I had high hopes for this book, the 14th in the superb Ghostwalker series.. Oftentimes with romance, I end up detesting the heroine who is either a doormat or one who fights the hero every step of the way. I love reading about women who are cerebral and strong without being annoying. I love a good, kind, sweet and likable heroine who is strong but doesn't fight against everything. Zara Hightower met all my expectations. Zara is a friend of Bellisia, the heroine of the previous book and as children they grew up as Peter Whitney’s experiments. Zara has grown into a sophisticated young woman who can store computer information in a storage unit in her brain and she can call up venom under her nails as her defense weapon.
The hero, Gino Mazzo, has a tragic back story. When his parents and both sets of grandparents were slaughtered, standing in front of gunfire to shield a ten year old Gino, he went to live with family friend, Joe Spagnola, and followed his friend into the military and the Ghostwalker program. Gino has a deadly edge to him that keeps him apart from everyone. Joe is in the swamps recovering from a brutal attack from Violet. The team gets a call from their commanding general that a Ghostawalker female is being held prisoner in enemy territory in China and needs extraction. Despite not knowing anything about this woman or that Whitney maybe leading them into a trap, Team Four make the decision to risk their lives to save a fellow Ghostwalker in danger. Gino takes the lead to grab Zara from her tormentor and get her out.
Gino is my favorite type of hero, possessive, dangerous, and domineering, but also gentle and supportive with the woman he adores. Zara is recuperating form a brutal beating by the villain and her friend, Bellisia, was understandably is concerned that kind, sweet, compassionate Zara was being coerced into a sense of safety with the very dominant Gino. But all along Gino gave Zara a choice to be with him, to choose him, “No one is going to stop me but Zara. She has only to say she would prefer someone else and I’m gone.” This is a relationship that is built on choice, trust, and emotional depth.
The sex scenes were perfectly written and well-time. Gino and Zara took time to know each other before sex, the first sex scene didn’t happen until page 240 which was just fine by me because I was so engrossed in the action, the family, dynamics of another Ghostwalker female being welcome onto team four folds, and the exhilarating action. This is the type of action/fantasy/romance that I love, where the reader gets to know more about the characters as individuals and watch as their embers ignite slowly between the hero and heroine into a believable relationship that will last.
The villain in the story, Bolan Zhu, was a vile, evil sociopath. Bolan had absolutely no redeeming qualities, he reveled in exacting pain and torture on others. Too often the evil villain is just a prop to drive conflict. I want the villain/bad guys to suffer, no getting off the hook. Gino is the man who villains don’t mess with.
The strength of this story arc is how Wyatt’s grandmere, Nonny, has become the center that welcomed a rudderless team of Ghostwalkers and now they are building a fortress in the swamps, a refuge for women and children slated for extermination because they dare defy Peter Whitney, and in Zara’s case, a monster set out to possess her. I love how Nonny has taken these motherless young women, who were treated as chattel as children under Whitney, and provides motherly affection and guidance Zara, Pepper, Cayenne, and Bellisia never had growing up. Nonny give Zara some profound advice about relationships, “It’s the little things that make or break a relationship, don’t think he’s going tot know or anticipate what you need…communicate it to him.” I hope that Nonny will be around for several more books. The story arc would be bereft without her presence.
Covert Game was wonderful escapist fantasy, I loved every moment spent with Team Four, the badass Cayenne and Bellisia, deadly but sweet Pepper, our beloved Nonny, and the three “viper chicklits.” I feel at home with team four and Zara’s addition makes the team much stronger.

