James, Alice and their family fight against the encroaching darkness by making peace where they can and showing no quarter when none is offered as they do all they can - and more - to survive.
Tired of the usual post-apocalyptic tale? Welcome to your new addiction .
The #1 best-selling and most prolific post-apocalyptic author Mike Kraus brings a new gripping tale of destruction, survival and humanity like no one else can.
On a quiet evening like any other, virtually anything that uses fuel goes up in flames, killing billions in the first twenty-four hours alone. Remnants of governments reel as they try to deal with the destruction of their countries and decimation of their military infrastructure as their cities burn to the ground.
On a quiet beach in South Florida, Alice Burton and her two children have started the family vacation early - all that's left is for James to fly in from a conference in Colorado. When the small beach town they're staying in is consumed by fire, they're forced to seek help on foot - facing dangers both natural and manmade at every turn.
Meanwhile, at the Denver International Airport, James Burton hides beneath an overpass as cars and planes erupt in flame around him. His survival is not guaranteed, as a treacherous journey through the heart of Denver and beyond awaits him if he has any hope of reuniting with his family.
Back home, on their small farm outside East Lansing, Michigan, Alice's parents are house-sitting, and are about to experience the most intense test of their survival and homesteading skills that they could ever imagine.

Mike Kraus & Muonic Press are the #1 producing and selling indie press publishing post-apocalyptic tales, for good reason. Since capturing audience’s attention with Final Dawn in 2012, Kraus has captivated and delighted his readers, both with his solo projects like Surviving the Fall and No Sanctuary, and with his co-authored projects with authors like Justin Bell, JJ Pike, Tara Ellis, Kenny Soward and others on titles such as Epoch's End, Zero Hour, MELT, Flashpoint and Weathering the Storm.
The riveting, post-Apocalyptic epic of dystopian destruction and survival against the odds continues Mike Kraus' stunning saga of fossil-fuel dependency and corporate greed, The End Of All Things, in Book 4 -The Darkness.
In an Alabama forest injured Mom Alice, who's survived by a freak chance, struggles with her meagre salvaged supplies as she prepares to give everything to save her snatched kids across an unforgiving landscape. Far away, her husband James plays Good Samaritan to Officer Oswell and save her life, literally, after a gun battle. Will they make it back to base?

A continuation of this spectacular series. When everything that can explode, has done so, how will people escape the danger. People run everywhere to escape the inferno. Families are separated, and don’t know how to find each other. Characters that will take you on their dangerous journey with them. Can’t wait for more.
How can you like the fact that people can descend into beasts who will do anything to survive. The heroes of the story have to fight to survive the most atrocious act of cruelty and try to keep themselves from becoming monsters. The whole story is disturbing but once you start reading it you have to keep going.
James is struggling to get out of the Chicago area alive, even with some new allies. Jake and Sarah have been forced into slave labor at a meth lab and camp after Alice was shot. The President and government outpost is even assaulted. The Cooper's find themselves up against new armed attackers in the form of old acquaintances. Things are very dark.
This storyline is gripping. I can't read fast enough. Can't wait for the next book. Everyone seems so real and Mike makes it feel like you are in the story!
Great series, the family has had quite a few trials in this series. Shows the bad not to mess with a mother’s children! Odds are against the Coopers. Great books
This was a good book. I find Alice’s success a little improbable, but give her props for gumption. I hope James gets home soon as his parents need the help.
This one was the best one yet! I can’t wait til the last one comes out. Alice and the kids were just awesome! I can’t wait to see how Ryan handles Red. Hopefully James will make it home sooner rather than later!
The book wasn’t bad, but the story occasionally felt like an extended analogy: every member of the family is basically a John McClane from Die Hard. All 4 books we have three separate “John McClane” groups: the mother with the children, the father, and the mother’s parents. Each group have their own Die Hard–style adventure. Each group is portrayed as the ultimate survivor: unbreakable, endlessly capable, and fundamentally good. Also they still alive in situations when anyone on this planet will be 100% died. They keep trusting others even when they’re betrayed again and again, which started to feel a bit repetitive to me. I’m still unsure whether I’ll continue with the next books in the series, but overall it was an interesting story and I’m glad I read it.
