When Fred and Anthony are faced with their unfinished history project, they come up with a great pay someone else to do it. There's just one they have no money. Luckily, they have plenty of schemes for making quick dough. So, after a paralyzing case of writer's block forces them to abandon careers as best-selling authors, they ride around town on their skateboards, trying to get "old people" to hire them. But Fred and Anthony never imagined that in their quest to avoid work, they would stumble into a portal to the Netherworld, where terrifying (or just plain wacky) encounters with ghosts, monsters, and other paranormal creatures eerily echo the plots of their favorite horror movies . . . We're launching with two titles and following with one a season thereafter.
Fred & Anthony want to do is goof off and watch horror movies. They want to get someone else to do their homework but don't have the money to pay them. There adventure through Netherworld is so funny that you will find yourself rolling on the floor. I laughed so much reading this book that I had tears running down my face.
Fred and Anthony would much rather goof off and watch horror movies, and pay others to do their homework and chores. They decide that helping old people find their teeth and get coffee will help with their cash flow. They end up trapped in an old lady’s haunted house and plunge into the Netherworld through the guest powder room and they meet Dr. Frankenstein. He’s intent on extracting their brains but they are rescued by a nice guy in corduroys and a work shirt...who turns out to be a werewolf. They flee the werewolf only to run into Dracula (actually the clerk at their video store). The rampant goofiness, sarcasm and gross stuff (“The Evil Clown Coming Out of a Coffin Filled with Eyeballs and Cat Barfâ€) will appeal to Captain Underpants fans.
Author Elise Primavera has fun with anagrams. Funny, with a nod to Captain Underpants and other kids' books. Fred & Anthony's get-rich-quick scheme by writing kids' books ("I heard that J.K. Rowling is richer than the Queen of England")doesn't exactly pan out, but they do learn some valuable lessons about friendship.