Just Another Book Bitch's ALWAYS SPOILER FREE REVIEW
Covert Game is the 14th GhostWalkers' novel, and the 589632 book Christine Feehan has written... Okay, she hasn't written that may books. This is actually her 75th book!! YOU GUYS!! How does she do it? How can she write so many novels so many series and wonderful characters and keep them all straight?? As many of you know, I'm still new to Feehan (hangs head in shame) But I climbed out from under my rock and I am addicted! I requested this book knowing I hadn't read the previous novels... Why you ask... I wanted to see just how standalone these novels are. I have shared a couple of her books on the blog that were on sale that wasn't necessarily the first in the series but ones that looked really good. I figured if I was clicking I'd share with you guys. So I wanted to jump in, in the "middle" of a series to see. Could I really enjoy it without reading the previous novels? I hate spoilers so, would it ruin the previous novels so that going back would be a waste of time?
Covert Game shines a light on the Ghostwalker Gino. With a traumatic past, that sculpted him to be a killer. Paired with the Ghostwalker program and you have one very dangerous and lethal man. Our male protagonist Gino *queue the wolf whistle* is an old school alpha. Bossy, demanding and at times way too overbearing. But hey, some girls like that in a man. I mean Zara sure does! He may not be my favorite pick from all the Ghostwalkers but Gino and Zara are perfect for each other.
If you're familiar with the series you know that Whitney isn't going to let the Ghostwalkers just keep Zara. If you're new to the series, Whitney is a bit of a mad scientist and creator for the Ghostwalker program. He prides himself in his "patriotic" work. He's especially proud of what he's created Zara for. Without giving too much detail I will say that Zara is very special and contains something so important, that Whitney will stop at nothing, until he get's what he wants.
The novel actually begins like a movie would... a gorgeous woman, dressed to the nines... on her way to some unknown destination. Where we are thrust into a dangerous game of cat and mouse. From the very beginning, we get an instant sense of foreboding... the dangers alone would have anyone on the edge of their set. But once we meet Bolan Zhu we know we are in for one very long dark and captivating ride...
I found I really enjoyed my first Ghostwalkers' novel. Feehan creates an epic journey. The action is choreographed so precisely that I found myself caught up in the moment and holding my breath. My only complaint would have to be that I found it a bit repetitive at times and I found that it did stall out for while in the middle where I just wanted something to happen. Though is that just me being addicted to action and suspense? Maybe it's my "anti angst" mood I've been in...
Anyhow... to answer my questions
"Could we really enjoy it without reading the previous novels?"
"would it ruin the previous books so much that going back would be a waste of time?"
Even without reading the previous stories you get a feel for each character, their love and loyalty for one another and yet. I don’t feel like their books will be spoiled when I go back to read them. Which I totally will! If anything just the bits and pieces I was given only intrigued me more. Yes, I know who ends up with who so far and I know what some of their "abilities" are. But don't we always know who will end up with who? It's definitely about the journey with these characters and I can't wait to dive into more or the Ghostwalkers.

Fab series to go to when others weren’t working!
Yes, it’s very formulaic but each individual story was good.
The hero is part of a super soldiers who created by a mad scientist, of course they didn’t know he was mad before.
He did his experiments by using poor orphan females and abused them for years and used them as his lab rats. Many got killed in the process, the ones who survives are lethal and tried to run away from that mad man.
Our heroine is one of those poor girls, physically she was weak than other girls but she was a child prodigy. That’s why he didn’t terminate her and now she wanted to be free too.
The hero and other super soldiers tried to save those women as many as possible.
Love this series:)

Feehan is highly talented in creating worlds with words. I'm a big Feehan fan . I've read all her works, and we all know that is a lot of books. She once again wrote a riveting, suspense filled, romance that kept the reader white knuckle reading.
Recently, I was given the opportunity to read the first book in her new series,.Judgment Road. I really love her story telling just like I really loved the base of the story in Covert Games...but I'm a bit concerned with the descriptively described sadistic actions perpetrated on men, women and children. We knew there where actions taken in previous books but they seem to be escalating and I have to admit, I wish some of it was a little less described and more implied.

