Condoms were tested and a few harmed during the writing of this story.
It's not every day a girl inherits a condom company, and to say accountant Alice Beasley is astonished and out of her depth is putting it mildly. For an almost virgin, she needs a quick education in all things condom because her inheritance is in danger. Someone is intent on sabotage and trying to destroy her new company.
Alice is suddenly getting down and dirty with charismatic James, the factory manager, all in the name of business, testing new condom designs. The sex is hot. Mind-blowing. It's a dark thrill and an erotic journey. Yeah, it's a hard job, but a girl's got to do what a girl's gotta do.
The testing turns personal. Alice wants James. She craves his talented touch and sultry kisses, she desires passion and physical pleasure on a permanent basis but first she must convince bad-boy James to give up his fancy-free ways.

USA Today Bestselling author, Shelley lives in Auckland, New Zealand with her husband and a rambunctious puppy.

Typical New Zealanders, Shelley and her husband left home for their big OE soon after they married (translation of New Zealand speak - big overseas experience). Enduring memories include being almost sat on by a mountain gorilla in Rwanda, lazing on white sandy beaches in India, whale watching in Alaska, searching for leprechauns in Ireland, and dealing with ghosts in an English pub.

While travel is still a big attraction, these days Shelley is most likely found in front of her computer following another love - that of writing stories of romance and adventure. Other interests include watching rugby and rugby league (strictly for research purposes), being walked by the dog, and curling up with a good book.

After reading the synopsis of the book I thought it would be steamy with this hot hero with a heroine that would be likable. Sadly I found the hero James who was a lothario to be just meh & the heroine Alice, well there was so much I didn't like about her it's borderline ridiculous.

Alice is a conservative girl that inherits her godmothers condom company called Fancy Free. Except there's a stipulation, she has to stay with the company for 6 months before she actually receives her inheritance. She freaks out a little because she knows nothing about the condom business & she's not experienced in the sex department. In fact she was so naive (almost stupid) about sex it was weird & embarrassing. As Alice likes to say she's an "almost virgin". She decides to stay with the company because she wants her full inheritance and with that her boyfriend "that she's practically engaged" (that was mentioned a few times in the book) to leaves her. Which now brings us to James the manager of Fancy Free Condoms. James is a notorious playboy with a reputation of getting around and he's somehow attracted to Alice. Long story short Alice & James have to test the new condoms for the company. With Alice & James as the guinea pigs for the condoms needless to say it opens up Alice's sexuality.

There were so many ridiculous things going on in this book it was almost laughable & the sex was anything but steamy. It was weird, awkward, boring & at times peculiar. There were times I cringed at the sex between these 2. There was also this whole weird thing about a cult going on that was against the condom company. I mean it was just plain weird and creepy.

This book just wasn't for me. I struggled with wanting to finish it. At times just to get through it faster I would skim pages, skip some of the narrative & just read what was in quotations.

The last thing Alice is expecting when she goes to the reading of her godmother's will is that she is about to inherit a condom factory. The fact that she has to agree to run the factory for 6 months in order to keep her inheritance makes her more than a little nervous but she has always wanted to feel financially secure and this is the perfect opportunity. With someone causing all kinds of incidents at the factory it soon becomes clear that Alice's future isn't quite as secure as she thought it would be though and she becomes even more determined to make sure the business is a success. Alice finds herself working closely with the factory manager James and it isn't long before the sparks between them start to fly, so, when they need to keep the testing for a new range of condoms very closely monitored, it seems only natural for them to carry out the tests personally. Alice knows that James is planning on leaving the town when his six month contract is up but surely she can enjoy a few months of hot sex without ending up heartbroken when he is gone?

Fancy Free is a very light hearted and amusing erotic romance, the characters are quirky, the sex is plentiful and it was a very quick and easy read that kept me entertained. I did have a few issues with the story but overall I'd have to say I liked it. Alice is very innocent and quite naive at the beginning of the story, she is dating someone who treats her like dirt and seems to constantly put her down all the time but thankfully she has a backbone and she quickly kicks him to the kerb when she realises how much he has always taken her for granted. She has very little experience with men and sex so she is quite shocked by the products the factory makes and by the way her new colleagues discuss everything so openly. It was quite amusing watching the others tease her and it doesn't take her too long to let her inner bad girl out to play.

