Widower Adam Schofield had sent for Josie Cross to mother his girls and share his comfortable life. But the stubborn woman was not content to play the docile wife. In fact, she seemed determined to end their chance at happiness before it had truly begun.
Josie's boys had been kidnapped. Swallowed up by the California hills. And she'd do anything to get them back. Even marry a man she'd never seen. Though it didn't take her long to realize that hurting Adam would surely tear her heart in two.
A Bride for Adam by Muriel Jensen talks about two widows who signed into an agreement of “marriage for convenience.” The female character, Josephine Denehy has a strong will to secretly execute her plan with the help of her new husband, Adam Scofield, who didn’t know her lies and pretention.
In my own opinion, this is a light story. No serious drama and no cheating. It’s just the two of them fighting over Josie’s lies and secrets.
My favorite character here is Miles Carver, best friend of Adam. Does he have his own book?
When Josie Cross' husband is murdered, she is falsely accused and her sons are stolen. By the time she has proven her innocence and begun to search for her children rumor has them across the country in California. Her lawyer's request from Adam Scofield in Sacramento, CA, for a proper wife to help raise his daughters seems a perfect opportunity to continue her search. Josie seems to fit perfectly into Adam's family and the girls love her, but he suspects that she harbors secrets. When a rumor causes Josie to take off on her search, their marriage seems threatened. It takes a lot of understanding, forgiveness and love to bring about this happy ending. Well done historical set in 1886.
