Definitely one of the cooler superpowers I've seen: the protagonist sees dark lines over every object in the world, including people, and can use any knife to easily cut along those lines. This power has something to do with death, and comes with a periodical uncontrollable desire for murder.
The story, sadly, is nothing special so far. Maybe it gets better later on.

been meaning to read this series. really mid start, not super intrigued, but i already have vol 2 so ill read that and evaluate if i should continue

One of my favorite mangas and animes, I first fall in love with this whole story with the final image of the first episode, watching Arcueid smiling to Shiki and thanking for killing her.
From that I got the whole series and began collecting the mangas, which are a perfect compliment to the series, showing what happens behind scenes and giving us the holes that the series were unable to show us. The first volumen doesn't has a lot of new scenes for us, but what it shows begin to arrange the scenario for a gruesome and dark story where both Ciel and Arcueid while being part of the darkness bring somespark due to one's innocence and the other's cuteness.

What has made me pick up this 74 chapters/10 volumes manga? To be really honest, I have no idea.
♫ I am not particularly fond of the vampire genre.
♫ I have been avoiding slightly long mangas, thus a 74-chapters one should be a no-brainer.
But did I pick it up? Yes. Have I completely finished it in a temps limité? Yes. Did I like it? Yes, yes, yes .
A few reasons why:
✿ It has the elements of mystery and horror.
✿ It slowly unfolds a VERY dark past (I'd die for those kinds of stories if executed well)
✿ It had a few plot twists that I wasn't expecting.
✿ Character development.

What can I say? From the visual novel that changed my life is an adaptation that not only comfortably fits amongst the source material, but in some way shines brighter than the Arcueid route itself.
But really, this review is a chance for me to express just how much this media truly means to me. Each character is lovingly crafted in such a way that their personalities explode from the pages, Arcueid in particular benefitting from this new format. While I won’t touch on any spoilers, I strongly suggest those who enjoy it take the time to check out the Visual Novel it stems from, Tsukihime. To put it simply, there is far more depth to the story than the themes lovingly detailed in this manga.
Tsukihime and, in particular, Arcueid’s story have helped me a lot this year. If anything, it taught me the simple fact that life is our most valuable gift. No matter what happens, the fact we get to greet each day is more than enough reason to keep going. This story is truly beautiful.

I DID NOT READ THIS BOOK. THIS IS A STAND IN LOG FOR MY READING TSUKIHIME A PIECE OF BLUE GLASS MOON ARCEUID ROUTE
Having been a big fan of the Fate series by Type-Moon for some time, I finally took the time to read Tsukihime and can certainly see why it's held in such high regard by fans. It has all the hallmarks of Type-Moon's future work, right down to romances that flourish in spite of hellish circumstances, all to end tragically or at least bittersweetly. It's nice to read a story that doesn't give you what you want by the end of it, since I find overly satisfactory conclusions to be rote or even offensive to the reader. I wouldn't call this VN a piece of high literature or anything, however it more than achieves it's goals, does spark a good deal of thought, and sets up the building blocks of a world that is profoundly nutty and lovely to inhabit, even if it's a tad gooey.

Shiki a un pouvoir hors du commun : il perçoit ce qui se révèle être les lignes de mort qui se trouve partout, sur les objets comme les êtres humains.
Ce pouvoir qu'il pensait maîtriser se trouve mis à mal quand il rencontre par hasard Arcueid, une vampire originelle.
Une bonne lecture que je recommande pour ceux qui aiment les mangas avec de l'action et du sang...

A very fun start to a book filled with Vampires, special sight as well as chaos. A lot of players, hidden agenda's, lost memories and hidden paths. I am really looking forward to seeing where this goes.

