This award-winning multi-published author’s books are available in paperback, hardcover, trade paperback, magazine, e-book, large print, and audio book.
I don't very often give 1-star reviews and the only reason I am on this book is for the level of smut it has in it. If I had known it would have so much descriptive sex in it, I would not have picked up a copy of this book.
The story itself is not bad and if there have been less sex maybe I would have enjoyed it more. The story centers around a young woman, Megan Mulcahy, who lives in a small town called Apple Grove. A stranger, Daniel Eagan, arrives in Apple Grove the day the whole town is at the wedding of a local couple. He has been hired by the town authorities as the replacement coach for the HS Soccer Team. His aunt, Trudi, lives in Apple Grove. Megan and Daniel meet immediately and sparks are already flying. I barely start reading this story and these 2 young people are having sex before they even get to know each other or date. That is where I lost interest in the story. I do not mind if there is sex in the book, I just prefer that it is spoken about but not in graphic detail. I prefer to have it left to my mind to imagine it or not.
Having said that, I did not finish the book. If there are any readers out there that like reading what I consider almost erotica then this is the book for you. I would suggest that the author put some type of comment on the book so people will know and can decide if they still want to buy it or not.
I don't usually rate my DNF books, but sometimes you DNF a book because it is just so poorly written, and you have to let the world know. The dialogue is so stilted and awkward. If groups of people had regular conversations like this it would be the most socially maladjusted town in history. I'm still trying to figure out how the "meet cute" is actually physically plausible. I flipped through to read sections towards the end and the conversational awkward continued in full force with additions of evil ex-girlfriend and moronic ex-boyfriend. Also, one of the parts I flipped to was a sexy times part that made me laugh out loud. So. I'm not wasting any more of my time for this.
I received this book in a giveaway from the author. This had no influence on my review.
A Wedding in Apple Grove was my introduction to author, C.H.Admirand, and I fell in love with Apple Grove. Although this is part of a trilogy it can be read as a standalone. Small town romances really draw me in. This trilogy centers on the Mulcahy sisters: Megan, Caitlin and Grace. They run their fathers handyman business. The townspeople are used to calling on them for everything from fixing a leaky pipe to patching a leaky roof.
Dan Eagan comes to Apple Grove at the recommendation of his Aunt Trudi, an eighty year old who is full of sass and sense. Dan is the new coach of the school football team and also a phys ed teacher. He also comes to Apple Grove to start his life fresh. He wants to forget his ex-fiancee, who flushed his engagement ring down the toilet and also his ex best friend that she cheated on Dan with. But almost right after he gets to town he meets Megan Mulcahy and it seems that his heart wants to lead him instead of his brain. There is something about Meg that draws him right in.
Megan Mulcahy has pretty much helped her father raise her two younger sisters since her mother died ten years ago. She dated Jimmy Van Orden in high school and thought they would get married once she graduated but he had other ideas. He hated Apple Grove and couldn't wait to leave. Meg would never leave. Jimmy left and would come home a couple of times a year and Meg would always be there for him. This has gone on for ten years. When she meets Dan she feels something she has never felt for Jimmy.
This is where the story really draws you in. Will they? Won't they? They are each nursing broken hearts and very skittish about opening up and giving their love to someone else. If you are a Jill Shalvis fan I am sure you will love this book. I am now on to One Day in Apple Grove and know I will enjoy as much as this one. Well deserving of all five stars.
Small town. Everyone knows everyone, plus their business. Meg had a high school love, Jimmy. He left to play football, and returns to Apple Grove periodically. Meg has not dated anyone else since Jimmy. I didn't like that this guy had so much power. Even when falling for Dan, Jimmy was still mentioned. This just didn't work for me. I was more annoyed. I did like Meg's occupation (a handyman- handywoman!). The communication via the water tower was fun too.
I really enjoyed the characters in this book. It was funny and had a homey feel to it. The story line, however, was super cheesy. It had potential, but didn't live up to what I'd hoped. At times I had to figure out who was saying what, because it wasn't clear. Cute summer read, but left a little to be desired.
I purchased this as part of a bundle called SWEET SMALL TOWN - USA series boxed set. Welcome to Apple Grove Books 1-4.
I've read many books by this author and I think this was an earlier book because the writing is not the same.
