2.5, rounded up.

The third of Price's full length plays for me to read, and the one I like the least. Partially this is structural - there are 31 short scenes over a 90-minute playing time, so most scenes are cut short before they can make much impact. Worse, the cast of six all exchange roles, with each of them playing Manning at some point, and even reading it, I found it somewhat confusing. Still, only knowing a few rudimentary facts about the real Manning, this gave a bit of insight into what their story was all about.

PS: Although Manning's gayness is addressed in this, it was written and performed prior to them declaring themself as trans, hence the use of his masculine name and pronouns.

Reading this for A Level drama exam and WOW, there is so many things to be learnt throughout this play…
So many links to people like Julian Assange and (of course!) Chelsea Manning, and her experience within the US Military, a Welsh School, and many other life events - inevitably shaping her to be such a strong willed character. Great!
