May 18, 2015My husband bought this for me for a buck. I think it was wishful thinking on his part, as I don't really cook anymore. Even if I managed to make one of these desserts, I don't expect I'd be able to eat it, as I'm on a rather restrictive diet.
Obviously I'm not planning on cooking these recipes, so I'm not sure how much my review is worth. The recipes themselves do look delicious, but I don't like the authors' organisation. Each section is introduced by a short, and exceedingly saccharine story. I'm sure many women who are fans of Christian fiction would enjoy these, for although they don't mention faith, they are gushing with the flavour of that genre. The dishes mentioned in each story are then featured in the following section. This would probably appeal to some people. I'm just not one of them. I prefer to open up a cookbook and find clearly designated sections, such as muffins, or cakes, than guess at what might be in the section that began with a story about a bridge club. But then again, my opinion is really moot if I'm not going to be using the book.

“You Be Sweet” is a cookbook. But not just any kind of cookbook. In addition to the marvelous recipes there are stories, really good stories written by Amy Lyles Wilson. They are all a lot of fun however the one I seem to like best is Chapter 8, When Neighbors Give You Lemons when a neighbor brings a Lemon Cake to welcome the new arrival and the neighbor seems to already know everything about them. On top of that the recipe for the Lemon Cake is included. Everyone likes a great dessert and this is one cookbook that you will find yourself returning to over and over again. This is also a great book to give to friends and family for birthdays or Christmas presents. They will thank you for it and remember you every time they bake. I recommend this book highly!

This is a cookbook focusing on all things sweet and delicious. The first thing I noticed was the beautiful photographs of desserts scattered throughout the book. Patsy Caldwell takes some of her favorite Southern confections and creates a collection of recipes that you'll definitely want to make at home.
Not every recipe includes a photograph, but there are still plenty to keep you turning the pages. The book is divided into eleven chapters. Each chapter begins with personal stories that will warm your heart and give you background information on many of the recipes included. These were really fun to read.
If you love desserts, you need to read this cookbook. I found that I had most of the ingredients at home already. I am really excited to try things like, Doughnut Bread Pudding with vanilla sauce, pink lemonade cupcakes and the Peach coconut upside down cake. I also have a request from my daughter to make the Red Velvet cheesecake. I'm so happy to add this cookbook to my collection!

My oh, my!! Like taking a walk back through my Southern childhood! There were recipes in this book that I have hunted for the "real" recipe for years and they just weren't right...but in reading these recipes, little things clicked like hearing my Granny say that "such in such is what made it have that something special" or hearing the ladies at a Church "Dinner on the Ground" discussing recipes and one of them saying "You would never guess that it had VINEGAR in it!".
These are where I got my love for cooking, recipes and collecting cookbooks...At my Mother's, Granny's and Mammaw's side watching and listening to them and my Aunts talking and cooking. I have greatly missed cooking in the last four years of being bed ridden but I still love to sit and read recipe Books and have taught my kids to cook from my recliner and bed!
This book is a MUST HAVE for my collection! I will be on the hunt for this book! These will fast become family favorites in our home! I am so glad I got to read and review it! If you are going to get a dessert recipe book...I highly recommend this one!

Oh my, my, MY!! I am in love with this cookbook!! I'll be honest, I bought this cookbook on the strength of my sister's review on her blog, http://cabinfeverreading.blogspot.com.... What an absolutely fantabulous cookbook!! Lots of old friends in here! I've seen numerous recipes for various versions of "Chess Pie" in other cookbooks, but none were as good as the one I grew up on, which has become a family favorite to my kids now. This one has it!! She's has put a spin on our old fried dried apple pies ("Cherry-Apple Fried Pies"), but the basics are all there. Glazed doughnuts, chocolate gravy, grape pie, banana nut bread, buckeyes, jam cake, sweet potato pie...ya'll come eat, now!!

I recently had the opportunity to read this delightful book called, "You Be Sweet, Sharing Your Heart One Down-Home Dessert At A Time." with Recipes by Patsy Caldwell and stories by Amy Lules Wilson. I was given one of my grandma's recipes the other day and went to the store and bought all the ingredients, I made one batch of Dream squares and then had to make several more for family to enjoy. It was so special to have the ability to taste the sweet treat she used to make us and watch my children enjoy that now. The book provides recipes that are special to their Southern family and entwines stories about how they became family traditions and sweet memories. I loved it!

This cookbook is packed full of scrumptious deserts and not-too-complicated recipes. When I first get a cookbook, I make a list of all the recipes I am interested in making as a quick go to reference. This book garnered the longest list to date - I filled most of the front and back of a sheet of paper with recipe titles!

Some very common recipes, along with recipes that really would have benefited from illustrations. Though being a cookbook collector, this had recipes I had never heard of. I did find several I can't wait to try. Easy step-by-step instructions, with every recipe simple to customize into an original creation.

This was a very good cookbook. It had really interesting sections to describe the upcoming recipes such as: "Aunt Carlisle Cuts Back a Bit", "Rev. Boydston Comes To Town". There was a recipe that I know my husband would like; Grape Ice Cream.

Really enjoyed this cookbook ! I enjoyed the stories but most importantly I bookmarked so many recipes it will be a go to book for some time !