This is almost instant love. He is a new PE teacher in town and when he first spots the h, he thinks she is 14-15 and could be a student. He then realizes she a little older. The first thing he does is save the h from falling. Next he is kisser her - what? He's a teacher and this is how he wants to make an impression on the town? He's been in town like minutes.
Plus what 29 year old, walks on fences? The storyline did improve as it progressed, but the writing wasn't what I'm used to by this author.
A very simple story, no cheating by our MC, no cliffhanger, HEA, instant romance. Was a cookie cutter storyline about an old flame. I didn't find this story full of smut as a reviewer stated, unless this was cleaned up for the bundle. You know they are having sex, but bedroom door in bundle was closed. I did enjoy the secondary characters. (ljb)
I loved the small town setting. I liked how the girls took over the family business. There were some funny moments and I liked the different people you meet and get to know. But I felt like it was just there. The story didn't flow very well sometimes and the dialogue was very off. I felt like it was just about lust. Even though you have the characters say there is more, the actions speak differently. I feel like the author did great on not going into detail on the sex you knew what happened but it was done very good and left to your imagination. The story was interesting I just felt it lacked depth and connection. I would give the other two books a chance because the story line was interesting.
The way this book started I almost thought it was a second book in the series. However after reading the first chapter, you realize the author just starts the book as if the people are familiar, and develops from there. I enjoyed this story of a woman in a small town who feels like her life has been on hold waiting for her guy. After finally realizing that "her guy" wasn't really hers at all, she is finally able to move forward and out of her rut. This opens her eyes to wonderful new things around her.
As with most romances that are set in small towns, she's just a small town girl who has had her heart broken by the same man too many times. And then, he's just a city boy (sorry, Journey) from New Jersey who comes to Apple Grove for a new job and a new life (ah, another heartbreak). Put them together. Sprinkle in a couple of well-meaning elderly ladies and a best friend trying to snag the love of her life. Will this spell a recipe for disaster, or a healing balm for those who've been hurt? Read on.
The story is full of small town charm. Its residents are lovely, loving people. The romance between Dan and Grace is satisfying and well thought out by the author. It is a happy, fun book. The editing left me wondering what is the connection, what place do these sentences have in the story. A few misnamed people give a reader pause to decide what is happening.
Really enjoyed this read. The young man stops in at a wedding to let his Great Aunt know he is on his way to his new house. Monday he subs for the current athletic teacher as he leaves behind an ex-finance and ex-friend who stole his girl. What happens next is the girl of his dreams falls off of a fence right into his arms.
An almost sickly sweet over the top romantic story, with the usual hiccup you get in these stories, before the happily ever after, that involves the ‘whole’ town…of course! Some cursing, rare profanity, and sex before marriage, but not descriptive. You decide, I got the book as a freebie, otherwise I wouldn’t have bothered.
2 stars. I had a hard time getting through it, because it's so overly-romantic and predictable. Instant sexual attraction. The only things I liked were the repartee between Meg, Honey and her sisters. Full of stock characters, like the elderly great-aunt who gives advice and the gossiping townspeople in a town where everything is sweetness and light. Unbelievable.
While I enjoyed the storyline, there was a lot of repetition ... I KNOW Dan was messed over by his former fiance and his friend, I KNOW Megan thought her ex was going to propose. I don't need you to repeat it every few pages. It got annoying.
Cute book about a handywoman who was walking along a fence and fell into a man’s arms. They kiss later that day and soon after fall head over heels for one another as they try to release the baggage from past relationships
My Review: 5-stars! I loved this book and fully intend to read the other two in the trilogy.
Meghan works with her father and two sisters as the town's handyman. All 597 people of Apple Grove, OH know the Mulcahys, their past and present. There are no secrets in this tiny town.
Trudi owns the garden center and sits on the town council. She put in a good word for the new phys ed teacher and soccer coach, who just happens to be her great nephew, Daniel. Daniel's from the city. Not used to small town ways, but he's adjusting fast.
Meghan had her heart set on Jimmy. But Jimmy got a pro football contract and only uses Meghan as a hook-up when he drops into town to visit his mother.
Dan's been dumped by a cheating ex-fiance and ex-bff who hooked up. And she flushed the diamond ring!
