This is not a thriller, as the dark shadowy figure on the cover implied. (I have a different version than the one featured on GR. I wouldn't have touched that one with a ten foot pole.)
And I do not like fluffy romance novels. I do not like reading about slender women named wildflower, or tiny men with whiskey-colored eyes. Nor do I like to hear men compare women to trout.
I thought this was a thriller about a woman who suffered amnesia after an accident on a mountain that killed her husband, so she returns to discover the truth. That seemed interesting enough.
But this is actually about a woman who suffered amnesia after an accident on a mountain that killed her husband, so she returns to the mountain to marry another man, and makes sure to never discover the truth.
I thought romance novels were written to sweep us girls off our feet and dream of the perfect man. Well apparently not. Not just this book, but others as well have many "heros" if you want to call them that, and they are complete asses! But in the end they realize they are in love so all is forgiven. I'd want to be swept off my feet if I was the heroine before mr. perfect ever touched me!
Well...I wanted to like this book, but I just couldn't get into it. It reminded me of another book where the well meaning hero does ALL THE WRONG THINGS because he knows what's best to help a psychologically traumitized heroine.
Idioits, all of them.
The characterizations, especially the "extra" characters, were annoying and flat. Just bleh. Her brother-look, NO ONE can be that dense!
The thinly veiled references to the "lost six days" and Rafael's apparent role just got annoying.
That's it! This book just annoyed me. There were parts, however, especially the descriptive narratives about the mountain that were pretty good. Makes me want to move there!

Alana Reeves has amnesia covering 6 days spent on Broken Mountain were her husband is killed in an accident. A Love from her past Rafe Winters comes back into her life and takes her back to Broken Mountain. An amazing written story line and great characters and under currents of nightmare, romance and suspense. If that was all to reading this book I would have given it 5 stars on that alone. But I couldn't stand how often the "6 days" and "I don't remember" were put in the story line, like the reader is too dumb to remember those important facts. Then there is the constant discription of Rafe's eyes - Amber eyes - Whiskey eyes - watching her! I wanted to Scream.
Broken Mountain, oh Broken Mountain, that Broken Mountain ...a little repetitive, and I was a little put off by his moustache, but mostly because that dated the book. :) Overall, though a was a nice, fluffy, quick read.
Not one of the better offerings from this author. Comes across well researched (i.e. the fly fishing and ranching terminology). But it felt repetitive and didnt have the most even pacing. I just don't think country music darlings, ranching and special ops make a great marriage here. The plot needed focus. I didn't feel like there was any real hook at the start of the book and you just got dropped into a story with no real unfurling or explanations of the characters and how they fit into things. The characters didn't have much development at all. And while dripping bits and pieces of the "mystery" into the storyline could be enticing, it was very predictable and transparent.
The book was alright. I really couldn't stand when Rafe would call Alana "wildflower" I cringed every time. I was really confused in the beginning cause I had no idea what was going on, I was like is this going to be more of a mystery or romance. I'm not a fan of this kind of romance. I did like the mystery of her trying to remember what happened on top of the mountain. I did figure out in the beginning that the "dude ranch fishing trip" was probably a setup for Alana. I didn't expect that Stan and Janice were married, I just thought they were hooking up on the trip.

This is one of my all-time favorite books. These characters have depth and are multidimensional. Both Alana and Rafe have endured life threatening situations which tested them to the brink of insanity. Their love for each other shines through on every page and as Rafe helps Alana regain her memories, I cheered for their second chance. There were several punctuation issues throughout this ebook which I did not recall seeing in the hardback version at the library. So although I would normally give this novel 5 stars,I have to give this version 4 stars due to the many punctuation errors.
I’ve never read so many clichés in one book. I was generous giving it two stars because the general plot is intriguing, and the plot itself had potential. Aside from shallow characters, it seemed like the author was trying way too hard to add in twists and turns. Most of the twists only added random distractions to the development of the major conflict. I read this for book club, and I messaged one member with my prediction in chapter 3, and I was spot on. Overall, the book was way too cheesy and predictable for me.
