I loved the first book in the Sandy Cove series, but I just couldn't seem to get into this one. The main reason was Michelle. She was very selfish and annoying and I couldn't feel any sympathy for her at all. Every time her husband would disagree with her she would start to cry or become defensive, not caring about any one else's thoughts, views, or concerns. I really tried to understand from her point of view but every time I would start to, she would do or say something else that just made her out to be self-centered. Her obsession with having a baby right away was a bit too much. Every time you turn around she is telling someone she's "trying" to be patient, but she wants a baby now.
Again, I loved the first book, but I won't be recommending this book to anyone. Unfortunately, despite the first book being great, I don't think I'll be finishing this series.

Trials and tribulations is a part of life but faith in God will keep you steadfast and on track to his will and desires for your life.

In this second book of her "Sandy Cove" series, Rosemary Hines takes her readers back to her characters from "Out of a Dream." Michelle has multiple situations going on in her life. How she handles them and their resolution will be determined by her relationship with God.
Her father has tried to kill himself to escape the pain of the horrible accusations against him. Michelle and her family work tirelessly to help him see that he is loved and would be missed, as well as to prove his innocence. There are many pitfalls along the way that have to be overcome, but they are willing to fight. Will they be able to convince him to stay alive? How will the accusations be resolved? There is also a big part of Michelle that longs to be a mother, something she hasn't accomplished yet. She loves her husband and family, but her longing for a child of her own only gets stronger every time she sees a newborn. Her struggle with options, trials, and disappointments would be enough to knock anyone down. Will she keep her faith and trust in God's divine will, or will the devil creep in with disappointment and discouragement?
I haven't read "Out of a Dream" yet, but have that on my TBR list now. Rosemary Hines creates characters and scenarios that are realistic and draw in her readers. While I haven't experienced the heartache of infertility, I have friends who have and this book really brings the emotion to light. Thank you, Ms. Hines, for the opportunity to read the book!

The second book in Rosemary Hines’ Sandy Cove Series, Through the Tears, proves to be another must read. This book picks right up where Out of a Dream leaves off, answering some of those questions that lingered in your mind as you read that last paragraph.
Michelle finds herself looking at life differently following a suicide attempt by her father. She begins to take a deep look into relationships and spiritual matters to find the answers to her own questions. A treatment plan at an infertility clinic gives the book an unexpected turn of events that will keep you turning the pages for more. Although their decision was a difficult one to make, Steve and Michelle find themselves dealing with much more than they ever thought that decision would bring to their lives.
Infertility is very difficult and emotionally painful. The feelings and emotions surrounding that pain and turmoil are so real in this book. The characters have such depth that you feel their pain. I love the emotion that Rosemary’s writing brings to the story. Tears filled my eyes more than once as I turned the pages of not only the book but also the pages of their innermost being. I personally have experienced that pain and she mirrored it so well within these pages.
Biblical principles, as well as the working of the Holy Spirit within our lives, are openly shared.

Once again, Rosemary Hines has captured my attention from the first sentence!
From the moment I read Michelle was holding the envelope in her trembling hand, I couldn't put the book down! I wept, trembled, and rejoiced with Michelle as she pulled away from her New Age friends and began to lean more on God, her family and her Christian friends.
Rosemary Hines tackles difficult subjects - suicide, disabilities, infertility, abortion, new age beliefs, and the fear of kidnapping - all in one novel. Through the Tears will bless you again and again. I can't wait to read the third book in this series!

The second book of The Sandy Cove series picks up right where the first book ends. Steve and Michelle don't realize that Michelle's father's "accident" isn't their only worry. I have to say this book surprised me. At some point I was mad at Michelle and wanted her to be more compassionate toward her husband, but the second half of the book flipped my position. I felt for Michelle and wanted to lecture Steve. I also loved reading about Kelly and Ben's progress with the church plant.
Trevor is also in this book and does something to try to destroy Steve and Michelle's marriage that had me fuming!
You won't be able to put it down. Happy reading!

Another great story from Rosemary Hines
Again I find myself engrossed by Rosemary Hines and her excellent writing. From the moment I started reading I couldn't stop turning the pages. I felt a need to see where this story was leading and to find out what the author had in store for us. The 2nd book in the series of 7.

I enjoy Rosemary Hines' books and the way she handles everyday challenges, the conflicts encountered and resolution through faith and self reflection. Through the Tears explores infertility and fidelity in our confusing world.

