Second Chance of Sunshine

Rate this book
It's 1956, and while many women are doing jobs they'd never dreamed of before the war, Molly Hawkins is chained firmly to the kitchen sink. Her husband Brian believes his wife's place is in the home, but is too idle to seek regular employment for himself. Molly worries that her six-year-old daughter Rosa is going without, but is willing to sacrifice luxuries - and her own happiness - for her little girl to have a dad. Then a family friend dies suddenly, leaving Molly a share in a successful pottery business. To Brian's horror, it's on condition that Molly takes a job at the pottery. Seizing the chance to bring in much needed income, Molly accepts the position, and soon gains strength from her new-found independence. It's a strength she will need to take her through the tragedy that lies ahead...

A 'nice,' easy read. It was interesting that it showed a glimpse of social history; how women's lives have changed since the 1950s. One for bedtime, bath or beach.

another author i enjoy reading her books which are very well written. this book is set in 1956 and its interesting to see how things changed for people after the war years especially women who during war years had freedom to work outside the home having a life of their own and were not willing to go back to the way things had been before the war.
Molly is married to Brian who expects his wife to be at home but he wont seek regular work himself. Molly worries about her daughter Rosa is suffering as a result and going without things but Molly has conflicts as she wants her daughter to have a father.
then a family friend dies and leaves Molly a share in a pottery firm. Brian is horrified when Molly insists that she is taking a job at the pottery. she knows it will bring in much needed income and give her the independence she seeks.
but before long tragedy strikes and what will Molly do?

This was my first book by Pamela Evans. Although it was a pleasant enough read it wasn't' t a page turner. I don't think the author made enough of the era it was set in. It was a book about relationships and each character was well thought out but also unfortunately very predictable. Saying all that I would like to try another book by the same author.

A bit predictable, this was lent to me by a friend, not really my type. Readable but I won't be rushing out to to find more by this author.