Covert Game by Christine Feehan is the 14th book in the Ghostwalker series. The story is set in Shanghai at the beginning and near the end and in Louisiana for the rest of the story.
Zara Hightower is an industrial spy working to recover information on the Ghostwalkers that was given by a senator to a crime lord. One of the Ghostwalker teams is assigned to rescue her when she is held prisoner. I won't say much else about the story line because of spoilers.
This novel is well-written and has memorable characters. However, bear in mind that this one is extremely violent. There is torture, violence and blood as well as many deaths. Some of the characters are very twisted and perverted. There is lots of action and some heart-pounding moments. There is also romance, tender moments and several very steamy scenes. There are also plenty of alpha males wanting to protect the women and children, even when some of the women are as dangerous as the males.
This book was hard to read at times due to the violence and torture. It was also sometimes annoying with the alpha males. Despite this, there is a good story underneath it. Due to the torture scenes and extreme violence, I rated this one 3.5 stars.

Covert Game is the most recent installment in the Ghostwalker's series and what a stunning book this turned out to be. I won't say that I have loved every single book in this series however I did enjoy this one more than I have the others for the most part with exception to the first 6 books of the series.
Our heroine, Zara Hightower, is one of the girls that has been kept a virtual prisoner to be experimented on. Zara, has incredible talents with computers and is a computer on her own. She is sent on a mission to steal secrets away from a Chinese Crime Lord, but while on the mission she is caught, interrogated and tortured with no hope of ever being rescued.
Gino is a Ghostwalker, capable and cold when he needs to be. When their team receives a request to rescue her and Gino will have two choices to make, if the woman proves to be innocent, he plans on protecting her and bringing her to their home in the bayou but if she proves to be an enemy....she will have to be killed. But Gino may be a hardened killer and a trained soldier, but he envies the love his brothers have for their women and craves that for himself.
So Gino and the rest of their team goes into the fortress to rescue one of their own, and the moment Gino sees her he knows she is his and he will do anything to protect her. As the healer of the team, he sees to her injuries and brings her back to the Bayou where she can be surrounded by women who are just like her including one of her closest friends ...Bellisia. But there are two groups of men that are hunting her, Will Gino and Zeke and the rest of the team be able to protect her...
What a joy this book was and I had such a blast. I loved the relationship between Gino and Zara and it felt more like one of the earlier books too which I found very refreshing. Our heroine isn't tough and ready to kill like her two other friends. She is more gentle and more focused on matters of the mind and could never do what she was ordered to do by Whitney. She knows that she should be scared of Gino, but all she feels is safety and peace when she is with him. I really found their dynamics so endearing. Its been a while since we had a heroine that had a more gentler side. I liked how spirited she could be when she believed in something strong enough, but I also loved how Gino never pushed her. He pretty much let her control things in the relationship. He is so gentle and kind and very patient. I found their romance to be so sweet yet HOT too which is the perfect mix and Feehan does this blend so well. I fell so hard for Gino and Zara. They truly were just perfect for each other.
The plot line of the Chinese crime lord was a intense twist and there are some dark elements in this book that won't be for everyone because this villain is truly evil and cruel and we see what he is capable of. So its not easy to read this at times. So fair warning that elements of rape, whippings and caning violently are involved in the story.
However I loved the way that this team of Ghostwalkers just come together and fight and protect each other and their families. I was impressed with how well Feehan handled all the various elements to deliver a well written kick ass romance that was full of life and suspense and keeps you on the edge of your seat!! RIVETING FROM BEGINNING TO END!

You be the calm in the eye of that storm for me. I could use that. When I lose my mind, and I will, you can center me.
The plot line of the Chinese crime lord was a intense twist and there are some dark elements in this book that won't be for everyone because this villain is truly evil and cruel and we see what he is capable of. So its not easy to read this at times. So fair warning that elements of rape, whippings and caning violently are involved in the story.
However I loved the way that this team of Ghostwalkers just come together and fight and protect each other and their families. I was impressed with how well Feehan handled all the various elements to deliver a well written kick ass romance that was full of life and suspense and keeps you on the edge of your seat!! RIVETING FROM BEGINNING TO END!

