A Talent Ignited

Rate this book
Evelyne, a disowned noblewoman, and Annika, a peasant girl with unusual powers, made the choice to be together in a kingdom where men make the rules. Now the Temple elders want Annika for murder and mercenaries want Evelyne for theft. But when Evelyne is abducted and Annika believes she has been abandoned, they must risk everything to find each other again.

Annika discovers the Temple has imprisoned children with abilities like hers, and she alone stands between them and death. She’s forced to face her fear of her own powers and soon learns to use them with the help of Zuri, a former slave who is also gifted with magic. Evelyne, no longer entitled to the favors and respect bestowed on the nobility, must convince her beautiful captor to help her return to Annika.

Doubt and questions plague them both, but one thing is for certain. The Temple has a long memory, and a familiar foe is coming for them.

This is the second part of the Valmoran series, in which its protagonists, unwittingly, must face a destiny on which many other people depend, in a dystopian/fantastic future/past.
Annika, after the events of the first part, goes in search of answers for which she must find Zuri and face many dangers and challenges to do so. And when she manages to find it, it is Evelyne who will suffer the consequences of their final confrontation from the previous book, which will put her through difficult situations but which will also shape her.

The group that formed at the end of the previous episode is still together, with some additions, and the dramatic events of this second book leave the future open, with hope but with the risk that characters who were considered missing will reappear.

Like the previous one, it is a fantastic adventure, with a bit of romance that, although it is basic for the two protagonists, is not so essential for the story itself. It's not a story for everyone's tastes, sure, but it's entertaining and the plot grabs you. I hope to follow it to the end.

Publisher Bold Strokes Books was kind enough to provide me with an advanced reading copy via Netgalley for an honest review

I received an ARC copy of this book from the Publisher via Netgalley and voluntarily leaving my review.

Evelyne and Annika continue their journey but in the process gets separated. As they both struggle to find each other Annika is getting trains to harness her talents because we learn her talents is going play a bigger role but she as learns someone wants her talents. Evelyn wants to just be with Annika as she gets more training for her skills despite the fact she lost her noble status as they prepared for something they get help along the way as they help others. Great continuation to the series can’t wait for the next one.

Eagerly awaited sequel to “A Talent Within”. It was a bit slow going at the start but soon picked up. Evelyne and Annika get separated. The story hops between them during their time separated. Annika is getting instructed in how to control her talents and Evelyne trains more in fighting techniques. The story is of course more exciting than this. It goes a bit further into what Annika is going to be expected to do with her talents. The ending again implies there will be at least one more book in the series. Hope it won’t be too long before it’s published.

Great 2nd book in the series and could stand alone. Captivating again just like A Talent Within. The story took unexpected turns and kept me wanting more every page I read. Hopeful for a third book in the series to follow these characters on their next journey.
