The A Life of Millie Keith novels follow the exciting life and times of Millie Keith, a girl of strong Christian faith growing up on the Indiana frontier in the mid-1800s. Adapted from Martha Finley's 1876 sequel to the popular Elsie Dinsmore novels, these revised and updated, modern-language books introduce readers to yet another delightful Christian heroine.
Martha Finley was a teacher and author of numerous works, the most well known being the 28 volume Elsie Dinsmore series which was published over a span of 38 years. Finley wrote many of her books under the pseudonym Martha Farquharson.
Well, that was not nearly as good as the first six. I have never really liked Millie and Charles together, so this one was just... not my favorite. Also I didn't like that Millie and Charles feel pulled different ways. I did enjoy seeing the family progress, and all the people in the town.
The Millie Keith series was one of my favorite series to read. It's written by Finley, the same woman who wrote the Elsie Dinsmore. However, I found that I was more discouraged reading the Elsie series than I was with the Millie series. The reason being that Elsie is SO perfect in the books, always in the right, etc, etc. I'm not like that, so I was discouraged reading the books. However, when I read the Millie Keith series, I was encouraged by who Millie was. She was just like me! She had her problems with wanting to pinch her brothers right away when they wouldn't listen to her, or being content with what her parents told her to do. But, throughout the series, you get to see her grow in the Lord, and eventually those problems began to go away. She no longer feels the urge to pinch her little brothers, no longer struggles as much to be content with her new life. So, it was more encouraging, to me. The Dinsmore books are good, too. But perhaps I just felt better when I thought I could 'grow with the characters', per se. :)
This was not good. The pacing was weird and I found it difficult to recall what the bigger plot points were because they were rushed past.
We barely heard about the wedding or honeymoon. We barely saw Charles and Millie together. They're just praying and journaling alone so frequently. It feels like I heard more about Otis than Charles and what I dis hear about Charles was the idea of him, not him in reality.
While I enjoy the historical descriptions of travel, the people are treated as background noise. And again, why the detailed travel description without lingering on the big life moments and feelings of Millie as a newlywed? I remember how much the previous books revolved around Millie's love for Charles, why would we nor revisit that and have those feelings now that they're getting married?
I would not read again. I don't really want to read the last one, but I'll muscle through the last 200 pages just to say I did it.

I feel connected to this book slightly more than the others because I am the same age as Millie is in this installment and can see myself in it. However, it reads a bit like the made-for-TV reunion movie you'd see years after a beloved sitcom ends. The characters are the same, but they're also...different somehow. I would've just as much enjoyed a book about Millie's adventures in New Orleans instead of jumping ahead six whole years. Still enjoyable and I'm so glad I picked up this series :)
I enjoyed the balance that Charles character provides for Millie’s. From the moment they had the conversation about what Millie felt called to do, I knew that Charles and Millie would be my favorite couple I have read throughout all The Life of Faith series I have read.
wow......I just love these books! they are filled with wonder, excitement, laughter, sorrow, and joy. Martha Finley did a fantastic job in writing the Elsie Dinsmore and Millie Keith books! when I read this book, I was amazed at how I grew in my faith as Millie grew I hers. this was the first series in which I felt as if I was there, a part of the Keith family. I highly recommend this book for 10+......and when you're done with them, you can put them in your hope chest for your future daughters to enjoy :) this is 7 out of 8......so don't miss reading all the books!
I loved every single one of the Millie Books! I read them when I'm sick of reading or if I can't sleep or if I'm having a bad day. She grows up through the books so I'm always her age. :) The last 2 books are my least favorite, probably because I can't really relate with her life as a missionary. I liked them all the same though!