Alana goes up in the mountains with her husband then wakes up with 6 days missing and her husband that is dead. Now it up to her brother to help her get those memories back if she can. This was a fast page turner and a good read.
Very much of an "old style" romance: light on character development, plot and realism. The timeline is far fetched. Based on the copyright date, this is to be expected as the genre has developed since this book was published.
I chose this for the Pop Sugar Reading Challenge prompt: first book you touch on a shelf with your eyes closed. I had forgotten how bad 80's era romance novels could be. The soap opera level "amnesia" drama started on page one and it was just unrelenting for the first half of the book. I just couldn't care about a damsel in distress who was such a frustrating wreck when I had never even seen a glimpse of anything likable about her. And then there was the way the male lead went on and on for pages about fly fishing. It was this whole heavy-handed metaphor about catching a very special trout -- the damsel's childhood nickname was Trout! and then he ends with the line "my hooks have no barbs." Oh, it was so bad.
Esse livro fica no topo da preferência só por não ter um homem misógino na história. De resto, é muito Lowell, com dramas e paixões e todos os clichês possíveis da época.
Alana has amnesia after losing her husband on Broken Mountain, she can't remember what happened the night her husband died or why, suddenly, she can't stand to be touched or why she hates thunder storms. Her brother convinces her to come help with his new business venture, of taking people up Broken Mountain and camping. Reluctantly she agrees. Rafe, the only man she has ever loved and her childhood sweetheart, is there as well after pushing Alana away when her returned from a secret, military mission in the jungle. Rafe has concocted this plan to get Alana's memory back. I like that Rafe was protective and very careful with Alana, he never pushed her too hard to remember or loss his patience with her. Alana wanted to remember but her mind wouldn't let her, and in the end she was brave enough to face what had happened. I didn't like that everybody kept Alana in the dark about what they were planning. She though she was helping her brother but it was a ploy to get her back on Broken Mountain. Two emotional broken people with a lot of baggage healing each other.
Must be an early book because it's one of those "Alpha male does what he thinks is best for the damaged little lady because she can't figure out how to fix herself." Blergh. Alana Reeves suffered an injury on her family's ranch where her husband died, but she can't remember any of it. Her first emotional blow came when the only man she ever loved, the only one who could make her truly feel alive, died and she quickly married a man who was a complete jerkhole and would only help her out if she married him. Their career made them the perfect "Country Couple." But she wanted out. Even though she found out that Rafe Winter was alive and he had rejected her. So husband Jack convinced her to give him once last chance... but that's all she remembers.
Listened to Forget Me Not by Elizabeth Lowell The terrible tragedy Alana Reeves suffered on Wyoming’s Broken Mountain has vanished from her memory. Alana must follow him - for in Rafe’s powerful arms her fears can be conquered, and through his love hers can be reborn. I give this book 3 stars and a 6. A romantic read...
I loved Forget Me Not. Rafe is a hot hero, and I love the way he calls the heroine Alana, "Wilflower". The story centers on the death of Alana's husband while camping on Broken Mountain and the six days of memory Alana has lost regarding the trip. The little catches of remembrance through out the book make you want to keep going until you have every detail and Rafe, Alana's first love, is drool worthy. Ms. Lowell has a way of portraying first loves in her books as majorly sigh worthy and I would recommend her to anyone with a romantic heart.
I did not care for this book or should I say the way the author writes. Every single thing that happens in this book has three pages of description on how it happens. THe intense dramatic way the characters think and speak to each other is just plain unreal and corny. Real people do not speak this way and honestly it just made me want to vomit. I thought about not finishing it but felt I was invested at half way through and needed to see it to the end.
This story, you knew almost before you got through the first 50 pages how this would end. Way, way to early, what saves it from a lower rating is the scenes between the leads is always touching. But the "bad" guy is pretty much identified way to early, I continued to read really because I wanted to see how it unraveled. Not a book I'd recommend to others if they enjoy suspense with their romance. The only thing that's left to find out after page 50 is how.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I thought the plot was great, the characters were well written--the only downfall I felt was the numerous references to Alana's song/music being linked to Rafe--even though there were reasons for that, I thought it too often mentioned. Outside of that, I read it quickly and found it very entertaining.
