Amanda O'Connell is in a scrape. If she doesn't find a husband while she's in America, her father will marry her off against her will.
Then Christopher Claybourne — a dark, mysterious rogue sentenced to death — inspires a plan. She'll marry him secretly, and then return to England a widow.
Everything works perfectly, until Amanda meets her father's new racehorse trainer. He's gorgeous, he's a gentleman and he's ... her husband! Christopher has escaped, determined to clear his name. Then he'll claim what is rightfully his — his title and his bride!
Rogue's Widow, Gentleman's Wife is an intriguing story about a twisted set of events that brings together two beautiful people together. The story is suspiciously similar to Kathleen's Woodiwiss' "Shanna", which may take from the suspense of the story for Shanna's readers. Since I have read and enjoyed Woodiwiss' Shanna immensely, I was able to predict future events and anticipate the characters' attitudes before they occur - not the best of situations when reading an enjoyable novel. Nonetheless, in my opinion, Dickson was able to change the plot and storytelling just enough to claim some ownership to them. Consequently, I was not bored while reading this novel, but found the experience pleasant enough.
I recommend this book to those who are interested in historical romances involving England and the U.S.
Amanda needs to find a husband before her father marries her off on her return from America to England to the highest titled bachelor. Daringly she goes to the local prison to find herself a husband a man convicted of murder and sentenced to hang. But Kit is not all he seams to be mainly he's innocent. Agreeing to wed this beautiful woman he sets terms to their marriage which Amanda agrees to. After all he'll soon be dead! Months later Amanda is horrified to see her husband alive and well and working as her father's new horse trainer. Furious that she's no longer a widow she fights her emotions and Kit who is determined to have Amanda as his wife in every sense of the word. A brilliant read I loved this book.
