Books in the Hide and Seek series provide an entertaining introduction to some of the words that tell us where things are. This book looks at ""Inside"" and Outside, and features an animal character called Eddie the Elephant who is playing hide-and-seek. On each spread, Eddie is hiding using one of the two opposite words featured in the books title, and the reader is asked to find him. The fun, cartoon-like design combined with the interactive hide-and-seek approach makes these books visually appealing for young readers and great to read aloud together.
The "Where's Eddie? Hide and Seek" books introduce opposites to young children, demonstrating the concepts by first having a cartoon elephant in photographs explain the concept and then quiz them on it through the rest of the book. Very fun!
In the spirit of exploring the "Opposites" concept of "In" and "Out", we used Eddie. Since our story time theme was IN like a LION and OUT like a LAMB, we used a little plush lion which was the same size as Eddie. We called him Leo and held him next to Eddie in all the "outside" photos.
This series explains basic concepts/opposites using vibrant photos and a cartoon elephant. Each concept is explained in the beginning and then the rest of the book challenges readers to put their knowledge to the test.
The layout is well done, as well as the colors/objects/landscapes. I could've done without the count down page in each book that appears after the lesson and before the practice pages.
A good enough concept book for inside or outside, but sometimes the kids found it unclear. It was a bit uninspiring for the ESL Kindergarten class I read it with.
