OMG that epilogue 😭😭 make sure you’ve got tissues to hand. I didn’t expect that ending.
Irina is a healer to the Kings. Lev is the King.
Magic & fantasy with some spice all piled into this one book.
Lev is very protective & jealous. Enemies to Lovers.
You will hate start hating certain characters then fall in love with them ❤️❤️
Another fantastic read

The idea for the plot was so interesting, but it wasn’t well executed. The dialogue was SO repetitive. They repeated conversation after conversation. It’s a shame, because the premise is really cool.

I really enjoyed reading this book; it's a standalone, and it's not long (300+ pages). The premise is entertaining and new; it follows a healer who is obligated by magic to serve her king. It's an enemies-to-lovers, forced proximity story. Be prepared for the epilogue, don't get me wrong, it's not a bad epilogue, it's just that my heart could've lived without it.

I loved this fantasy romance and the fact it’s a stand alone read, it’s got somany enjoyable elements intrigue, murder, politics and an enemies to lovers trope. I loved the characters and their relationships, they felt really three dimensional, the story is interesting and has depth and intrigue. I can definitely say I enjoyed this and recommend it to lovers of Romantasy.

DNF @ 11% 8/29/24 - Not for me, unfortunately. Was intrigued by the premise and even some of the story I read. But the writing felt juvenile and clunky, especially the dialogue.

"We are made of those we love, and they exist long after we are gone in the way we love others."

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐ / 5
Spice: 🌶️🌶️ / 5

Let me preface this by saying that my rating is for the last 2/3 of the book. The first 1/3 was... not great. I strongly considered DNFing several times within the first few chapters, but ultimately, I'm really glad I pushed through.

There are numerous grammatical and spelling errors throughout the book, which I fully admit is a pet peeve of mine, but the biggest issues I had with the first 1/3 are the following:

- So little world building, that some things were confusing. Would have been super beneficial to have even a few more facts at the beginning.
- The writing style came across as very juvenile; however, this improved as the book progressed. It almost seemed as though the last 2/3 of the book were written by someone else.
- The MC, Irina, came across as brash, naive and immature. I did not find her to be particularly likable or relatable.
- Some plot points weren't fully explained, and the explanations that were given were provided too quickly, without enough context.
- The first few chapters seemed incredibly rushed, as though they needed to be gotten out of the way with before the rest of the narrative could progress. However, these first chapters laid the foundation for the entire book, so if they had been fleshed out more and given the details and time that they deserved, it would have completely changed my first impression and caught my interest, as I actually thought the premise was intriguing.

All that being said, the last 2/3 of the book I enjoyed. Once the story had been set up and gotten underway, it held my attention. Irina's character became more interesting and relatable, and the cast of characters who were introduced were enjoyable and intriguing (particularly Sasha, Ivan, Ilia, Andrei and Anya).

I especially liked how conflicted Lev was, torn between duty & loyalty to his people and the actions he was forced to take in order to honor that duty. Definitely made him an interesting, sympathetic character, as I could understand both his POV and Irina's.

"We don't have to live like the ones before us did. We can make our own stories."

This was a true, enemies to lovers standalone novel that took an honest look at grief and love, and how they don't always make sense. Not everything is black and white, and sometimes, peace and true happiness can only be found by embracing the grey.

I received a free ARC in exchange for an honest and voluntary review.

Good did a wonderful job hooking me into the story right away. It’s a fast read with no cliff hanger but it has a tear jerker epilogue, but really sweet. Irina is a strong women who overcomes heartache and grief. Finds friendship and learns to forgive. Definitely a true enemies to lover romance. Loved this story. So happy to have come across J.A. Good. Will definitely be reading more from her.

The best standalone I've ever read! I absolutely love the simplicity of the worldbuilding in Good's books. They are so easy to understand and never overly complicated like some other fictional worlds. I love how the enemies to lovers romance started off in different way and how it ended up being so raw and believable.
That epilogue had me in literal tears. It was only a few pages, but I haven't cried reading a book in ages.

That epilogue 😭
I really enjoyed this book, I couldn’t put it down and I was able to finish it all in one day.
This book is full of interesting characters, a unique world, an interesting enemies-to-lovers romance and a unique fated bond.
I don’t cry very often while reading books, but this one had me sobbing multiple times.
Overall, just a really good standalone.
Highly recommend.

I’ve been fortunate enough to be on the ARC team for JA Good for multiple books and I’m so happy I am! They’re ALL amazing, but I think Thread of Fate is my favorite so far. You will feel every emotion over and over again. Irina is a strong, intelligent, capable woman and you can’t help but root for her through her whole journey! 10/10

I really wanted to like this more but came away just lukewarm. The premise was intriguing but I think just somehow the delivery fell short.

Firstly I was surprised by how much the first few chapters made me care about but perhaps it did too good of a job?

Lev as as the mmc was tortured and developed ok enough for me to really want to buy in as a love interest. But... I couldn't get sold on him and Irina together. It never quite felt real that they could like each other. There wasn't enough instances that made it happen and then suddenly it just was.