I liked this one better than the last few in this series. This one is dark. Surprisingly dark from Christine Feehan.
I loved the bassadery of the Ghost Walkers. Gino, in particular, was a revelation. The heroine strayed from the usual as well, so it all felt fresh and new. I loved the focus on the previous heroines that is usually lacking.

I really enjoy this series but why is their such sexism in this series.
Honestly, I don't know how I feel about females trained in combat always having to play submissive to Alpha Ghostwalker soldiers. I think I would have bought this one if I hadn't experienced one too many times already because Zara is actually a submissive.
I also found the torture of Zara by chinese operative Bolan Zhu to be excessive and so listen to. I did manage to enjoy my favorite grandma Nonnie Fontenot. She is a strong backbone for these band of misfits. I was expecting more from insane mastermind Peter Whitney but I know he has something in the works.

I would also like to point out the author continues to justify Trap’s abusive behaviour in Spider Game (GhostWalker #12) as a by-product of Asperger’s Syndrome –a plot point that was never mentioned in Trap’s story line- Spider Game- but has been addressed in the last two instalments in an effort, I believe, to appease the many negative comments and reviews about Trap’s abusive and controlling behaviour. In this, there is also much talk between the heroines, throughout Covert Game, rationalizing and accepting their mates’ controlling behaviour-something I see as the author, once again, as trying to defend her male characters’ less than favourable characteristics. I do not have a problem with alpha males in my ‘fictional’ story lines but the increase in controlling and somewhat abusive behaviour is something the author is most likely trying to address and explain via her female leads.
COVERT GAME is a suspenseful and action packed story line. Gino will seek retribution for the woman he loves, retribution that is equal to the torture inflicted upon our story line heroine. The premise is startling, dramatic and intense; the characters are intelligent, complex and charismatic; the romance is intimate and emotional. COVERT GAME is an intriguing and fascinating look at the paranormal.

The heroine has found herself in a dangerous situation being held by a ruthless man. She is one of Dr. Whitney's GhostWalkers and still works for him. She is highly intelligent, educated, an expert in the field of artificial intelligence and machines, and a corporate spy. She has some enhanced skills as well, but also some inherent weaknesses. And she has been conditioned to feel unworthy. She is in trouble and the team just cannot leave a GhostWalker in peril no matter what the circumstances.
The "hero" or perhaps her "Guardian Devil" has been trained all his life to be deadly. He has a coldness about him that he is not sure can be eradicated. He has more money that he knows what to do with, but despises what money does to people. He tends to fade into the background especially darkness and nature, and not draw attention.
He knows that if he ever finds a woman, he could not handle her being one like the other GhostWalker women that will fight beside the men. He needs something different...someone calming in order to soothe his demons and someone for him to be able to protect, take care of, and give her everything. She needs someone to make her feel worthy and needed...and someone she can trust to make her feel safe. On the surface they seem to be opposites, but they actually fit together quite well despite the fact that not everyone is happy about the idea of them being being together.
This mission will involve most of the team while taking on old and new enemies and trying to keep her, their group, and some important information safe. They are surrounded by multiple threats, danger, and several antagonists so there is plenty of action and violence. One of the villains literally made my skin crawl, and definitely earned enemies with his actions.
This brings back all of the new team, their significant others, and Nonny from their swamp fortress. It is easy for me to get caught back up in this GhostWalker world and exploring all of their special abilities. I am getting more and more attached to this newer group. My only complaint is that these books sometimes seem a bit long and repetitious at times, but I am still so attached to the characters and the stories that I cannot stop reading them. I am still interested in more with Joe, Malichi, Mordichai, and Draden especially. And I hope that we see one the Whitney's other "flowers", Shylah, make an appearance in a future story.