Après avoir lu Bamboo Blade, j’ai eu besoin d’un manga plus croustillant, plus intense et surtout un peu plus seinen (même si a l’origine bambo blade était un seinen). J’aime les histoire un peu plus adulte où l’auteur nous amène sur des scène un peu plus gore et des histoires plus intense. Après voir lu plusieurs critiques, Tsukihime m’a paru comme le choix parfait pour faire suite dans ma lecture. Je dois dire que ce manga a mérites ses éloge avec brio.
L’histoire par simplement, un jeune garçon a un accident et se retrouve avec la capacité de voir des lignes sur tout, ces lignes sont des ligne de vie et s’il les découpe il coupe en morceau peu importe ce qu’il touchera. Que ce soit avec ses doigt, un couteau ou tout autre objet, Shiki a la capacité de coupé tout comme du beure. Seul problème ce don a réveillé un désir sanglant chez lui qui l’amène a croisé un puissant vampire qui demandera son aide pour éliminer des méchants vampire qui rôdent dans la ville.
Bien que le style vampire et été échaudé et réchauffé trop souvent, ici on a droit à un manga extrêmement bien bâti et surtout très enlevant. Les scènes d’action et l’histoire sont extrêmement bien rendu et j’ai eu un plaisir à lire les 10 livres de cette série. Les révélations se font volumes par volumes et bien qu’on ait pu souvent deviner la suite, certaines surprises nous gardes accrochés à cette histoire vraiment très attachante et agréable à lire. Le côté adulte de l’histoire ajoute un piquant qui relève ce plat qui aurait été quelque peut fade sous forme shonen pour garçon.
Les dessin sont très agréables et les scènes d’action incroyablement bien rendu. Je n’ai aucune critique sur ce point là et je ne m’attarderai pas sur le sujet. Un coup de crayon efficace.
Finalement, le monde et l’ambiance est vraiment bien travaillé. Venant d’un jeu vidéo de type nouvelle graphique, il est évident que l’histoire se devait d’être étoffé. On a pourtant l’impression que certains personnages auraient dû avoir plus de place, mais au moins l’histoire centrale s’est rendu à échéance. Ce manga n’est pas sans défaut, mais ses qualités surpasse de loins ceux-ci et je me dois de dire que ce manga est un must à lire.
Je recommande donc ce manga a tout fan de vampire, d’histoire plus adulte et à toute personne amoureuse des manga et qui veut lire un titre de qualité.

J'avais lu ce premier tome il y a maintenant six ans, et quand je l'ai vu dans la bibliothèque d'un ami, je lui ai emprunté, histoire de me remettre dans le bain. Et pour le coup, j'ai bien fait! Je compte me faire cette série quand j'aurais fini les autres :)
Ce premier tome met en avant Shiki, une jeune homme qui, depuis un accident, voit des lignes sur les personnes et les objets. En suivant ces lignes avec une lame, il est capable de tuer instantanément et de détruire tout ce qu'il veut. Huit ans après, il croise une jeune femme dans la rue et la tue, sauf que le lendemain, elle est là, bien vivante, car c'est un vampire...
Un tome d'introduction plein de promesses et qui se targue d'avoir de gros scènes d'actions dès le départ, dans un univers totalement mature, voilà l'idée d'un chouette manga que je me fais, et Tsukihime l'a fait. Les personnages sont réfléchis, et se posent des questions sur leurs actes, s'intéressant plus à l'ennemi qu'à la poitrine des filles d'à côté. Et sérieusement, ça fait du bien.
Côté graphismes, le trait est simple mais précis (tout comme l'intrigue). On a à faire à un manga épuré, si épuré que ça en fluidifie la lecture, Sasakishonen ne se perd pas dans les détails. Les personnages sont bien définis, reconnaissables très facilement, que l'on soit en plein flashback ou non.
En bref, que ce soit l'intrigue ou graphiquement, Tsukihime est un manga qui se laisse lire et apprécié, avec une certaine légèreté qui ne dérange pas, malgré le côté "mature" que veut donner le mangaka à sa série.

Summary: Introducing Arcueid Brunestud, probably one of the most not-vampires I've ever seen. After being cut up by Shiki Touhno, a mild mannered high schooler, she needs him to protect. For reasons that are still unknown to me so far.
Shiki Touhno has the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception, a power that enables him to see the lines of death, and enable to kill anything. In this volume Arcuied needs Shiki to help her kill another vampire, Nero Chaos.
My opinion: This is my first manga, and I was very impressed. I finished the anime 2 days ago, and found it to be a pretty decent adaptation. However, the manga is more in-depth for the characters and the story. They're very rushed in the anime(It's only 12 episodes).
This manga also draws some comparisons to TYPE-MOON's other series,Kara No Kyoukai. Mainly because the main character, Shiki, shares the same first name as the main character of Kara No Kyoukai. They also share the same power, The Mystic Eyes of Death Perception.
Overall it was thrilling experience, and the art is surprisingly good.

What a shocking first volume! So much revealed so much unanswered! Some people say in order for a first volume to be a success it must catch your interest completely. If that's the case this was a bulls eye.
It seems as though the bulk of main characters were introduced and even though some of them are normal a lot of the main characters have secrets. I am very interested in learning more about Ciel and Brunestud.

The original visual novel is far better as expected. However, the manga version is interesting and entertaining.
