EVERYTHING DR. SAGE WEST NEEDED TO KNOW SHE LEARNED FROM ... A BOUNTY HUNTER?

When she trekked into the mountains with Cord Lawson to save a life, she'd thought that book smarts alone mattered. Now one rain-soaked river swim and bare-chested kiss in the sun later, she knew that being alive meant feeling things. But could she survive the heartbreak when her tantalizing tutor resumed his wandering ways?

Life was uncertain, so a man took his pleasures where he found them. That was the law that Cord Lawson lived by. But when he found Sage West, everything changed, for this surprising lady doctor sparked something new in his footloose soul --- a certainty that he'd at last come home!

I was born in Oregon and raised in northern California. While growing up I listened to my grandparents' and my mother's stories about life on the ranch they owned in Douglas County, some miles east of Roseburg.

Later (after I retired from work as a professional editor for an aerospace firm) I began writing fiction based on these stories... my first book was "Western Rose," which is based on the unusual courtship of my grandparents.

A medieval studies major in college, I have also written two medieval novels, one about a Crusader knight and a girl raised in a harem (!) who end up at the court of Eleanor of Aquitaine when she was Queen of England. The second novel is about a Templar knight who falls in love with a young woman troubadour... but of course because of his vows of chastity, he cannot marry.

I hope you will enjoy my books; I always like hearing from readers, so feel free to email me (carolynw@cruzio.com) and also see my website - http://www.lynnabanning.com.

Good romance!

I enjoyed this book! A little slow in places but the story continues to build until you have a very sweet historical western romance. Loved the last part of the book and so glad I read it.

Not As Good

I really like this author so much so that I purchased most of her books ( western). But this book was not as good. The plot was sacrificed for the sexual aspect, thus the rating. She is still a good writer this is the only book out of 7 I've read that I didn't like.

This book is a continuation of Lynna Banning's THE SCOUT and I believe that it is important to read them in order. It is now 1884 in Russell's Landing, Oregon. After 6 years of study, Dr. Sage Martin West has returned to her hometown, ready to work in her chosen profession. Business has been non-existent so far. Thus, she is (momentarily) ecstatic when a bounty hunter, Cord Lawson, needs her for her doctoring skills.

Cord is an interesting character with a unique philosophy -- Life is hard so people should make sure they enjoy what they can. He takes enjoyment from simple things, such as a splendid sunny day and raindrops on his face. He quickly recognizes that Sage is stiff and dedicated to the serious side of life. On their way up (and then down) the mountain, he makes the effort to help Sage see -- and experience -- the wonders of life.

Tension builds when Cord realizes that someone is tailing them, but staying out of sight. Cord and Sage are a study in contrasts; Sage wants to stay in one place and practice medicine and Cord has always wandered wherever criminals roam. He is also very effective at his job of catching criminals and returning them to face justice. We soon learn that Sage is effective as a physician and loves what she does.

The characters from THE SCOUT inhabit Russell's Landing in various ways. Joshua Duquette and his wife own Duquette's Mercantile; while Friedrich Stryker is the enterprising newspaper editor (he's found an interesting way to sell more papers -- write a scathing article about one of the town's citizens each week). Sage is the daughter of Billy West (who is now mayor) and Henrietta Welton West.

This story is a traditional western romance with interesting situations. It is a very pleasant diversion that is fast-paced.