Paranormal meets romance and it is sexy and edgy…
I know, I know. It’s another story by one of my favourite authors and you probably think the fangirling is going to get mushy. I suspect you are right as this was another great read in this paranormal, action-packed series!
Zara is an expert in the field of artificial intelligence and loves nothing better than sharing her knowledge with the world. If she throws in a bit of corporate espionage that will better that world, then more is the better. When she finds herself in dangerous, no escape situation, she is grateful to her rescuers, especially Gino. Gratitude changes to more as Gino proves himself to be her everything…
“I’m not just a brain to you. I’m a person.”
If I make it sound like insta-love then I’m definitely giving the wrong impression. The build up of the story is slow and meticulous with stomach-churning tension guaranteed as enemies unleash their brutality. It is gritty and unrelenting, as the forces of good and evil never meet for a garden tea party. Gino and Zara bond during life-threatening situations and their aftermath, allowing time for each to uncover hidden depths and surprises along the way….
“He needed someone who would soothe him, quiet the dark demon when it began to emerge.”
“She wanted him to be real, a terrible demon, and she didn’t care if he was sent from heaven or hell.”
Zara is a strong heroine but Gino taps into wants and desires she never shows to anyone, hardly admitting them to herself… He makes Zara even prouder of her abilities, making her feel safer as she learns how trustworthy and capable he is…
“You going to give me everything like that, baby? Whenever I ask? Whatever I ask for?”
“Trust is a gift, Zara, and I won’t forget that you give it to me every day we’re together.”

Hard one to rate b/c I loved the H/h, their interactions and connection but I didn’t love the story There was way too much unnecessary torture scenes. The action scenes were written well as always.
Gino is one of my favorite Ghostwalker's. He is protective & possessive of Zara, she is his world. He is loving not an abusive ass towardst the h but he also has controlling edge which is sexy.
Zara is sweet and as most of Feehan's is a pkeaser. It's written well into this story because Gino is not an ass towards her (see Wyatt & Pepper from Viper Game). Zara complements Gino well. I liked her.

In Covert Game we are introduced to Zara Hightower another of Dr. Whitney’s “girls”. Her psychic gift enhanced by Dr. Whitney made it possible for her to serve as a wireless conduit. She did not need to hack in any computer of figure out passwords. The only thing she needed was a wireless environment. She had an incredible mind and ability on solving number problems. She wanted to believe that the mission Whitney sent her on was too important and he would not allow her to die. Or would he?
Geno Mazza grew up in an extremely wealthy family; however that money did not save his family, both his parents and grandparents died to protect him. He learned to be strong and feared. He cultivated the stillness and the coldness he was born with in order to survive. He was an officer, doctor, and surgeon. He was the “Phantom Wind” when he moved through the darkness no one could hear him or see him, just the wind.
Gino and Joe Spagnola are best friends; they went to the best schools, and later Gino followed Joe into the Air Force, paraprescue training, and into the Ghost Walker program. Joe Spagnola was not only Geno’s best friend, he was he was also now his team leader.
There is no love lost between Whitney and the Ghost Walker’s. However when the Ghost Walker’s find out that one of their own is a prisoner in enemy territory and that she is in danger Joe and Gino form a rescue mission to save her.
Christine Feehan brings us another action packed Ghost Walker novel; it has it all, action, mystery and suspense, international espionage, and then some. I have to admit that some parts were difficult for me to read, especially about torture. It took our hero Gino all his skills as a doctor and a surgeon to help Zara recover. As always Christine Feehan storyline amid all the action still focuses on family, love and relationships. As wounded as they are Zara and Gino never thought they would have a chance at love. Will their past prevent them from having a future together?

