So perfectly encapsulates the sodding griminess of provincial England in the drear seventies. McGough's drink problem makes this romp all the more entertaining. Not as complex as Larkin, but so much more fun.

3.5 stars rounded down

Random book I found on the shelf of my house so decided to read it.

Very humourous but also quite a lot weird. He looks Amish but writes from a drunken barlord perspective so I'm not sure that fits.

Part 1 depicts his drunken, travelling sexuality, then Part 2 depicts his burden of getting on with his life, making it have meaning, and of his sexuality becoming a burden.

3.5 out of 5 stars. Not my favourite of McGoughs work but still really enjoyed this relatively short collection!

Great for airplane, beach, etc. Short revealing views into the lives surrounding us.

Amusing in parts, mainly the first section, which looks at life on tour. The poetry itself isn't fantastic.