I have to admit, After reading, and enjoying, back to back series of similar story lines, completely different from the story lines of this series, I had a hard time adjusting, and getting acquainted with the new characters in the 1st book of this series. Sure! The 1st couple of chapters seemed interesting enough and I loved the relationship between the newly married couple, Steve and Michelle, as well as the realistic obstacles they encountered. As the story progressed, the young couple seemed to question their compatibility because of insecurities, such as loss of identity, self worth, and jealousy. Even more so, to keep my interest, was the unexpected tragedy involving Michelle's family, which soon snowballed out of control heading down a slippery slope. Yet, as captivated as I had become, because of my busy workload, I was unable to read more than a chapter or two at night. Sometimes from exhaustion, I would forget what I read and have to reread pages the following night. Having been tested positive for covid, recently, I was happy to finally have the time to finish reading this book and all I can say is...Wow!! Lots of unexpected twists closer to the end, leaving me curiously anticipating the next Book of the series. Steve and Michelle may not always have luck on their side but they've certainly had God!
While this may not have been an actual religious book, it certainly gives insight to Christianity, and allows you to form your own
perspectives and beliefs on the issues at hand. For these reasons alone, I rate this book with 5 stars and consider it to be the best book yet in my reading challenge. I look forward to reading the remaining 7 books of this series, starting now!

The story was interesting and touched on a number of social issues and marital situations. At places it felt a bit preachy, though nothing I'd disagree with.
As other reviewers have said, Michelle was rather immature and definitely into her own feelings; Steve's feelings didn't penetrate much past her fixation with having a baby. Her idea of being a mom seemed to be all about holding cute little bundle. Especially when she intends to pursue schooling and a career, likely leaving her child at day care.
I think Steve had a better long-term view. He was a jewel to go along with that Russian-roulette kind of fatherhood. I think a lot of men would have said "No way!"
I'd like to have seen Michelle face the underlying cause of her need to have a baby at all costs. It seems there was a deeper issue going on there. Also, I wish Trevor's revelation of "confidential info" could have been exposed for the ploy it was. Not sure Michelle comprehended the bigger picture there, either. I was glad the writer gave them a happy ending, and again Steve came through as a jewel. In real life this could have led to a lifetime irritation.

Tough to read
This was tough to read for a couple of reasons. The opening scene indicates a problem that seemed to have come about in the usual wrong way, so I was on edge waiting for that to happen. It turns out I was wrong about my predictions and it happened a different way, but still, it was a story filled with watching an immature young woman making decisions outside of her husband and experiencing the conflict that followed. Not fun. It seemed she just barely just made it to the end intact. She kept making bad decisions about who she associated with and it was frustrating to see the lack of discernment on her part. The story was long and wordy to me. There was so much detail that I started skipping over sections to get to the heart of the story. I did appreciate having my eyes opened to what New Agers might be able to accomplish through their own form of prayers. Wow. I never though of those possibilities. There is some educational value here, both for that and the great Christian concepts expressed that will benefit the reader.

I appreciate the realness of this story and the struggle within it. I only give 5 stars to books I would read over and over again. I gave this 4, not because it isn't a great story, but because it is simply too heavy a subject matter for me to read over and over again. I think it is powerful and has the potential to be very powerful in the lives of many, not just women who face fertility issues and longing for motherhood, but it also gives a voice to the male who struggles with it as well (which is not often done with a female writer). Personally, it has touched many of my own hidden struggles and heartaches. Professionally, this series has inspired my own writing as it perfectly melds what I desire; to write with a message to inspire, encourage, and address real people with real issues. It's not fluff. It cuts to the heart as I know many people, myself included, can relate to. I'm taking a break in-between books, but look forward to reading the rest of the story and seeing how the author continues to fuse real-life issues with faith.

I wasted a day reading this book. The author spent more time on trite character discussion than in developing a plot that causes the reader to even think about where this story is going. Yawn. If it wasn’t for this book being one from my discussion group, I would have quit after a few chapters. Certainly won’t buy any others in this series. There were so many grammatical errors, it caused much distraction to the story and I had to guess how the sentences should have been written and what the author really meant.

Grandmother
Once I picked up the story I could not put it down til I finished it with tears. It hit close to home as my sister wanted children, but she didn't get the chance before she went home to be with God. My heart breaks as some people want children of their own, but cannot for some reason have them. This book is an inspiration to all in the same circumstances.

Book2 in the Sandy Cove series was a tear jerker. Steve & Michelle want to have a baby but there are struggles along the way. Trevor, from book1, won't go away & continues to cause problems.

I enjoyed this book. It's non stop, there are things going on everywhere but the author makes it easy to follow and to meet the characters and feel along with them as the story progresses. I accidentally read this book first so I am going back to read book one now....