The chemistry between her and James was great, in a lot of ways they are opposites but he seems to really respect her and they make a good couple. The sex was undoubtedly hot but I have to admit there were a few instances where the words used turned my stomach rather than turned me on - I don't think it is possible to use the word squelch in a sex scene without making me cringe and it was used twice on the same page at one point which was more than a little off putting. Luckily that wasn't the norm though and most of the interactions between Alice and James had me fanning myself. I would have liked to have got to know James a little better, I never really felt that we got to know what really made him tick and I especially would have liked to have seen more of a confrontation with his mother and sister after the way they treated both him and Alice so badly.

I found the plot about who was trying to sabotage the factory interesting and I hadn't guessed the outcome until just before the big reveal. I did end up feeling very confused when the story jumped forward in time by 3 months though. It would have made sense if something had changed during that time gap but it hadn't - in fact the creepy stalkers who were harassing Alice with weird gifts and by following her around the town dressed in strange costumes had taken a break from contacting her for the 3 months and only started causing again when when the story was picked up. I couldn't understand why the stalkers suddenly stopped for 3 months or why Alice hadn't thought to mention it to anyone in all that time in spite of the fact that is what she had been so scared by their actions. I found things made a lot more sense when I pretended that the 3 month gap had just never happened so that's exactly what I did. Overall Fancy Free was a fun story with a cute romance and a little suspense around the factory sabotage. It was my first book by Shelley Munro and I enjoyed it enough to check out more of her books in the future.

I really enjoyed this book.

As with a lot of Ellora’s cave books, it is unique in its themes, with romance and suspense aspects thrown in as well as being pretty funny in parts.

Alice inherits a condom factory!!! And there is where the fun begins, she is not what you would call experienced in the bedroom department so feels wholly out of her depth. Unfortunately she can’t just sell the company on, without staying at the helm for at least 6 months.

Her boyfriend is a self obsessed ass, and is more concerned about how Alice’s plight will reflect on him, rather than what it means to her, especially after a particularly difficult childhood.

As you would expect, we get our alpha male in the form of James, the current manager, and his unconventional condom testing methods!!!

A great, fun, enjoyable and sexy read. ARC provided by Netgalley in exchange for the above honest review.

I thought Shelley Munro's idea about a condom factory was cute and a little quirky. Unfortunately I never really could get into Alice and James as a couple or as individuals. There was an underlying mystery that moved the plot along but some of the occurances just didn't make sense to me.

I loved this book! It was my treat to me, a guilty pleasure that I thoroughly enjoyed! Alice arrives in town to find out what her Godmother has left her in her will, she's shocked to find out it's a condom factory. It couldn't have come at a better time for Alice, she doesn't realise it but she's heading towards a huge mistake, 'almost' engaged to a pompous ass of a lawyer called Stephen who's never done more than kiss her, control her and put her down. All the poor girl wants is some financial security and to own her own home.

As soon as she arrives in town she spots the hunk that is James, she has to work with him for six months in order to inherit her considerable bequest. James is experienced, and in her own words Alice is an almost virgin, although you never really do have that explained. She's so inexperienced everything shocks her, including her sudden desire to get down and dirty with James.

The board of the company are all retired folk who have no qualms about testing out the new prototypes, but decide to play a trick on Alice and suggest she and James do the new product testing to avoid any further sabotage. Of course they fall for each other but spend most if the book thinking that the other one doesn't like them.

There are some real laugh out loud moments and it's hilarious reading the carrying ons in the board room, and enlightening discovering the lengths they go to in product testing.

I love the way Alice's character develops through this book, she comes out of her shell and starts to believe in herself and her appearance, and her interactions with the retired board members just seem to get better and better, they're a bunch of randy old matchmakers and I love them to bits.

There's a hint of a suspense throughout the book, who is the saboteur and why, and it keeps you guessing in a good way. It also brings in a second possible love interest in Luke, James best friend and local policeman who makes it clear he's interested in Alice.

Alice constantly compares herself to Alice in Wonderland, feeling she's fallen down the rabbit hole and she's landed in a strange new world, you can see how she'd think it with clowns and dogs at every corner and a busybody columnist trying to destroy her reputation to boot.

It's a really light, humorous and thoroughly enjoyable read that I'd be happy to recommend to my friends.

I'm rating it 3,5 Stars . This book is a fun read, with an original plot and good characters. It's a mix of mystery, romance and comedy. You will laugh out loud at moments and be captivated at others. You'll also want to discover who's behind all these events going on.

