It was suppose to be a simple delivery job, but now something has gone terribly wrong. Bullets are flying, and Kenny Moon must make a run for his life.
When Thomas Blake spots the half-frozen figure collapsed in a blizzard, the old man knows he must help. When Tom doesn't know is that danger will certainly follow the unconscious stranger.
When young Kenny awakens, he learns that the storm is forcing him to spend the holidays with three strangers - Tom, Dr. Ryan Blake, and their mutual friends Dr. Jessie Winston. For Ryan, the appearance of Kenny complicates matters. Ryan was hoping the next few days would be a chance to grow closer with Jessie - for their conversations to become more than professional discussions. Both suspect that their broken hearts can be healed through one another's love. But the threat that Kenny brings with him could pull the pair apart - or unite them forever.
C. K. Baily, author of Whisperings, delivers a gripping story where the path to forgiveness and healing takes an unexpected tun.

This book was given to me for free and I must admit it's the best free book (not including Library books) that I've ever read. The main character doesn't really like the family he belongs to, and events from years before still haunt him and bother him, trying to make him live up to his parents expectations of now being their only son. He gets into things he's not supposed to, but eventually learns what he should have learned all along and comes to terms with the parents he thought always wanted him to be something else. It also dicusses Jessie, a therapist that has some problems of her own and has a hard time admitting her love for Ryan, the man that has stood by her through her hard past and has a past of his own also, although for his own mistakes rather than his family's.

This author was my nephew and niece's day care provider. Good book with lots of lessons learned by the characters.

Update: I will rewrite this review after I read the prequel, Whisperings.

I rarely leave reviews, but I really wanted to like this book...and ended up disappointed.
The storyline started off good, but after a few chapters, I started to notice how much it really lacked.
First: Am I missing a prequel to this story? There was a lot going on with Jessie and her past and it felt like there should’ve been a backstory. We were missing quite a lot of information.
Second: there was too much psychology talk. While I realized they are both practicing doctors, it seemed to drag on in parts. Yes, part of it was necessary to bring together Jessie and Ryan, but it was too much.
Third: There is a murderer and drug dealer after Ken. Building on this would’ve brought this book up a few notches..

A sweet little book about struggling through life’s difficulties helps us grow stronger if we allow ourselves to learn the lessons we need to learn and move forward. Sometimes we need help learning those lessons and moving on. Great read.

Good story about what I imagine are real life situations. There was a little too much moralizing and the characters were a little too stereotypical. The author kind of used Louisa May Alcott’s style of moralizing but wasn’t as skilled at it.

I enjoyed this book but felt like I entered the middle of a story. I would have appreciated it to be marked a sequel to the author's previous book.

another great book. Read whisperings first if can. This is a continuation of the growing relationship between two pysiotrist that are both working through losses and guilt in their lives and have found that each serves a purpose in the others healing process. A Christmas time, an boy of fifteen becomes their unexpected visiter up at the cabin. He is running from something and they have to discover what before he tries to run again when the weather clears up. ken, has had issues lately with dealing with his big brothers suicide, his fathers leaving their family, and his guilt in the part he thinks he had in his brothers action. He has tried to fill his brother's "perfect" shoes, but can't handle it any more. He starts hanging out with the wrong crowd and finds himself in big trouble. Can two therapist help him out before the real bad guys find him?

The Good:
This story deals with "damaged lives" and ultimately how they can become whole... Not perfect...but whole through the good news of God's love. It doesn't do this in an overly preachy way, and it doesn't overly simplify the problems either. (Which was refeshing!) It also doesn't try to minimize the loss or grief the characters are going through.

The story was well thought out. The author would sometimes reveal a certian aspect of the conflict in the middle of the story and I found myself saying "Oh, that makes perfect sense!"

The less good: The banter between Jessie and Ryan was very, very annoying. There were also a few exponential conversations that my eyes just glazed over.

All in all 3/5. I would love to listen to this one on a road trip. It would probably like Ryan better.

I didn't like it as well as the first one. It left way too many loose ends, IMO. Very little character growth. The side story was interesting, but I would have preferred more time spent with letting the main characters learn and grow more -- and tying up some of those loose ends.

Interesting plot for a sequel, but once again it was too preachy. I had to skip those parts, because they were starting to irritate me.

Excellent wrap up t Whisperings. The two books together tells of an abuse survivor's journey to healing, how she finds the Gospel and love on that journey.

I listened to this book on CD. It was OK, just not as riveting as I was expecting. I give it 3 1/2 stars.

Painful. It's sad when the characters of a book are so poorly written that they actually annoy the reader. Sorry, but I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone.