Wow - I am continuously blessed in this! God always shows up and the resolve IS peace. He faithfully guided them through the tears to cleanse the situation and them and make each obstacle a blessing in it's own. Peace of the Lord conquers *remarkable* things in one's life; and there is only way to get this peace.
No matter how bleak each situation looked, that would appear to end in the worst of the worldly ways and of darkness; God is and was still in control. He was able to turn around each appearing-hopeless obstacle; bringing blessings abound where they are LEAST expected!
Trevor and his evil entourage in their "new age beliefs" in how they tried to trick Michelle and Steve, which turned out to be a glorious AMEN to God! The devil plays many tricks - but PRAYER wins! God wins! Trevor and his new age followers, even tried to incorporate "Jesus" in their evil devised scheme. They were really playing with fire (pun intended)
The scenario when the hospital staff greedily offered and tried to rush the decision the family to let John be a "no code", then he would not suffer and could be a organ donor to many. BUT grandfather, Phil takes hold of this difficulty - that is NOT of God. He prayed if God is not finished with John, that he would remain with the family. Phil put all of his trust and prayers in his relationship with God. And knew whatever the outcome would be, it is because God had a plan. You can't be comfortable with anything in life unless you pray about it first (which I have learned) and then you can have peace with the outcome, as far as it depends on you. I was so blessed on his character and his loyalty and trust in God and then his family. And his wife followed the same footsteps.
It was sweet to listen to Michelle reminiscence about her grandfather, Phil (the family rock) and he read her those bible stories when she was a little girl. Brought me back to "Train a child in the way they should go; and when they are old, he will not depart from it." (Proverbs 22:6) Those stories brought her back to her roots and foundation of knowing Jesus is the only way and "the truth". (John 14:6) Which saved her life and her marriage.
This series is a must read for someone stuck and need to focus on God and His work; and change their way of thinking to Godly ways and prayerful days; and not on the world ways. Putting your faith and trust in the Lord and daily PRAYER works!

I couldn't wait to read Through The Tears to follow Michelle and Steve. I wanted to read the rest of the story started in Out of a Dream. Her father is slowly recovering after trying to commit suicide. While spending so much time at the hospital with him she has also been spending time looking at the newborn babies in the nursery. She has decided it is time to start a family. But it doesn't happen right away so she and Steve begin looking at other options. What a wonderful way this story is told. Michelle is beginning to listen for God's guidance as she reads his word. The story follows her mom and dad as he goes through therapy and she deals with all the problems they face. Her grandparents as they faithfully pray for their family.and how they are able to impart their wisdom and insight. And, what is Trevor up to?
Once I started reading I couldn't find a good stopping place. I wanted to read one more chapter and then another, and another. This book stays interesting from start to finish. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

This book was very quick to get into because it picks up right where book 1 ended. I honestly felt like I was just flipping to a new a chapter, instead of starting a new book.
In book 2 we see Michelle as she worries about her future and it continues to follow her father who is still recovering from the incident in Book 1. Her spiritual path is still one that she struggles with on a daily basis. As she is struggling with her family and her faith she begins trying to have a baby with her husband and infertility issues arise. She feels like all hope is lost. But soon together her and her husband come to an agreement about their future.
This book really has a touching story. The infertility issues in this book are some that hit close to home for many women and I think this book would be a great read for someone who may be losing faith.
Great series so far. I can't put them down. I cant wait to read book 3...Stormi

In book 2 we see Michelle as she worries about her future and it continues to follow her father who is still recovering from the incident in Book 1. Her spiritual path is still one that she struggles with on a daily basis. As she is struggling with her family and her faith she begins trying to have a baby with her husband and infertility issues arise. She feels like all hope is lost. But soon together her and her husband come to an agreement about their future.
This book really has a touching story. The infertility issues in this book are some that hit close to home for many women and I think this book would be a great read for someone who may be losing faith.
Great series so far. I can't put them down. I cant wait to read book 3...Stormi

I had read four other books in the Sandy Cove series but had missed this one. I was glad to fill in the story, even though missing this one had not reduced my pleasure in reading the others.
I like that the author tackles tough subjects like suicide and infertility and that she writes from a Christian worldview.
The only reason I didn't give the book 5 stars is that I thought both Michelle and Steve were overly dramatic and self-centered his infertility and their artificial insemination. I understand the pain of infertility--my husband had the very same issue as Steve. Our only child was adopted at age 11 because 50 years ago, we didn't have many options. We had both hoped to have a baby (naturally or through adoption) and we were saddened when that didn't happen. But we didn't react the way Steve and Michelle did in their situation.

Through the Tears deals with suicide, infertility, adoption, and abortion as well as infidelity and then there is forgiveness and hope. Rosemary Hines truly gripped at my heart as I was cheering Michelle on. Of course, there is a "bad guy" in every story and Trevor fits the bill for that title. Michelle also finds herself having to defend her newfound faith in the aftermath of her experimentation with the New Age spirituality practices. My heart broke for Michelle as they experienced infertility and the pain associated with it. I was constantly finding myself waiting with bated breath as I read. I loved this book and am eager to read the third book in the Sandy Cove series.