Alice was shocked to learn her inheritance was Fancy Free, a condom company that her godmother possessed before she died. But the thing is, Alice doesn't know anything about condoms or even about sex in general (that part was kind of annoying..). She's an accountant, had a "relationship" with a boring lawyer and has 6 months to improve this business and learn everything that the sexy James knows.

The "oldies" of this town were just so fun. They're trying to matchmaking the two of them (Alice and James) by making them test those new condoms together and it worked. They're nosy and frank when it concerns sex.

This is a good read with some sexy moments between the two main characters. This isn't the typical storyline we could find all the time, it was entertaining and I liked it.

This was another book that I started reading, that I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started it. But let me say this, I was not prepared for this book AT ALL. And that was a really good thing in my opinion. Holy crapsauce man, this book had some parts that were just hilarious to me.

I am not sure I would have done in Alice’s shoes, but I did enjoy watching the journey that she went on during the course of this book. Of course there is James as well, who is just off the walls hot, and I mean off the walls. I think I would stick around just for him!

There is drama, suspense, romance, knitting needles and of course sex in this book and it just keeps getting better with each page that turns. There are some parts that will leave you laughing, some parts that might freak you out, and parts that will leave you on the edge of your seat running to take a cold shower.

All in all, I would recommend this book to friends of mine because it has a great plot line, and there wasn’t too much extra information that could only lead to confuse you. It was written very well in my opinion and I would read others in this series.

Now... Even though this was one of those HOT books, it was hysterically funny!

When your staff is a bunch of old people wanting to test out the condoms themselves & they talk openly about the styles designs & colors of these condoms... You have to laugh!

The author lives in New Zealand, so the Austrailian humor is different. Although this book came across, at first as totally nonsensical & unrealistic, it still had appeal.

I laughed out loud a few times at this total prudish girl, Alice, inheriting a condom company that has anti-birth-control protesters jumping out at her saying how bad condoms are. All the while she notices & goes after her co-manager, James, who has wanderlust & itches to move on from this company when his 6 months are up.

It's a cute quick read, that isn't to be taken seriously, but is entertaining as well as HOT!

This was kinda cute. A near-virgin inherits a condom company. Alice had her life planned out with a guy who was so buttoned-up, he never really touched her. She thought they'd get married. When she wouldn't give up the condom company, he left her. Nice guy. Good thing James -- beautiful, charming James -- is there. Not that Alice was all that torn up about her ex, but there was definite chemistry with James. Too bad he's leaving when his commitment to the company is complete. But in the meantime, they can have lots of fun testing their products, right?

It was a sweet story, just a little hokey and weird with the clown and dog and the cult and the gossip columnist.

This book starts off really strong with a witty plot about a woman who inherets a condom company. Add in a few old folks who sit on the board and poke fun at the couples who 'test' their product and you have a refreshing plot line. Especially when the acting manager is willing to test the product with the heroine. Unfortunatly toward the end of the story the plot is overshoweded by the erotica factor, taking away the thrill for me as a reader.
I did enjoy the book and will look for more from this author.

My ability to suspend disbelief and settle in and enjoy this bit of erotica was strained here. It felt a bit like bad porn. The heroine was fine but the hero was okay. The secondary characters were all annoying. The sex scenes were much more emotionally engaging than the rest of the story. This one didn't more for me. I am fairly picky about contemporary erotic though so it may be to your taste.

I was given this book for my honest review and so there you have it.

What happens when an "almost virgin" inherits a struggling condom company that is getting it's latest ideas stolen by the competition? Obviously you volunteer for the testing of new products! Add in some protestors that are against the use of condoms and some feisty seniors on the executive board and you have a fun romance that finds plenty of opportunities to test out those condoms. Oh and by the way the inheritance requires working with a hot manager, perfect test subject material!

Fantastic modern romance from Shelley Munro. Alice feels like her Wonderland namesake when she is called to attend the reading of her godmother's will in the NZ town of Sloan. There is no shortage of strange people and a white rabbit sighting seems imminent. There is one gorgeous man that seems out of place in the strangeness and she wouldn't mind falling into a rabbit hole with him. When the reading is done Alice finds herself the almost owner of a condom factory, she has to stay in town and learn the business for six months and she will be $300,000 richer. Oh, and she gets to work with the hot man, James, that she couldn't take her eyes off of earlier.

