Billy Graham was an American evangelical Christian evangelist and an ordained Southern Baptist minister. Graham is best known for his evangelistic missions or “Crusades.” He believed God knew no borders or nationalities. Throughout his career, Graham preached to millions around the world. He met and prayed with every U. S. president from Dwight Eisenhower to Barack Obama.
Graham authored 34 books, including his memoir, Just As I Am. In 1983, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Ronald Reagan. In 1996, Graham and his wife, Ruth, received the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest award Congress can bestow on a private citizen.
Graham married Wheaton College classmate Ruth Bell Graham in 1943. They had five children ( Ruth Graham, Gigi Graham Tchividjian, Anne Graham Lotz, Nelson, & Franklin Graham) and made their home in the mountains of North Carolina. They were married for 64 years before Ruth’s death in 2007. Graham died from natural causes on February 21, 2018, at his home in Montreat, North Carolina, at the age of 99.
Like most devotionals, Hope for Each Morning & Evening contains great truth and kept my year focused on the Word. However, because it was written very evangelically, at times it was hard to relate. At this point in my walk with the Lord, I'm not looking to be convinced of God's existence or even sovereignty, but for daily renewal.
I was given this book as a Christmas present and was really looking forward to inspiring devotions from the man who is a pillar of strength to many in the Christian community. I was incredibly disappointed in the shallowness of the morning and evening devotions and surprised that Rev. Graham did not really provide much food for thought. There are a great number of excellent devotional books out there, but in my opinion, this isn't one of them.
I have read this book several times and will continue to read it as long as I am able. Billy Graham is truly a man of God and can sometimes look right into my heart. This devotional helps me to begin and end each day with thoughts of my God.
Graham is like a Ford pickup truck: solid, dependable, and popular. I almost didn’t use this devotional because it is a bit shallow, especially compared to something like My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers. But I figure the Lord has food for me if only I will pause to find it. I’m glad I stuck with it. I used it a bit differently than was intended. Each morning I read both readings for the day then selected the one I wished to respond to in my devotional journal. Occasionally I took parts from both readings.
What can you say about Billy Graham? In this devotional he puts wisdom and putting God's words in practice. I like it that it had a morning and evening reading. Don't miss this devotional.
This was an excellent book and I would recommend this book to any one who wants an excellent read.I look forward to reading more of this author's work.
This is one of the most uplifting devotional I have had the pleasure of downloading and reading, praying and sharing his encouragement to others. If you want a great example of Christ exuding from every pore look no further than Billy Graham.
When you are sad, when you are tired, when you are doubting ... this is the book for you. Filled with love and wisdom few short sentences a day make all the difference for any pilgrim bound to the Kingdom.
Very nice devotional with thought provoking inspiration. I enjoyed it very much and would highly recommend it to others. Billy’ Graham was a wonderful preacher and teacher.
An excellent daily read I recommend for everyone. Especially since it was written by a man everyone knows and one that I don’t recall having any sort of controversy associated with him which is very hard to come by with modern religious figures I must say.
I liked that there was a morning and night read. It helped me stay reading everyday. I will probably read it again. I recommend reading this book if you want to get closer to God.
1. Make sure God is at the Center of your life. 2. Be vigilant on being positive. 3. Love thy neighbor even when they annoy you. Pray for God’s love. 4. Be kind.
This is an awesome devotion book. Through out this year it really encouraged me. The word of God comes through and touch your spirit. I also brought this book for my mother.
I received this for Christmas three years ago and started out strong, however...it took me over two years to finish...after I gave up finding the "right" date and read it straight through, entry by entry. A third of the book was profound, a third unrelatable to me, and another third ho hum or too preachy. (Perhaps calling it too preachy isn't completely fair given the life's work of the author. He is a remarkable man, whom I admire.)
This is a book I read year after year for daily devotions. Billy Graham's understanding of God's Word and the affects on our daily lives makes this book well worth reading. In addition, after reading the devotions for several months, in addition, I've added reading the Bible book by book to my daily devotion schedule.
He's a bit too fundamentalist for this Catholic girl. But it is a nice daily reading. My brother bought it for me. It was a thoughtful gift and I when I pick it up each day I think of my brother's love.
It's a devotional that you'll read everyday for the whole year and will do it again every year. A book that must be present in every family's collection. Truly by reading it I was able to find hope and peace that only comes from God. Highly recommended to all humanity.