What was a clear fault is how jarring the writing can be. I'll be reading and suddenly trip over these sentences that are convoluted and don't make sense. I'm then forced out of the story to pause and try and figure out what the author is actually trying to say. This happened often enough to be a bother unfortunately.

Things I did like:
- there were specific passages that were written well in regards to dealing and living with grief I appreciated
- the world building especially the power structure
- again... how promising the concept for this novel seemed

A Thread of Fate is an incredible journey into the stages of grief, and how one young woman learns to cope with her new life after she comes into her Healer powers for a man who becomes king through bloodshed. When the castle is stormed and her life as she knew it is ripped away, Irina must learn how to deal with the situations thrown at her as she realizes her whole life might have been a lie. Being from a long line of Healers to the king, she tries to fight her new connection to this new false king, but what do you do when the man who took everything from you starts to change your viewpoint on the world and bring you happiness?

I loved the world building in this story and I could really visualize all of the different places they visited throughout. What really captivated me was how Irina’s open and raw emotions flooded through the pages. Everyone has had to deal with loss sometime in their life, and I could feel her grief and confusion throughout the whole story. It is also now one of my favorite Enemies to Lovers. Nothing was rushed and I feel like J.A. Good put so much detail into Irina and Lev’s whole relationship from start to finish that it was almost palpable! The conclusion to the story leaves you completely satiated, with no unanswered questions… and the epilogue will leave you feeling the love that Irina develops throughout the book.

I am so thankful that I was able to be an ARC reader for A Thread of Fate. It was infuriating and gut retching and I loved every second of it! I can’t wait to read more of her books!

The first chapter in, and I wasn't sure if I was in the mood to read the book - it seemed to be going in a friends-to-lovers situation, but that didn't make sense to the book's blurb. But then...ugh, okay...I don't know how to feel. I mean, I DO know what I felt. I feel like I have whiplash, I both hated and loved this. Spoiler below.

I understand Lev's battle to fix the kingdom and the unfairness of the Angeloff line. I understand that deaths had to occur, or we wouldn't have the enemy-to-lovers trope or even many of the feelings we were given. HOWEVER, I -still- don't see the point of Alexi dying other than to be a sole point of pushing the enemy-to-lovers. Hedeon? Well, yeah, he's the king and the problem. Faye, the healer/mother, her character would have definitely died trying to protect the king. But, again, even Lev stated that Alexi knew what was going on - but, Alexi couldn't have done anything to change it. And he wasn't given the chance to do so. He wasn't even questioned about if he thought it was wrong and would be a better king. It was just...he has to die. By that logic, Dmitri should have also been on the chopping block, being the son of Hedeon and Alexi's dad.

So, four stars because I fully believe Alexi did not -have- to die (other than pushing Lev into villain territory). Which, I mean...Alexi would have had to arrest Lev for killing Hedeon. Ugh. Something without Alexi/Lev dying.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

“We are made of those we love, and they exist long after we are gone in the way we love others.”

I enjoyed the Forged in Fire series by the author, but this blows it away. I was immediately sucked in by the story and could not put it down.

The king is chosen by the Gods from one of the ruling families of Anadyr. Irina comes from a line of healers who are magically bound to the king. Her mother serves the current king and is training to eventually take her place upon her death. When the kingdom is attacked and Irina is bound to the usurper, forced to heal him of all injuries by the Gods who gave her her power.

This is an enemies to lovers fantasy with a fated bond that works in a completely different way than a mate bond. The characters are intriguing, the parts of the world we got to explore were unique, and Irina is very much a strong fmc who literally starts a rebellion in a day while grieving her losses, navigating her duty, dealing with the chaos of her emotions and the fact the people she loved most might not be who she thought they were. The book also deals with loss and grief and the emotional turmoil that surrounds every day life and being bound to the person responsible for your pain.

4.5/5 ⭐️

A thread of fate by J.A. Good was such an amazing read. The writing was amazing and I loved seeing the story from Irina’s eyes and see her grow as a person. The enemies to lovers was so amazingly done that it made me feel that they were not a good couple and the next moment I thought they were made for each other. The healer aspect of the story was amazing and seeing Irina fight her duty and feelings for her morals and beliefs made the story that much more amazing. I really liked the characters, every single one was crucial to the story in one way or another and I loved how they found each other. The only reason this isn’t a 5⭐️ is because sometimes I felt like I could connect to the characters and it made me kind of numb to what they were facing. I loved the characters but I didn’t feel for them until the end of the book when it changed. Still this book was so good and the world building was so amazing that I honestly wish I could live in this world. See the five regions and meet the people in each one of them. Be able to experience their cultures and be able to participate, it just was a world that I will continue to think about over and over again.

Overall this is just a very good standalone book and I felt like the ending was perfect in a way because it all came full circle. Honestly I would 100% recommend this book and can’t wait to read more from this author.

