I can never quite figure out what it is about the life experiences of Russian authors that makes their work resonate so powerfully with me, but the search led me to this book. It offers one chapter of biography and one chapter on Solzhenitsyn's language and style, while the other chapters are devoted to analysing his published works.
I figure I owe it to these authors to learn more about the oppression they faced, so I can recognize not just the literary brilliance of their novels but also the courage that was required to publish.