The Ghostwalker series is my absolute favorite of Christine Feehan's novels. I really like the over-arching concept of a megalomanical, uber-rich guy that is abusing his power to 'better the world.' It also combine this with the smart, scientist crazy theory of 'the end justifies the means' when it comes to going overboard in what should and shouldn't' be done in the scientific world. These two things in one crazy person who has an overblown ego and hates women, makes for a pretty awesome villain. Throw in patriotism and corporate spying to the mix and you get some crazy hops to jump.
Covert Game is the newest book in this series, and it was great to finally see a female character that has a history with a previous couple. Most of the time the new females introduced (the men we've met already), come from unique backgrounds or they end up with men from the different military units working so while they get to visit others they may know, they don't interact to this level. Zara is unique in that she grew up with Bella (from Power Game), but she is one of the first females that has almost no military expertise. She has been trained for it all, but has real problems following through. But since her smarts are Whitney-level smart or better and her natural talent is with computers, she's the perfect corporate spy for Whitney.
I loved the dynamic between Zara and Gino. It was very unique from the previous novels. Zara's learning about the world was also very different, because Whitney had sent her to school to become a world famous scientist. She had to learn more about family and relationships and had to deal with her jealousy of her relationship with Bella being different now. It was different from previous novels and really enjoyable. (I received this novel as an ARC from Netgalley)
Covert Game is the newest book in this series, and it was great to finally see a female character that has a history with a previous couple. Most of the time the new females introduced (the men we've met already), come from unique backgrounds or they end up with men from the different military units working so while they get to visit others they may know, they don't interact to this level. Zara is unique in that she grew up with Bella (from Power Game), but she is one of the first females that has almost no military expertise. She has been trained for it all, but has real problems following through. But since her smarts are Whitney-level smart or better and her natural talent is with computers, she's the perfect corporate spy for Whitney.
I loved the dynamic between Zara and Gino. It was very unique from the previous novels. Zara's learning about the world was also very different, because Whitney had sent her to school to become a world famous scientist. She had to learn more about family and relationships and had to deal with her jealousy of her relationship with Bella being different now. It was different from previous novels and really enjoyable. The GhostWalkers are back in another exhilarating book, one where I was completely thrilled to read. There was lots of action and adventure that got my blood pumping and intriguing suspense that had me biting my nails and the chemistry is off the charts electrifying.
Gino and Zara are strong, exciting characters that stir emotions and captivate readers with their story. The romance is sweet but oh so hot with Gino’s alpha protective personality and Zara’s tough but sweet vulnerable personality, so they are a bit opposite but it works fantastic for them as it sure generates some raging hot heat and keeps readers enthralled with the relationship as it grows.
Hair raising suspense builds from the very beginning as Zara finds herself in hot water and keeps right on building throughout the story which keeps readers on the edge with lots of thrills. Whitney is back of course with his usual tricks and total disregard for human life but the GhostWalkers have a new set of enemies that were introduced in Power Game and let me tell you I would to blow this bad guy to smithereens. There is lots of danger with explosive action throughout the book and also a disturbing torture scene involving Zara that adds to the emotional impact of this fast paced plot.

Covert Game is the story of industrial spy, Zara Hightower and Ghostwalker Gino Mazza. Gino doesn't believe he will ever find love until he rescues Zara from men in Shanghai who have tortured her for information about missing data on their company computers. Gino is appalled at the things that have been done to Zara and takes it upon himself to nurture her back to health. Both Zara and Gino know almost immediately that they are meant for each other, but it takes repeated kidnapping attempts from both Whitney and Bolan Zhu, her torturer, before Zara finally believes in their relationship.
Some of my favorite books ever are in the Ghostwalker series, but this book, just left me flat. There are very few scenes in the book that move the story forward. There is a lot of talking with Gino and his Ghostwalker friends trying to convince Zara that she is worthy of Gino. The only real conflict is between Zara and Bellisia, who had been in Whitney's compound together. As friends, they had shared everything, but now Zara must accept that Bellisia is married and has a life beyond what they shared as children. It seemed to me that Zara just needed to grow up a little. There is nothing wrong with being submissive, but when a protagonist repeatedly has to depend on others' perceptions of her to build up her self-esteem, I begin to dislike that character. Also, other books in the series have focused on the supernatural abilities of the female as well as the male characters. All of the things that make Zara unique are glossed over throughout the book, making her seem like a whiny, clingy female who has nothing to bring to the table. Overall, this was a descent story but doesn't come anywhere close to living up to the other books in this series. A disappointment.