This is only the start of the wacky tea party. There is a new line of condoms that needs testing and she and James are up for the challenge. Well, James is. Alice is an almost virgin who is not quite sure what she is letting herself in for, but that isn't going to stop her. You will laugh at the situations she manages to get herself in and cheer when she finally starts standing up for herself. Throw in the bunch of oldies on the company board who love to tease her and a cult of condom haters and you have a great story that you don't be able to put down.

I read this story as part of a box set that I received as a gift from the author. My review is voluntary.

Protection is a fantastic contemporary romance by Shelley Munro. Ms. Munro has given readers a well-written book. I liked the quirky characters in this story. They made it a fun read. Alice is shocked to discover her godmother has left her a condom factory in her will. James is the factory manager but only for another few months. Alice and James' story is packed with drama, humor, smokin' hot sexy bits, action and suspense. I enjoyed this book from start to finish and look forward to my next book by Shelley Munro. Protection is book 1 of the Fancy Free Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

What no Werewolves

This was the first non supernatural book that I've read in a very long time. But what it lacked in shifters and witches it made up with a different kind of magic.

It was well written and easy to read, It was also easy to slip into Alice's skin and feel what she felt. The sexy scenes were believable as was the dialogue. I am so over some of the names some authors give to the more intimate parts of the human anatomy.

Shelley tells it like it is. And it was good.

Somehow this book made me feel unsettled, mainly because of the stuff that happened to our MFC Alice. I would have left Sloan in a heartbeat if things like that happened to me, but a good thing did happen. She found love from somebody who is a complete 180° compared to her ❤️ The story itself was good however I felt like it was revolving around s3x a bit too much and those scenes felt kind of boring/repetitive. Other than that it was an okey read, but I won't continue with the serie.

Interesting

When I first read the blurb on this book about a condom company, I have visions of what to expect. I was surprised and happy to read a well written intriguing story. The author has found a way to add in suspense and erotic romance (condom testing) without it being trashy. I cannot wait to visit Sloan and Fancy Free again.

Fancy Free (Fancy Free 1 ) Shelley Munro.

ARC provided by Netgalley.

This was a fun read, part romance part light-hearted thriller, quick and easy to read. It's one of those books that don't need to much concentration and you can just enjoy the writing and humour without worrying about who is who, and where they fit in the story. Sometimes we need a book like this, one which will entertain and leave us feeling good. Everyone needs a fun escape from the realities of life sometimes.
Anyway Alice inherits a condom company from her godmother. She's had little contact with her and so finding out about the company came as a shock, not least because of her very strict church going parents who'd instilled in her the notion that sex was not talked about. Her boyfriend, a lawyer, sees it as disgraceful and wants her to pass up on it, he's worried it will reflect badly on him. He's a selfish individual, and Alice seems to be with him for security rather than love. Having seen poverty as a child security is ultra important to her. However she has to stay with the company for six months to inherit the money she's been left, and the current manager James ( ah James ….Mr sex on a stick!!) has agreed to stay for that time and show her the ropes. Through a series of disasters the necessity for the companys' latest condoms need testing quickly, but as there's been a leak somewhere Alice and James need to do the testing. Alice is very lacking in sexual experience, calls herself an almost virgin, and there was certainly nothing more than a mild kiss between her and her boyfriend. Still, that relationship is gone now, he left when Alice said she was staying.
She gets engrossed in the running of the company, and the board of elderly but very active and funny members. She sees that rather than something to be ashamed of, which was her first reaction to the company thanks to her parents and her strict upbringing, that its actually a good thing, condoms are needed for many reasons and certainly the area needs the employment it brings. She and James have great fun testing (lots and lots of fun!!) and she becomes very attracted to him, but all the while she needs to keep reminding herself that he's leaving to travel at the end of the six months.
There's some great characters here, from the board of oldies, the anti condom group in the village, James family, and of course Alice and James. Its easy to see where the story is going, but its a fun time getting to the conclusion and some interesting , humorous, sexy diversions along the way.
Its a well written story, with some amusing sub plots and some spicy sexy moments between James and Alice. Amazing value at only 57p for 266 pages, its a one off read for me, but for lovers of light-hearted romance it may be one for the keeper files. Its certainly good quality of writing and an entertaining and amusing read.
Stars: four.
