one heck of a twist. So I will read the next soon to avoid this problem!

I've waited so long for this book and I feel sad. I can't say why because I don't want to give anything away. I will defiantly read the next book. Annie did a fantastic job and the story is well written. Annie definitely delivered a fantastic second book. I can't wait to find out what happens next.

I really liked this book at the end, for most of it, like 60%, it annoyed the hell outa me!!
Finally we got some Rudy and Kan action, at last they have established a relationship of sorts and it was STEAMYYYYYY!!!, that is the most important subject on this book -at least for me-, then all keeps the same: Kan keeps on being a butthead, the team keeps on saving people and bombing settlements going merry about it, there is more information about the Coalition, more information about the virus and the power the settlements are wielding, there are new characters and probably a bright future.
So probably reading this was worthy, I can decide yet, sadly the next book has no date of release so.... this will probably be the last book for me for more than one reason, but the main one was that THE PLOT is unclear and there is a lot of mystery to string the readers around, it all seems inconsequential, what is the quest of Kan, make a better world? save the people?, it seems a lot to take for one person or a team of 10, this is the world we are talking about and just one more book to solve it all.

I gave the first book in this series, "Taking on the Dead" 4*. It was an enjoyable read. About 1/2 way through this book I almost gave up on it because it seemed to just get bogged down and the story wasn't moving. That's why I'm only giving it 3*. Quite a few characters to keep track of and a plot that is kind of confusing at times also contribute to the star rating. After reading the 1st book in this series I couldn't wait to get the 2nd book. At this time, I'm just not sure if I'm going to read the 3rd book in this trilogy.

Kansas Sunshine City Moore is still dealing with her kidnapping and attack in the first book Taking on the Dead as Controlling the Dead takes off. She is still healing both mentally and physically. But she has some really great friends to help her out and take care of her to make sure she gets the rest she needs to heal.
I was happy to see Mac and Rudy are back in the picture. Mac went to visit his mom for a while. I was so glad to see our little trio back together once again. I really like Mac and Rudy but I will have to say that I am team Rudy.
Controlling the Dead is definitely unlike any zombie book I believe I have ever read before. I love this new zombie world. Kansas has picked up some special ability and it is awesome. I loved the world that was created for The Famished in Taking on the Dead and it got even better in book two Controlling the Dead. Yeah the story just seems to get better and better with each book. And now once again I can’t wait to dive into the next book Living with the Dead. What is there to expect with that title? Yeah the title alone is enough to drag you in, right?
Controlling the Dead and the whole The Famished Trilogy needs to be on TV as it reminds me so much of The Walking Dead. We need more zombie shows for all of us zombie lovers out there. Controlling the Dead grabbed my attention from the first page and is still hanging on.
I would definitely recommend Controlling the Dead to all zombie, horror, and post-apocalyptic fans. If you love zombie romantic filled worlds then you are going to love Controlling the Dead.

I loved the world that was created for The Famished in Taking on the Dead and it got even better in book two Controlling the Dead. Yeah the story just seems to get better and better with each book. And now once again I can’t wait to dive into the next book Living with the Dead. What is there to expect with that title? Yeah the title alone is enough to drag you in, right?
Controlling the Dead and the whole The Famished Trilogy needs to be on TV as it reminds me so much of The Walking Dead. We need more zombie shows for all of us zombie lovers out there. Controlling the Dead grabbed my attention from the first page and is still hanging on.
I would definitely recommend Controlling the Dead to all zombie, horror, and post-apocalyptic fans. If you love zombie romantic filled worlds then you are going to love Controlling the Dead.

The relationships that Kan has in this series is what really works well, along with the world/scene building.
Kan continues to regret leaving her solitary and quiet existence, and who can blame her? She wants to help whomever needs it and ends up taking up too many emotional and duty-centered responsibilities. Bad things continue to happen, and there's too many a**hats to try to outsmart. But as all good characters do, she keeps going forward and doing her best.

I liked it, and I liked that but
I wouldn’t say this is the best end of world zombies series I’ve read, but it’s enjoyable enough that I’ll read the last book. I enjoy the action parts, and there was more romance this time.
