Books with a Cuppa (5 stars)
This book comes at you guns blazing. It was punchy and pacey and I relished Catherine’s writing. Her characterisation is incredibly skilled; I felt like I had known Ziggy and his team (who are very likeable, by the way) for years. If you like a pacey serial killer thriller with a skilfully detailed police procedural plot, then this is the one for you! Of course, I couldn’t not mention the ending. Be prepared, is all I will say. Not many books bolt me out of my seat, but if the third book could be available, say yesterday, that would be just fab Catherine.

Book review-aholic (5 stars)
This is one of them books that keeps you gripped onto every word, every sentence, every page! Oh I loved Catherine's writing style , the way she describes everything and everyone in the book paints a clear picture in the readers mind.

Quirky Book Reads (5 stars)
a compelling read packed with intrigue and tension. I was completely thrown by the identity of the killer until it was revealed….

All I can say is, wow. WOW.
Honestly, the cover gives me chills, so I knew I had to read this. The words on the inside, though…the writing is phenomenal! The Web They Wove by Catherine Yaffe is gritty, intense, and unique.

Felicia (5 stars)
Deftly written, this read is written in multiple POVS, including the killer’s, who could not only be the poster child for mental illness but is just plain evil. I enjoyed the satisfying ending until I was gobsmacked by the lead-in to book three. Are you kidding me? I need that book now! HA!

Wow what a read!!! I loved this even more than her previous book.. if that’s at all possible.
If your looking for a well written crime thriller then I highly recommend this gem. Now after that ending I’m really hoping we don’t have to wait too long for more.

This book was full of twists and turns that kept me captivated and rarely did I find myself passing up my reading time for this book.
The author put enough elements in the book to never have a dull moment, but not so many that it was choppy. It read really well and my favorite thing about the book was how Catherine utilized different POVs and timelines.
Would recommend this to anyone who enjoys police dramas both on TV and in books.

I'm a little sad that I've only just discovered this series - this is book 3 in the DI 'Ziggy' Thornes Crime Thriller series - and the only one I've read ...so far!

This story gripped me instantly. I could tell straight away from the style of writing and way this was presented to us that I was going to love this series and this plot.

It took me slightly longer to get to grips with Ziggy, purely because I knew that he'd have been developed over the 3 books and there were certainly some personality traits that I should have been aware of.

I could, however, still tell that this was going to be a character that I'd love! I love a 'dirty' cop - actually dirty is maybe the wrong term, maybe I'm better using morally grey cop. One who isn't scared to push the boundaries of what's acceptable 'up above'. A bit like Luther or Cracker ....my favourite kind of cop!

This plot was fast-paced and did grab you in theoughout. Making it personal - the murder of Ziggy's friend - and the tension of him not being allowed to investigate officially. But I think this also added a rather emotive element too, made Ziggy more human and relatable because emotions were running high and these well written sections made us feel this too.

I loved this and will definitely be going back to add the first two books to my wishlist for the near future. One to also watch out for book 4 ?

This is Book 3 in "D.I. 'Ziggy' Thornes Crime Thriller Boxset"
Ziggy is devastated by the death of his best friend Lolly, and what's to know who and why did this. He will stop at nothing to find out. But there is one problem, he is taken off the investigation because it's to close to home. D.S. Sadie Bates has been given the case, while Ziggy is told to look into money laundering gang. Ziggy's son and reporter Chrystal Mack are threatened. Ziggy starts doing his own investigation calling in some favours.
We also get a look at Ziggy and best friend Lolly, how they became best friends and their foster family. There are some twists that I didn't expected and I loved the ending. What's next for Ziggy?

This series was not read in sequence.
THE LIE SHE TOLD, #1 - My third book by this author and I like it. I enjoyed the writing style, the characters, and the intriguing story lines. The fingerprints discovery did make me shake my head in disbelief. This story did not involve Ziggy or any police until the very last few chapters. Source: My Bookfunnel library. 4*

THE WEB THEY WOVE, #2 - My second read book of this series. The story seemed to be written by novice in police procedures. The boss is always telling the coworkers what needs to be done instead of having their actions written into the story. It makes the police look dumb or the boss egotistical. The dialog did not feel right in many places. It got to a point I skipped to the last three chapters after reading the first forty pages. No improvement. Source: My Bookfunnel library. 3*

WHEN WE DECEIVE, #3 - I'm surprised that this book was interesting and a one-sitting read. I'm a bit tired of books that overdo the mental and low self-esteem; it definitely seems like filler in this book. Source: My Bookfunnel library. 4*

CATCH ME TWICE, #4 - I missed the first three books of this series but it did not matter. The few slight references to the past were not actually needed. I throughly enjoyed the writing style, the dialog and the characters. The pace is steady and the story lines, set between 1989 and 2002, are interesting. It is an easy one-sitting read, which I enjoyed after just finishing a 560-page Clancy novel. Source: The author and my BookFunnel library. 4*

THE SHADOW KILLER, #5 - How disappointing. This is a silly story. The actions of the police, the forensic psychologist, and the questionings are all silly. After reading all the books in this series, I find that are only only two prominent characters, Ziggy and one support character, along with the criminal. There is no growth in any of the characters, Ziggy or his crew. Ziggy follows the same pattern: tired with no sleep, emotional and half cocked in his investigations. Of course, everyone has mental problems or lack of self esteem or some reason for their silly behavior. All are easily thrown by the criminals where tears or fear or rage are the norm. This story was not interesting but macabre. My interest in reading more by this author is terminated. This book is so bad, yet some of the previous books were good. Source: The author. 1*

I’m a sucker for a good DI story and I have completely fallen for the DI Ziggy perspective. Ziggy is interesting, strong and determined to save and protect those he loves, even once they’ve gone to their grave.
The story is interesting and exciting, with twists and details that will keep you guessing and completely hooked.
I loved the characters, especially Ziggy. Each was given personality and lots of detail, to make them relatable and very real. This made it so easy to connect with the story and really immerse myself in it. I enjoyed the feeling that I was there, trying to link the two and finding myself in the dangers Ziggy was in.
Overall and excellent book. I’ll be ready more from Catherine.

When We Deceive was the first novel I’ve read from Cat Yaffe, but it will not be my last! The story was full of twists and turns that left me guessing until the end. DI Ziggy Thornes is “unofficially” investigating his best friend’s, Dr Leila “Lolly Turner’s murder and encounters quite a few problems along the way. And oh my!, that cliffhanger! I can’t wait to read the next instalment to see what happens next!
