The Collapsing Bubble: Growth And Fossil Energy

Rate this book
A courageous look at the world’s dwindling energy resources. Contending that the energy debate has been cast in the wrong terms, the author suggests that the problem would not be solved by "What energy sources will be available to replace fossil fuels?’ but by "What populations can be supported at a decent standard by the energy sources that will be available after the transition from fossil fuels?’ Taking a brave stand, Grant suggests that with a bit of luck—we may be able to create a more harmonious balance with the rest of the biosphere, but at much lower population levels and less consumptive habits.

This is a quick little read that provides an easy-to-digest overview of peak oil, the alternatives, and why most of the alternatives won't work unless our population falls to 1900 or 1950's levels. Depressing, maybe - but the best way to solve the problem is to arm people with the facts.
Ok wait, I take that last line back - according to Change or Die, arming people with the facts will not make them change. Forming a strong community WILL foster change, so every responsible community leader should read Plan C: Community Survival Strategies for Peak Oil and Climate Change.