Lord of the Hollow Court: Fade to Black Edition by Dana Fraedrich is a book that I thoroughly enjoyed. From the moment I started reading, I was hooked and couldn't put it down until I finished it in one day. The book is filled with captivating characters, a unique world, an enemies-to-lovers romance, and a distinct fated bond that will leave readers wanting more.

The characters in the book are well-crafted and interesting, with a mix of both strong and vulnerable traits that make them relatable. The world-building is immersive, and the fae world is enchanting and unique. The enemies-to-lovers romance between Braam and Katty adds a layer of complexity to the story that keeps readers on the edge of their seats. Their fated bond adds another layer of intrigue and depth to the story, making it all the more captivating.

What sets this book apart is its ability to evoke strong emotions in readers. I found myself sobbing multiple times while reading, which is a testament to Fraedrich's ability to create characters and situations that readers can empathize with.

Overall, Lord of the Hollow Court: Fade to Black Edition is a fantastic standalone book that I highly recommend to fans of the fantasy and romance genres. Fraedrich's writing style is engaging and immersive, and the story is full of twists and turns that will keep readers engaged until the very end.

This is my first review I’ve ever posted about a book. I usually just write in my journal, have been doing that since I was a kid, but I wanted to write a short, spoiler free review today! Lol

This is my first experience with this author and I was pleasantly surprised. I was on an emotional roller coaster battling between my own experiences with grief and the relationship between the FMC and MMC. The plot was simple but that didn’t take away from characters or the message it portrayed.

I gave it a 4 out of 5 because some of the dialogue felt really repetitive. I understand that grief comes and goes in waves. I have been on that wave for years now. But everyone seemed to repeat themselves, regardless of the situation. I also wasn’t sure how the love interest connection came about. I understand the bond and having feelings, but it seemed a little artificial. Other than that, I enjoyed this book and hope the epilogue turns into an additional book sometime in the future!

Nursing... but let's make it fantasy!

Gosh I loved this book. Irina is such an amazing and strong young woman, but she is also flawed and damaged. I loved how real these characters were and how the nursing profession was accurately represented in fantasy.

Also, I wanted so bad to hate Lev in the beginning but I couldn't. Even if he was cold and stoic, I just think authors have ruined it for me as well because give me a cold, handsome man and I'm putty. Also, can we just talk about the spice?? JA Good has ramped up the spice in this one from her previous series and I AM HERE FOR IT.

I definitely recommend this one when it releases!! Such a great read I finished it within 24 hours.

I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review. :) thank you JA Good, for letting me into this world.

5 Complex kisses! This book from the moment I opened it, captured me, and Irina's spirit, her complexity, was astounding to read, and at times it felt as if I was her, going through her problems. Losing her mother, and her best friend, the people she loved most, must have been hard on her, and to have to work with the man who helped, and had them killed, it just blows my mind. Yet they are bound together by King and Royal Healer and they cannot run from each other. Yet is there another side to Lev? Is he the brutal monster that she believes him to be, or is there are reason for all the madness, and truth to the words he speaks? I am so glad that there was a happy, well a realistic ending, and that love can come from pain, and there are rainbows after these horrible storms of life.

A story about a girl who falls in love with the guy who killed her best friend and her mother.
Although at times it's not very realistic you can see how Irina tries very hard to stick to her morals and principles.
At times she feels like she's too forgiving especially with the spy scene.
However some of the scene descriptions are beautiful, you made me feel as if I was actually there
It's also a shame that you wrapped up the whole story as I'd quite like to read about what happens to the lives of the supporting characters.

Looking forward to the sequel though.

This stand alone fantasy romance has quite a few elements that are so enjoyable: political intrigue, murder, enemies to lovers, magic, healing, great character development. You can really feel and understand the emotions the characters are experiencing in this book.

The plot has great depth, there are some well written spice scenes and you are definitely submerged into the world this is all taking place in.

I definitely enjoyed this book immensely and recommend to anyone who loves a good fantasy romance. My only complaint is the book is over, and there won’t be any more. But now I can go read the rest of the author’s work.

It was way too fast paced and I feel like Irina’s change in emotions flipped too fast. There wasn’t enough time to develop the characters and their emotions. A good portion I was like “why does Lev even like her besides the fact that she’s beautiful”? And like out of nowhere when they find out who betrayed them they were all like “ugh stupid Daniil” as if we are supposed to know who that is?? The story was entertaining which is why it has three stars instead of two, but like damn, was badly written. I think if the story was less condensed and the characters better fleshed out it would have been so much better.

I loved this book! I could not put it down until I finished the whole thing! I was not expecting the plot twist at the very beginning and it tore my heart out. The enemies to lovers, sweet romance had plenty of action and conflict. There were some spicy scenes all packed into the end of the book, defintely a slow burn. Something felt off about the romance but I can't quite put my finger on it. The exploration of grief and the evolution of grief portrayed in the book were excellent though. I would highly recommend it as an example of a healthy grief process.
