As part of the research for my second novel which is set in the desert, I ordered a wide array of books about the Mojave and desert climates in general. While I wouldn't recommend this book for adult readers, it's a good choice for MG readers. With some quizzes, lists, and anecdotes about survival in the desert, it gives a combination of useful survival tips, history of desert expeditions, and a sense of the flora/fauna of deserts around the world. While I'm not sure if any of the stories found in this book will wind up in my novel, I'm of the school that more information is better than less, so I appreciate my time spent learning from this author.