Are they ready to move on? You bet! Check out the message on the water tower! Yes, that's a spoiler, but this is an HEA romance that you know the ending before you begin, so I felt you could handle it.
One criticism in all this is RASP. The author seems to need a list of words to use since she got stuck on the word rasp, so here are a few alternatives for her: groan, screech, squeak, grate, wheeze, grate, grind, scrape, bleat.
This was a BookBub acquisition. My honest review is offered without compensation of any type. All opinions are fully my own. ~ Judi E. Easley for Blue Cat Review
A WEDDING IN APPLE GROVE by C.H. Admirand is not only a fabulous contemporary romance, but a fantastic start to a new series. This small town romance has a fabulous couple and a lot of heart.
Daniel Eagen's drive into Apple Grove, Ohio was to be the beginning of a new start. After a bad break up that broke his heart, he was hoping the job as the new physical education teacher at Apple Grove High School would change his life. Yet before he even makes it to his new home, he rescues a beautiful young woman falling off a fence rail. Their attraction is instant and their budding relationship is the best piece of gossip in town.
Megan Mulcahy can ignore the gossip, but she can't ignore her overwhelming feelings for Dan. She knows things are moving a little too fast, but he has made her feel alive for the first time in a long while. The only problem is Dan keeps putting the brakes on anything that is developing between them. As frustrating as it seems, Meg has to decide if she can wait for Dan to forget his ex or if she needs to move on to greener pastures.
You read A WEDDING IN APPLE GROVE for the romance, but become enchanted by all the other characters. Whether it was Meg's family or all the residents of Apple Grove, they are what made this book an absolute gem. They all had unique personalities that were both charming and entertaining. It's such a diverse group of people, you can pick at least one or more characters that reminds you of a person in your own life. The gossip mill which lets news travel is so much fun to experience. It's not something that is malicious, but all done in fun and concern. It demonstrates how much the community loves each other and helps each other out. It's the perfect set up to experience the best of small towns.
With great characters comes great dialogue. Ms Admirand knows how to craft the perfect scene and interaction between her characters. Plenty of the Apple Grove residents have the spunky, vibrant attitude that makes you laugh. They are quirky people and the way they communicate with one another is very entertaining. Especially Dan and Meg. Their flirtatious manner with one another will have you smiling from ear to ear. The first time they meet, you get to experience just how hot the sparks are flying between them and it was definitely an excellent start to this romance novel. Really, their romance goes full speed ahead from there. They are a very sexy couple and they ignite the pages with their shared passion. There are a few hiccups with Dan and the trouble he has committing which is really the only major conflict in their relationship. His problems can become a little frustrating after a few chapters, but of course it all turns out okay in the end.
A WEDDING IN APPLE GROVE is an easy-going, fun read. There isn't a lot of drama or tension, it really is a light read, which I appreciated. There is just so much to love about this novel whether it be the romance, the small town or the charming characters. C.H. Admirand has started a great series by creating memorable characters that you want to visit again and again. A WEDDING IN APPLE GROVE just goes to prove that Ms Admirand is a great storyteller and has much to offer. I highly recommend this novel if you are looking for a truly heartwarming contemporary romance.
I want to move to Apple Grove. I don’t know how my husband is going to feel about moving to a fictitious town but hey, he would if I asked him to go. I love reading about small towns and all the people the inhabit them. There are some good contemporary series out that have small town feels and I would have to say that C.H. Admirand’s Small Town USA series is going to be one for you to sit up and take notice. A Wedding in Apple Grove is a fun, heart -warming love story where everyone knows everyone’s business and all look at for one another and quite a charming place to reside.
Meg Mulcahy is the oldest of 3 sisters who run a handy man business in the small town and never want to live anywhere else. She has this on and off again relationship with Jimmy, a local boy playing in the NFL now, and she’s been waiting years for him to propose and return to marry her. But she knows that it’s not going to happen and she’s a little disillusioned about love and romance. What she didn’t count on is falling, literally, into the arms of her future love. Meg’s a hard –working, honest, caring individual and loves her family and her town. Dan coming to town sparks something in her and you see her starting to take chances and grow. It warmed my heart that her friendship with Honey B. came first before her own happiness and didn’t want any harm to come to her when she started internet dating. She is the kind of friend I would be glad and honored to have as my own.