I really found Gino an easy man to like, "he gave her another small, reassuring smile. “I’m hell on wheels as a surgeon, baby, and that’s me bragging, pounding my chest and acting like an egomaniac just to impress you.” Gino was so alpha, “I love the way you look laid out like this on my bed, sexy as eff, woman. I’m warning you right now, as of today, things are changing between us.” He smoothed his hand over her buttocks..." The man is just so bossy, “you’re my effing woman, Zara. What the heck do you think it means? And we’re getting married as soon as I can arrange it.” I liked this book, I fell in love with Gino.

Gino Mazza is a GhostWalker who is sent on a rescue mission with his team. The only problem, this could be a suicide mission or a trap. The GhostWalkers all have enhanced abilities. He and his team have been in some high stress situations before but this one is going to take just the right timing to pull off.
Zara Hightower is being held against her will after wiping computers of info the people should never have had in the first place. But she wasn't able to get away before they found out the computers were wiped and the hard drives were destroyed. The people in charge aren't sure if or how she did it but she's tortured anyway to try and get the information from her.
Unfortunately, the torture scenes are very graphic, so much so that it made me wince more than a few times. At one point I had to put the book down because it was just that bad. The men are sadists and don't hold back even though after he was done, he told her he had held back and hadn't given her the beating that his partner had wanted him to.
Gino and his team get called in to rescue Zara but she has no idea they're coming. She's given up all hope by the time they do get there. But she's rescued and it was close because the bad guys find out she's gone and try to get her back before the team can get back on U.S. soil. Not only are the GhostWalkers having to keep Zara safe from the men who were holding her and tortured her but the man who sent her on that mission wants her back because she has valuable information that he needs.
Zara gets to know Gino as she's healing and things start heating up right away between the two of them. I really liked them both and thought that they fit really well together. The sex scenes with these two are on fire! I like how gruff and intimidating he is with most people but how gentle and accommodating he is with Zara.
While this book was great and full of action, love, romance and fun. It's also not for the faint of heart because of the graphic torture scenes. The secondary characters are great, I like that we really get to know some of the other GhostWalkers and their wives and kids. This book kept me up past my bedtime because I had to see what was going to happen next. I highly recommend this book, especially if you're already a fan of the series. While this book can be read as a standalone, it would be better to start from the beginning to get a better idea where the GhostWalkers came from and how they came about in the first place.

Zara Hightower has be captured by Cheng and is horrifically tortured by his brother Bolan Zhu. Readers Beware the torture is descriptive and goes on way to long before Zara is Rescued by GhostWalker Team 4. It took me over a day just to get past the descriptions of the torture Zara was enduring. It was way to much for me and way to descriptive. But once I got past that part of the storyline the rest was a good mix of action and a growing love relationship between Zara and Gino. Gino Mazza is your typical Alpha Male. I loved the way he loved Zara and her acceptance of his dominate personality. Gino was dominate but not dominating. Of course they have a pretty hot sensual relationship. But surprisingly not as sensual as most of Christine Feehan's books. This was a bit toned down in my opinion. Zara has a unique GW ability she can communicate with computers and she store there information and files in her brain, just like she is computer herself. This was really interesting to read and I hope CF expands on AI intelligence in future GW stories.
The triplets Ginger, Cannalle and Thym are mentioned through out the story, but there is no real interaction of banter with them. I Loved there antics in the other GW stories. I love Nonny and those triplet babies. So I missed there presence in this story and hope they get there usual spot in the next GW book. Nonny of course was there to give her advice to her new girl Zara. There girls night out was a pleasant surprise to the story.

