This was actually a reread for me. I had read this book, when I was a new pipe smoker in the mid nineteen sixties. Then again thirty years later, having acquired another copy for my library. Written in France, in the early 1950's, this book, especially in the later chapters has become less than accurate. There have also been a few improvements in the equipment and processes which make things easier now. However, this is one of several books which provide an excellent historical perspective on pipe smoking. Ardent pipe smokers will want to have a copy of this among the other pipe smoking books on their shelves.

Beautifully written book and wonderful illustrations. A bit of unnecessary wording but I didn't mind it. Perfect source for pipe smokers or those who would like to learn about pipe smoking.