Dan Eagan is moving to town to become the new phys Ed teacher and soccer coach when he sees a young woman walking on the top of a fence like it was a balance beam. Seeing that she was about to fall he caught her and they felt an instant attraction which scared him. He’s moving to town to start over from a bad love affair and doesn’t trust his heart to anyone right now but his libido didn’t get the memo. Dan might have had intentions of getting to know Meg before they jumped into bed but sometimes good intentions don’t always work out the way you want them to. I like him and once his side of the story came out I can see why he wanted to go cautiously. Thank goodness he had his great aunt Trudi there to guide him and also the Sheriff to show him the ways to her heart and how it’s done in this town.
Not only did you get one love story but another one between Mitch and Honey B. I thought their story was funny and just showed you the familiarity of all the people in town and how much they know about each other. There isn’t any big conflict to hammer out but sorting out feelings once and for all that Dan and Mitch come to realize. That’s okay with me because I want to come back and see how everyone is doing and what’s new with the people in Apple Grove. Ms. Admirand writes form the heart about small town life and the little things that matter to most individuals, like family, love and friendships. With simple easy to read dialogue and poignant moments dabble throughout the book; she captures the feel of simplicity of life at its best. Definitely a book I would recommend.
At 28, Meg is the oldest of three daughters. They live with their father in a very small town and operate the family handyman business. Meg has always thought she would marry her high school sweetheart, but he has different dreams. The last of the girls from her class is getting married. She wonders if that will ever happen for her. As she daydreams, she literally falls into the arms of the new high school phys ed teacher. And is he hot! They are attracted to each other immediately, kissing before they’ve hardly introduced themselves. However, the past seems to keep getting in their way. Will they be able to overcome and have a meaningful relationship?
I enjoyed the storyline of this book and how it progressed. I also enjoyed the deeper dive into the lives of the characters. I did think Meg was portrayed a bit too immature. There is a small amount of violence in the book, but there is a considerable amount of foul language used. Sex does occur in the book, but it is not graphic. For these reasons, I would recommend this book only to the mature reader who is not offended by off color language.
Good book. I really enjoyed the small town story and all the fun characters. Meg is the oldest of three sisters and the head handyman of the family business. She is something of a tomboy and has given up on the idea of romance for herself. She's had sort of a long distance relationship with her high school sweetheart who has no intention of returning to Apple Grove to live and Meg won't live anywhere else. Her mother died when Meg was nineteen and she took over caring for her dad and sisters. When Dan arrived in town there was an instant attraction that was nothing like she had ever felt before. When they quickly act on their attraction she was ready to jump right in and get to know him better really fast. But Dan wasn't ready to move quite that fast and Meg had to decide if he was worth waiting for or if she'd be stuck in another dead end relationship. I liked the way that she decided to give him a chance and that they worked at their relationship. I also liked seeing how her time with Dan inspired her to make some changes in her own life.
Dan was a great hero. Good looking, a real gentleman, and with a loving nature he had come to Apple Grove for a new start. He had been betrayed by his fiancee and best friend so his great aunt Trudi had encouraged him to apply for a teaching position in Apple Grove. He didn't expect his instant attraction to Meg and he certainly hadn't planned on acting on it. Once he had, he was worried about rushing things with Meg the way he had with his ex, so he tried to pull back and slow things down. This caused some problems with Meg until he was able to explain it to her. He also had some adjusting to do to small town life. I loved seeing him try to get used to the way everyone knew everyone else's business, but he adjusted pretty well. I also liked the way he was so interested in his students, even outside of school.
I thought that Dan and Meg were well matched, balancing out each other's strengths and weaknesses. Once they got past their initial misunderstanding I thought they did a good job of communicating. I also enjoyed all the small town residents and their quirkiness. I liked the way the residents all looked out for each other and pitched in during emergencies. There were some great friendships, like the one between Meg and Honey. They had some wonderful scenes together when they were commiserating over the cluelessness of their men. I really liked the way that they could say anything to each other. The secondary romance between Honey and the sheriff was so much fun and I loved the scheme that they came up with to get him to face his feelings. I also loved the surprise appearance of a character from Admirand's cowboy series, and hope to see more of him.