Covert Game is the latest installment in Christine Feehan’s Ghostwalker series. Zara doesn’t believe she is much of a ghostwalker but she will do whatever is necessary to protect them. Gino embraced the darkness and loved the enhancements. But is he too dark for a happily ever after? Gino finds himself longing for a partner and something about Zara calls to him but can she be trusted? I loved finding out. I also enjoyed seeing Gino and Zara find their way. Both Gino and Zara were a bit of a throwback, but their needs meshed perfectly. Having space and time to see how well would be their issue. I loved that Ms. Feehan allowed Gino to see Zara and her needs. They were different but fit what he wanted to have in a relationship. I loved that Ms. Feehan showed us Zara’s strength even as her needs dictated leaning on her man. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Zara come into her own as a woman as one half of a couple. I was somewhat disappointed with this book. First of all, it was repetitive. Both as compared to other books in the series, and in terms of repeating the same inner dialogues. Recent books by Ms. Feehan have a lot of things in common. You could replace one MC with another and most of the time dialogues and actions would still make sense. Mostly because, with several exceptions, the men and the women are very much alike and have the same major problems, insecurities and fears. Also towards the end of the book Gino really started to annoy me with all that 'I am dark and bad and yada yada'. I wanted to see more development in his thinking and view about himself. Secondly, I missed progress on the macro level. It felt as if the series did not move forward with this book.
What saved this book for me was the conflict between Zara, Gino and Bellisia. It was not major but it did add the additional theme of 'do what works for you, even if others do not understand'. If not for that, I would have rated it 2 stars, although the writing style is great, but charaters are no longer distinct and plot is somewhat blury.

I love this series, so good to be back among these characters, like old friends. It’s been great catching up with the couples and single guys, in this extended family. Love the joking and camaraderie between them. The head and mother to all, Wyatt’s grandmother Nonny is a wonderful women, always seems to have sound advice and eerily knows more than she lets on. I’m sure she knew Gino was going to find his women on this mission.
Another fabulous nail biting story, has you on the edge of your seat one moment, laughing out loud the next and just when you think all is calm all hell breaks loose. The Ghostwalkers are a force to be reckoned with.
I highly recommend this book, can be read as a stand alone I guess, however would suggest you read the series, not to be missed.

March 19, 2018DNF @ 53%. I've been trying to finish this book for about two weeks now, and have decided to throw in the towel. While I typically enjoy Christine Feehan's work, the instalove/instalust was a little too much for me. I did like the heroine, Zara, and her relationship with Bellisia, the heroine of the previous book. But that wasn't enough to help me power through to the end.
If you're a big fan of Christine Feehan, the usual tropes abound, so you'll probably enjoy this one.

This book was so great! I wouldn't want to have their relationship dynamics, but I'm not them, and different people need different things in their relationships, have different relationships, which is something this book goes over! Really enjoyed reading it, and I can't wait for more!

Thoughts: This is one of the most enjoyable books I’ve read from Feehan in a good long while. I love the Ghostwalker series and have since the very first book, Shadow Game. Of course, all readers have their favorites in each series, and I’ve loved some more than others….however, Covert Game seemed to have more of the old Christine Feehan magic to it that I have come to miss in some of her newer releases. Feehan is an amazing writer, and I am so excited that I am able to get back into her books again. As one of my favorite authors of paranormal romances, I am extremely happy to add her to my one-click buy list again!

While I miss the first Ghost Walker team, I do like this team as Nonnie is around them more. She seems to be the center to them all, showing most of them what a real home should be like. I love how she teaches the women cooking, how she counsels them all about love and romance. Nonnie really makes them all so much more human when Whitney made sure physically they aren’t that human any more.
We know Whitney is terrible, but what he put Zara through is horrible. I was glad when the guys rescued Zara and brought her home to Nonnie. Sure she had a hard road ahead of her, but if she could live through what she did, the rest is easy. I liked the relationship that Zara and Gino built, that Zara was able to stand up to her friend and fight for her relationship. Gino was a bit different, but I loved that he knew what he needed to do at the end to give Zara piece of mind. And quite frankly it needed to be done.
The girls night out was fun, loved seeing them in a relaxed setting! I do wish that there had been more with the little girls, they are always fun!
