Catherine J. Archibald was born on 17 August, and grew up in Oregon, USA. She has always loved books and reading. Even as little girl, she enjoyed making up further adventures about the characters in the books she read as well as writing stories about her own characters. But it wasn’t until she read Jane Eyre at around the age of 12 that she realized she wanted to write... romance novels. Completing a novel, however, turned out to be much more difficult than making up stories in her head!

In the years between deciding to become an author, marrying her Canadian husband, Steve, having three children, enrolling in nursing school twice, she began but never finished many novels. It wasn’t until her youngest child was two that she sat down and told herself that she would complete her book or go to her grave trying. That novel, written on an old typewriter that a friend gave her after finding out that she was working on a book, took two years to finish. Her husband, Steve, seeing how determined she was to become a published author, sold his 1965 Mustang to buy her first computer. He remained a constant and devoted supporter through the seven years of rejections. It was her third completed historical romance, Rose Among Thorns, that Catherine sold to Harlequin Historicals in 1992. It was the culmination of her all her dreams and hard work. She still approaches each book with the same excitement of that first one. Bringing the characters and their story to life are some of her greatest challenges and joys. Each time she helps the hero and heroine discover that being able to truly love and trust in another person only makes you stronger, she renews her own belief in the power of love. With the 2003 release of her thirteenth and last book for Harlequin, Dragon's Daughter, Catherine has lost none of her sense of awe at seeing the names of her characters in print.

After a rich and unforgettable stay of 15 years in Alberta, Catherine now lives with her husband of more than 25 years and her three children in Troutdale, Oregon, near her family again. She loves meeting and hearing from readers and may be reached at the following address: Catherine Archer, P.O. Box 1216, Fairview, OR 97024-1216.

Serviceable, but similar issues with the other of Archer's work I scooped up at the library book sale.

Pacing and structure not great. Some potentially interesting twists/devices that fizzle. The prose gets very ponderous--some from the general mechanics (word repeats, phrase repeats which not bad on its face but can stick out when characters continually have bated breath), some from the olde timey language used.

Leads were fine. Characterizations fine. Not sure the HEA could include winning a keep/lands in a duel without the king's say-so, but we'll go with it.

Can't say it made me want to read the story of the other brothers, same as the dagger series.

Not a bad evening's read but for me not memorable.

O uso frequente de frases e termos tornou a leitura repetitiva e cansativa.

Não sei quantas vezes eu li a expressão "respiração presa".

Dispensável.

Trouble in the area made everyone nervous, but when Annaliese Stanhope was running late to get home, she took her chances on a shortcut. Halfway home she came across an unconscious man that had been stripped of his belongings, including most of his clothes. Not one to leave a helpless man to the weather and wild, she found a way to get him home and asked her father and Aunt to help him. It had been a simple task of delivering the money his sister-in-law owed to the woodworker for a special gift, but then Kendran Ainsworth was set upon by the local menace and changed his plans. Now that Annaliese and her family had helped him and confided in him, he felt the need to find out the truth for her. To help her in return, even if she would never accept the aid or the word of any highborn nobleman.

Book 4 ….. Never really got to see much of Kendran in the other books, so I am not sure what I expected from him. Kendran has the typical Ainsworth self confidence to the point of arrogance, but it didn’t play as well on him as it did on Benedict. Since this was the end of the series, again I think I had too high of hopes for the wrap up of the Ainsworth brothers. There were some good characters that never seemed to be given the time that they could have been given. There was a quick wrap up with a brief mention of the brothers, wives and children, but other than a short visit from Benedict and Raven it was all Kendran. A typical Harlequin Historical set in Medieval time, honestly I liked Spring and Summer’s Brides (Benedict and Marcel‘s stories) better.

I must say I loved this entire 4 book series. So sad that it ended, wish she would have made a spin off book about Raine's brother.
